    I've decided to quit drinking.....

only I feel like I need a miracle to do this. I'm 39 years old, single mom of 3 teens. I hold a full time job and just quit a second job I had on the weekends. I've been drinking for close to 14 years. It started out as just a weekend thing, but over the years has increased to a daily thing. It became heavier during the divorce. That was absolutely painful, having to see the ex at the courthouse with his new girlfriend.

My drinking is usually done in the evening to help me cruise with what needs to be done around the house to prepare dinner, and things for the next day (laundry, dishes, an occassional crock pot roast). Drinking is not helping anymore. I hate myself for being the boozy mom that I am.

My goal is to taper off and eventually become a non drinker. If i could keep myself occupied and not fall into the bottle when I got bored or lonely that would be awesome.

I've been looking for alternative methods for alcohol cessation and thank God I found this site!

I'll be here everyday so that I can begin this healing process. I would really love to talk to some of you... all of you! I need the support.

thanks so much for reading! :new:

        I've decided to quit drinking.....

        Hi!

You sound like me (well like alot of us). I was a drinker before my divorce, but became much heavier during and after...doing the single mom with two little ones. Drinking continued into my next marriage (hubby does not drink much at all) and finally knew I had to do something about it.

You will love it here. Read alot...check out the book and suggestions given, and post often.

Look forward to getting to know you.

        Love,

          I've decided to quit drinking.....

Hi SuperBernie, welcome aboard! When I arrived here last September, I thought the same as you do now. I thought, nothing short of a miracale could make me sober. I also came with the goal of wanting to successfully moderate my drinking. Well, now I am four months without a drop of alcohol, feeling stronger and better with each new day.....and as for moderating my drinking, I no longer have the desire to even try it! I have done this, as many, many others have, using the guidelines in the MWO book. I chose the no drug method, and it worked!

So, I wish you much luck on your journey!

            I've decided to quit drinking.....

Hello superbernie and welcome...this place is addictive but in a good way.You will find help here..sometimes I just come and read.
You and I share the same situation...I have had a drinking problem for a long time went through a divorce that was real hard for me and my 2 teenage boys started drinking more and more. Then my 17 yr old son shot and killed one of his friends while playing around with a gun and is doing time for that.....that destroyed my world and I'm still not over it and wont be over it until he gets out...he got 10 yrs, but lawyer say's he will only have to do 2.5...he's been in almost 5 yrs now..goes back up for parroll the 8th of this month and God I pray he gets out...don't you know I blame mysellf for this because had I not been drinking so much none of this would have happened probably..ya know what I mean??? the divorce, the bad teenager etc. etc. etc.
Hang in there, hang in here..this place has helped me a lot so far.
Sorry to babble on and on...I'm signing out for the day...I don't have a puter at home so I'm only on while at work...off tomorrow back Saturday.
            Have a great evening.

              Hi SuperBernie,

Wecome to the site. You will find that there is a lot of support here for you when you participate in the threads. I think you get the advice of getting the book, supps, cd's etc.

One thing that I think you should spend some time evaluating is the decision to go AF or Mod. In my experience, and in many posts I have read here, starting out in a Mod mode really doesn't work for most people. I would do some research on this site and read some posts about going AF for 30 days and then Mod'ing it.

Good luck...you have everyones support here!

                I've decided to quit drinking.....

:welcome:I am new here as well. I found this site about a week ago, and I log in daily. Its good to read the posts of everyone. It seems to be a pretty cool group. Everyone is encouraging. I have ordered the supplements, and I've been taking them for about 3 days. I think they might be working. If nothing else, increased energy from all the vitamins. I am a married mom of a three yr old. 2 step sons 19 and 16. I am a binger more or less. I can go a week or so... then LOOK OUT!!! I'm going to try the moderate thing and see how it goes. Just tired of feeling like a crappy mom when I cant remember putting my 3 yr old to bed. Ugh. What a loser! Good luck and talk to ya soon!!! Sweet

                  Super--
I want to welcome you and have to comment on your post. I too would drink as I did the necessary chores in the evening. Supper, dishes, any yard or garden work. It (and the ciggies) seemed to give me more energy. It did, I recently read on alcoholism and other addictions link, that those things do give us energy. I'm finding now I might not get as much done in the evenings, but I make up for it the next day when I'm NOT hungover!

SuperBernie ~ Welcome! I haven't much more to add to what has already been said. A lot of good advise.

You can download the book from the Health Store link at the top of the page. It's a quick read.

Best of luck to you. We are here for you.

Super, welcome and best of luck to you. You have all the resources you need right at the tip of your fingers.
I know what it's like to be at home and have to make the decision as to whether I will pour that glass of wine or do something else. It's tough but not impossible to start reducing what you drink. Start later in the day, eat and drink water.
                      Best of luck to you!!!

                          I'm there too...

                          Hi SuperBernie,

Go girl on your decision to quit! I have finally admitted to myself and one of my friends that I am an alcoholic. That was the first hurdle. The next hurdle was to make the decision to quit, which I have. Thank God I found this site! Like you I started out light and gradually it has gotten heavier and heavier. Have you ordered the program? I ordered mine the other day. Hope to get it soon and get started right away!

Hi folks, I'm new here, just found the site a few minutes ago, and not sure how to navigate around in here (just yet). This is my first day (again).
I look forward to sharing info with you all. Most all of my friends drink, so when I try to stop or don't drink at a get together, well you can imagine the reactions.
Will talk to you all soon!!
