Day 6- when will this throbbing headache stop?

After a terrible drinking evening, making a complete fool of myself and the worst hangover ever I decided this was it Im done. Little did I know I would have a screaming headache for 6 days. I am going through aspirin like candy. Does anyone know how long this may last? I guess Its a good thing in a way because I feel so crappy I don't want to drink. This is the first time in 20 years I have gone this long and I'm really nervous about it. Its friday- my husband is going to be drinking and I don't have much experience in not drinking! I would love any advice Thanks!!

    Hi Molly,

Congratulations on your AF days! You're doing really well. Remember to drink lots of water - the headache could be dehydration. After 20 years of drinking your body is going to take a while to adjust to a new, healthy regime - but it's going to love you for it.

Friday nights are difficult at first. I'm a great believer in wallowing in a hot bath with a good book if the going gets tough. Hang in there!

      Hi Molly,
I feeling slightly better after 2 days binging and ended vomiting for a whole day. Never again. I hate this stupidity.

Hang in there Molly, 6 days is Great! The headache should be going away soon I would think. Have you changed anything other than going AF? Are you taking the supps? Hopefully it is just your body adjusting to the new change.... Stay strong tonight. Get something new and fun for you to drink tonight while you hubby is having his. The grocery stores have all kinds of fun juices and teas out now, you can even mix them to make great compo's to find one that you like and make you feel special like you are splurging too. It helps! That reminds me I should restock myself!

Have a great weekend and keep up the great work!

          Molly,

It will eventually go away. I agree with others in saying to drink a lot of water. Everyone has different side effects but you are doing great AF. Fridays are difficult be stay strong and you will feel so great about yourself tomorrow. Just keep telling yourself "no more". No more remorese, no more guilt, no more hangover, etc. You can do it!

              Molly,

Oh honey, that must have been some hang over. I send you :l's! Have you felt too yuckey to drink coffee? If you are normally a coffee drinker and omit it suddenly, you could be experiencing caffiene withdrawl.

Nice soakey baths are wonderful! When I had headaches, I could usually sense which would help. Hot or cold compresses. Then I would use a heating pad with damp towel or HUGE ice pack with damp towel. I even took them to bed for overnight. Nearly always worked. And, as already mentioned, water, water, water!

I hope you are better soon. 6 Days is amazing! Keep it up!

Have you tried drinking any sports drinks such as gatorade.......after a binge we deplete our bodies of Vits and Minerals, could be one reason, even pedialyte ( sp? taken for nausea and vomiting ) anything that will replenish what you lost.
And if you feel the urge to drink tonight go on "chat". there's tons of people there that will keep you occupied and not drinking.

Day 6- when will this throbbing headache stop?

Hi there Molly - I couldn't believe how long that pounding headache lasted. Way beyond those first few days that some people reported here - aside from a few tummy woes it was my only real *physical* withdrawal symptom and it was a killer. After about a week at least it wasn't constant. And after... 10 days? it had pretty much gone away.

My two cents from someone who was where you are and is now 70+ days AF. Stick with it, you'll be so glad that you waited out the storm - and great job so far!

Molly ~ welcome! Fantastic job on those 6 days! That's awesome.

I can not reiterate enough about the WATER, WATER, WATER. Healthy fluids are so important. You can include herbal teas and fruit juices. Chamomile really helps with anxiety and Sleeptime Tea is fantastic for sleep. Dehydration often causes severe headaches among other things.

I agree with getting yourself some fun things to drink whether hubby has AL or not. Fruit juices really help with the sugar cravings. I like to mix a variety of juices with club soda. Very tasty. And some people here like to drink juice from their favorite wine or cocktail glass. They seem to find that comforting. So experiment. Don't feel left out of anything. Just do your own thing.

I hope you feel better soon. We are here for you.

Day 6- when will this throbbing headache stop?

Molly - I know I am late for the party (this thread) and I do hope you made it through Friday. I to was really worried my first week about Friday & Saturday. While those evening were rough, it does not compare to the positive feelings I felt on Sat and Sun morning. I had actually plled it off. So then the next week was was still worried but not as much. Following week even less and so on. It really does get better and better. I just have to ride out the feelings you have now and look forward to the positive feelings and your general well being the following days. Trust me, it WILL make a difference.

As far as the headaches, I have another thought. Consider this, when I was really going at it, I was drinking three very large Rum/Cokes an evening. So, along with lunch and all, I was putting away a six pack of caffine rich drinks per day. So, when I stopped, some of the sick feelings I had was the lack of caffine. Once I increased my caffine consumption it got better. I then tapered it down to one diet coke a day. Just a thought...

Take care and I do wich you well,
