    Newcommer - Detox day 1

    Hi Everyone,

    :new:

This is my first day on this site.

Why am I here? Wine or rather not to wine - definitely not to whine!

Not only my first day here, but my first day of a home detox.

My god I am _so_ glad that I stabbed to death two wine-boxes this morning. At least a dozen times I've walked to the shelf where they used to live and only realized what I was doing when I got there and they weren't :eeks:

I've been given Chlordiazepoxide 30mg 4 times a day (for day 1) and about to take my third dose. Certainly it seem to be controlling the shakes, but not doing much for the anxiety side of things, nor making me noticeably drowsy.

I've been reading up a bit on the web and it's described as a "long acting benzodiazepine drug" and having "a half life of 36 hours upwards" - Does this mean that I can expect some further cumulative effect from the next doses?

    One Day at a Time.

Hi Mike -- good for you, are you working with a counselor or going alone. Whatever, it is great to believe that sobriety can be ahead and get us all out of this hell we are in. I am on day 4 (this time) and love this site. The thread of ODAT (one day at a time) is a great one to check in on every day. Bessie who lives in the UK usually gives a morning hello, and then if you want your can chime in. I find it great especially because no one on the ODAT is too far from their last drink and therefore knows exactly what you are going through. Good luck and God Bless and let us know how you are doing soon, as many times a day as you might feel like it. We are all interested in you and your progress, you can be sure!

      Welcome Mike!!! :welcome:

You came to the right place, this is a great forum. I am a newbie also, this is day 16 AF for me and I could not have done it without staying connected to these threads.

I do not know about Chlodiazepoxide, what I am doing is: reading the book, taking all of the natural supplements and vitamins (No Tropo) and also listening to the CD?s daily. The combo of this seems to keep me on track. Not to say that some days the urge is pretty strong, but it is a learning experience and since I have been use to having wine in my life everyday for the last 15 years it is going to take some time.

You are on the right track and we are all hear to cheer you on your new journey!

      Best, Saje :h

Mike, I am not familiar with any of the meds but I want to say welcome.

I am sure some other members can jump on here for give you more advise. Or there is entire thread dedicated just for meds and you can read through that. Hopefully you will find some answers there.

Ok...did you really stab two boxes of wine??? Boy, that sounds so thereputic!!! Good for you!

Best of luck on your journey. We are here for you.

          Love, Me

            Pharmacy: Medication Half Life

I could try to explain what 1/2 life of a medication means, but this should explain it better than I could.

Sounds fun stabbing wine. I think you will find plenty here to keep you busy while you're going through this.

                      Mike,

:welcome: Good on you for stabbing the beast with your "steely knives." but this time let's kill the beast!!

The meds don't necessarily get rid of the anxiety but they do keep you from seizing. Do you have roughly 4 days or so worth? Keep taking them as prescribed. The doc wouldn't have given them to you unless he/she felt you needed them.

                      HSJMOMMY,

Night sweats. Yep. I had them through two weeks, actually.

After 40+ days, I finally realized I also have hot flashes. Double whammy!! However, I can deal with the hot flashes because I do not have the shakes that go with the alcohol sweats. Yay!

Keep up the good work everyone. Everyday you go AF makes the next day a little bit easier...

                      Love,
                      Cindi

                          Matt,

I thought things were hopeless for me too...until I found this site...a virtual support group.
I feel better with each AF day. A lot better. I cannot emphasize how much easier for me to head for AL free by reading posts here. I think a lot of us here want to fit in with people who can drink in moderation but most of us can't. It is just the way we are. The how and why is not important. It is not a character defect.

                            Live Chat

Have you tried the live chat room at night -- it gets quite zany and is full of fun, sometimes outrageous. I think I already mentioned the ODAT thread that bessie starts every day. lots of us who can never be sure we are five minutes away from our last or next drink compare notes every morning. It is very honest, with our leader Bessie even saying that she had a drink the night before. I am on day 5 shooting for day forever. thanks for the luck,
