    Wow AF Day plus

Well I joined here on Monday, had 2 drinks Tuesday which I had allowed myself before I went out, have had nothing to drink since 9pm Tuesday. I am going out to watch the rugby on Friday night and am hoping not to drink until then... This is going to be my first test as I usually have a couple and then the booze takes over and its one after another until I stagger home wishing I hadnt drunk so much. When I was drinking daily I just didnt really care, but today after my AF day I felt very frightened that it was going to be so easy to slip back into my old ways especially having just started out. I hope I can moderate for ever but its so scary. Thanks for listening.

    John,
CONGRATULATIONS on day 1! :goodjob: And now the fact is you KNOW you CAN do this! Yes it can be difficult, but again, YOU CAN do this! Thanks so much for posting your success!
I can really understand the "fear factor" I have had to face that many times since I started to have AF days. But it does get easier!
    Again, Congratulations!

      Hi John.

You sound a lot like me when I first started to tackle my own drinking problems/issues. You are heading in the right direction. I also know how encouraging it is when you see replies to your posts. Keep up the good work. It's very difficult at first then as you move forward you might find that you rack up a few days, have a drink rack up a few more a/f days, etc. What happened to me was that I kept getting more pissed off going back to day 1.

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

      Mike

Hi John- what an encouraging post. Moderation is a scary thought for me, too.

For some things in life, there are concise beginnings, middles, and ends.... unfortunately, there isn't a magical Turkey Tom thermometer that pops out of my head when I've drank to my capacity, so it's hard to know when I should stop drinking, you know?

(I hope you have the Turkey Tom thermometers over in the UK :farmer: :H)

Good luck tomorrow, and Happy Friday! Take care,

          Hey, John. Welcome.

So many of us here know exactly what you're talking about. When I started, I just wanted to cut back. Then I was told that I should reach 30 days AF before I decided to mod. Excellant advise by the way. The theory is you have a much clearer head for making such an important decision. When I hit my day 30, I still didn't think I was strong enough to try and mod. Just really bothered me that I would have to start over if I slipped too much. So I've been AF ever since.

Don't get me wrong. There are many here you mod successfully. Maybe I could as well, it's just not my choice at this time. So you really have to find what will work for you. Just consider going 30 days AF first (it might really help). It's work, but it's also very attainable.

          Best of luck to you.

          Love, Me
