    Introduction Some Questions. :)

Hi everyone! My name is Lisa and today is day one for me. I went in to see my doctor this morning and he prescribed me Librium (only after trying to get me to check into a treatment facility). I have read the book and plan to order the supplements later this afternoon.
A little about me: I live in VA. and have been married to the love of my life for more than 14 years. We have 3 wonderful boys and I am a SAHM. I don't recall exactly when or why I started drinking but after years of black outs, evenings of making a complete ass out of myself and just abusing my body I decided I had had enough. I went online and began searching for options and found this site. This place is awesome!
I do have some questions, and I am a little scared to start this process.
Has anyone here taken Librium? What should I expect. I am supposed to take 25mg. every 4 hours.
I was a pretty heavy drinker (every night, 12-18 beers for years), how long does the detox process take and what should I expect.
I know these are all questions I should have asked my doctor, but I was just so nervous and full of so many other questions these 2 slipped my mind.
Thanks to all who read/respond. I look forward to a sober life.

    First off welcome!!:welcome:

I don't know about librium, but that it is supposed to help w/ withdrawal, that is what they sometimes give to people in detox centers......................so you should detox pretty easily then..............I have done without, and it takes about 4 or so days to feel 1/2 way normal..by then the real world hits you.................keep close here and post and read, others are going through the same things you will be, so we are all in this together!:l

    love you,:l:h

Ask as many questions as possible, we will always be here for you.

      Introduction Some Questions.

Hi Lisa and Welcome! Congratulations on your firm decision to gain sobriety! Detoxing can take differing amounts of time with any number of symtoms. It depends a lot on ones general physical health, age, and how much and for how long alcohol was consumed. As for the dosage of librium, if you have questions regarding that, you should give your Dr's office a call, as dosages are based on the idividual.

When I was first getting sober, I did quite a bit of research on the Liver and it's functions. It was facinating. The liver affects every other organ in our bodies, including the brain. Therefore it affects emotion. This is why we get agitated, depressed, suffer anxiety etc while detoxing. Fortunately this all passes fairly quickly. Remember to drink plenty of water, herbal teas can help as well as cranberry juice etc. Next week at this time, you will feel better than you have in a long, long while!!

Stay close, and enjoy the support of everyone here, you are not alone!
      Best Wishes,

Welcome here! Can't help much with the librium - all I know is that it is frequently prescribed for detoxing and has a calming effect. There are lots of people on here that have used it and they should be able to give you better advice and support. There's also a whole section devoted to medication which makes for very interesting reading. You've made a fantastic start seeing your GP, coming here, getting the book and ordering the supplements. Don't forget there are many aspects to recovering including eating well, sleeping well, gentle exercise and generally looking after yourself. Good luck with day one and I hope you achieve your goals.

Lisa, welcome! So glad you found us too!

Yeah, 12 -18 beers a night for years...that sounds like me. Aren't we the delicate little feminine flowers? :blushing:

I've never taken any meds, so sorry I can't help you with that. I would like to suggest that you get the book. You can download it (only about 88 pages) or order a hardcopy from the Health Store link at the top of the page.

Ask your Dr about which supplements are safe to use with the Librium. The vitamins are very key as well.

Good luck. We are here for you.

              Welcome Lisa,
You've already gotten lots of great advice here, and a pretty good idea of the support you can expect! I was drinking a lot of beer also. I didn't really have any extreme withdrawal symptoms. I quit smoking at the same time. I was mostly tired and unmotivated. But everyone is different. Great that you are working with your MD on this.

                hi hi hi

                Hi Lisa,
Nice to see you found this place. I am quite new - on my 2nd day AF for May, and feeling good about things. I did one day at the beginning of the week, but now I have ALL my supps and cd's so am all prepared to carry on. I don't know about Librium, but take the advise of all the experiences people here - they are fab. I know that if I hadn't found this site, I would still be humming and hawwing, saying "tonight I won't drink any wine" in a bleary, regretful state, but sure enough I would. It's nice to know you are not alone! There is a thread going in Monthly Abstainers, which seems to have turned into a weight loss thread - hilarious, and just what I needed!!!
So good luck - hope to hear from you alot!
