    Dreaded first weekend AF

    Hi all,

Day 4 for me, I have done 4 days AF before, but always caved in at the weekend.
Really would like to do 30 days AF, and then try modding.
Feeling very edgy today and a bit down as the weekend aproaches.
Is this normal, have been feeling great all week.
Do weekends improve when you are AF.
    :thanks: for listening

    Dreaded first weekend AF

Hi, I find weekends weird as well. Although lately I've got into the habit of going AF on a Friday night - I'm usually shattered come Friday and it doesn't seem that hard and it makes Saturdays great. Don't know your circumstances though if I was much younger and going out clubbing or to the pub or something it would be very different.

Don't think this is much of a help - just know we'll all be thinking of you

Hi Damo, I find weekends difficult, but like MM, don't know your circumstances, but certainly know
how you feel. It does get easier with time. I too will be thinking of you. wishing you well.

        Dreaded first weekend AF

        Hi Damo
Weekends can be hard as there are usually more opportunities to drink, if you are not working.
You have been doing great with the AF so think about your patterns, especially your w/e drinking patterns and do all in your power to change them by changing your activities, ditching your drinking friends for a while if need be, putting yourself out and about, experiencing non-drinking activities you enjoy-walking or anything physical. If you need rest, then arm yourself with a gripping book and have plenty of non-alcoholic drinks to hand plus lots of food to eat/nibble. Keep very busy if you can, basically and reward yourself often.

All a bit of rushed thinking but I am also AF this weekend and there is comfort in numbers! See you back here over the weekend, I hope, try not to worry but do plan today for the coming w/e and anticipate drinking triggers and actively decide now how you can avoid them. Don't worry about feeling down or apprehensive etc-view this as interesting and part of the non drinking process and determine to get through it. Reaching the other side is always a relief!

        all for now
        stay in touch with MWO

          Dreaded first weekend AF

          Hello damo,
welcome and congrats on 4 days so far!!! ODAT!!!!!
My first sober weekend was last weekend and i won't lie to you....it was hard!
I had to take it one hour, one minute and sometimes one second at a time. But, I made it through and I felt so good on sunday, it was amazing!
I also made a plan, which is SO helpful!!!
I also made a reward system for myself, I don't know what would work for you , but a new pair of shoes worked for me. (and I've been wearing them all week and so happy)
I also found, I needed to hang out here for a good bit, it helped me get my head in a good place and reminded me of why I don't want to drink. The support here is amazing!

I will be around Saturday, so if you need some support/chat, give me a holler!!!!

          I wish you the best!!!

I will thy will to will.

          be well,
          flyin/

            Hi Damo.

            Hi Damo.

I found the weekends pretty hard too.

            Especially Friday nights.

Tonight is now my 3rd Friday night AF and it has been easy.

My wife and I are loving how good being AF makes you feel.

            Stay positive. Believe in yourself.

If you feel like a drink, try having a juice or sweet drink.

I found this helped with the cravings.

            Keep up the great work.

            Cheers

            Brett.

P.S. You must be an Aussie with a name like Damo surely? :H

              Hi Damo :welcome: :new: too.

I think weekends are tough because we used AL as a psychological 'reward'. I did. But come Monday I felt like crap and the cycle continued. When you think you need a drink this weekend come here and read some posts. That really helped me. Your first clear headed Monday is the hardest to acheive. Hang tough and do it.

                in the same boat

Hi Damo - just letting you know that I'm in the same boat - first weekend AF coming up! Scary stuff, as my weekends in the past have been nothing but binges, mostly drinking all day both Sat and Sun. I will be on MWO lots this weekend so let's check in on eachother and stay out of trouble!

Hi Damo,This boats a cruise ship!!! I found chocolate seems to help and staying home away from temptation. I really hope this gets easier also - I'm on my second weekend and this is quite a challenge

                    Dreaded first weekend AF

Hi all, thanks for all the advice, much needed and appreciated, I think I am ready to go for it this weekend and stay AF, have tonight sorted for starters (bringing my son to a football match). Not going out at the weekend but usually get some beer and wine with a chinese takeaway on saturdays, will try some AF beer and look forward to a run then on Sunday morning.
Sunday will be difficult, I am from Ireland and there is a big weekends football in the UK on Sunday as the Premier League finishes up. Would usually go to the pub for that, I think I should wach it at home and then maybe go for a drive and dinner with the family.
Well thats the plan anyway, heres hoping I get through it . Thanks again for listening and all the very best to everyone here for the weekend, I hope you fulfill your goals. :thanks:

Great plan. If you do that *I* think you will get through the weekend. The Guinness in the pub would seduce me. :upset:

                        Hi Florida Boy,
Someone else said that before but I'm going to repeat it;- you are actually already deciding yes or no. Believe me. I want to suggest that you stay at home on Sunday. Do'nt tickle the tiger's tail.

                              D-17, 3rd weekend

Weekends are harder. This will be my 3rd. I still find myself thinking, "can't wait to get home and have a drink . . . oops, can't do that anymore." Things I've found that help me: Stay as busy as possible, find some non-AL things to do, I'm going to a farmers market on Sat., Have lots of fun, different, weird, non-AL drinks around. Treat yourself to some good food. Remember how the 'next day' made you feel. Remember how good you feel in the morning going AF. Blessings and good Karma are already here, just look for them.
                              Much Love to All, Metolius
