Well, the DUI may not be so bad after all

It's a 3 day class, since I have no criminal record. It's $200. I have the money. Next, I will serve a three day house-arrest. Again, better than jail, and will cost me $250. I've got that money too. SR22 insurance, surprisingly, is not a heck of a lot more than regular insurance. I can afford that too. I found a reasonably priced place. I get to drive again on May 16th. I do have to pay the court system a $1500 fine, which is steep, but they accept payments. THANK GOD. So, all in all, it could be worse, and I'll be allright in the end. It's my first one. I'm going to be ok.

Keep me in your prayers for sure. Thank you all so much for your advice and support!

    Jamie

      Hi Jamie,

Glad to hear it worked out as well as it did!! Your right, I do believe it could have been worse. I heve a friend who got slammed her first time around with a year of classes, driving restrictions, random testing, fines up the @#$, etc.....I am happy it worked out for the way it did!!

Hey, how is it going with the program? I hope you are still doing as well as you were!!

I'm just thrilled for you Jamie! It's great that you can afford the fines, insurance and all for your DUI. It's enough to "sober you up", but not to much to bear! I'm glad for you. I've been lucky not to have gotten a DUI, although there are certainly times I should have! I did have DUI dreams though, and they were scary enough!

Good luck with your continued progress!

        Take care!

Jamie, I'm so glad to here from you, & things worked out like they did! You are sooo lucky! I had no criminal record, except a speeding ticket in 1977! I had to take classes for 1 yr, that ended up costing around 3 or 4 grand, $1ooo court fee, 100hrs community svc, victoms impact panel, sr22insurance, a breathalizer in my truck for 1 yr @ a cost of $50 a mo, & the nearest place to have it calibrated was a 3 hr drive...each way! And I had to do that every other month. I also had to blow into my truck every time I started it-Even if I ate spicey food, like garlic or salsa, it wouldnt start- sometimes it just wouldnt start...for no reason...it would give me a "failed" breath test report, when I'd had nothing & only gone from my home to the store! Lots of fun...I sure miss that!! Also every time it fails, it (supposedly sends a computer printout directly to the courts!) So I was told- not sure, but didn't want to find out. Oh yeah I was on probation for 24 months! I think you can get off easier w/ murder in this day & age! Anyway, glad you got off easy !
I'm very thankful I wasn't in an accident...you too. That would definately be the hardest... especially if someone else got hurt. Take care, Hugs, Judie

Oh yeah that was all after going to court 3 times for the same incident...then having DMV & my insurance thinking I'd had 3 DUI's... Just so much fun!! Needless to say... I'm very very careful these days!

I think the reason mine is not going to be such a terrible nightmare is because I hired an attorney. She was expensive, but worth it.

Oh and I also wanted to add I am thankful I did not kill anyone or myself or my brother who was in the car with me. I just wanted to say I am lucky for that and I am thankful every day that did not happen.
