    DAY ONE is DONE

Hi all, thank you so much for the welcome and support. I got my first day of being AF under my belt!! Doesn't seem like much maybe but for me it is HUGE. I've had them before - once due to surgery, though second day I discovered Vicodin and Syrah, nice combo. Also had a few due to killer hangovers, but first time in at least two years because I just wanted to, or better, didn't want to.

My wife asked me to pick up some wine for dinner, which I did. Then I figured, of course, well, I'll just have one with dinner - good for my heart, right? So made it to time for dinner, and asked her if she wanted wine and she said "No, I think I'll just have water".

I literally stood with the bottle in front of me, opener in hand, and tried to figure out what to do. Open it and have just one? What could that hurt? But I smiled, put the opener back in the drawer, put the wine in the wine cabinet - only one in there of course since they don't last long in the house - and sat with my own glass of water.

And it felt pretty damn good. I don't know if I would have done that had I not been here hanging out, reading other stories, and getting the support from all. One down, one to go! Then one more... Then one more....

    DAY ONE is DONE

Congrats Chiman! One day is awesome! We all have to start with one...., and remember how good that made you feel!

I am on day 4 and just sitting down to dinner with my family last night, everyone laughing and joking around...it felt pretty darn good. I just have to get through the tough moments and it makes all the rest so much better!

One day at a time and we can do this!

      One! singular sensation....

      Hi Chiman,
Good for you for one day! It does feel good. I had one day last week, and that was it. Was AF yesterday and am aiming for more thisweek. Are you taking any supps or meds? I am finding that it helps and feels better to put good stuff into my body.

      Take care, CS

        DAY ONE is DONE

        Hi Chiman,
When you're in the position that a lot of us find ourselves, one day without a drink is a hell of an achievement. I know. I've been there. Putting the bottle away was awesome. Well done.

          Day one is a start

Hi Chiman, 1 day does feel good, I actually had my first AF day yesterday as well and boy do i feel good this morning. Had a little trouble sleeping though......I give alot of credit to the L-Glut and the Kudzu - I took 2 Kudzu before I left work for the gym and had no cravings whatsoever. I have to admit I felt weird not having a wine glass everywhere i went but just kept drinking alot of water. Here's to another AF day for us all!!!! :goodjob: :new:

            DAY ONE is DONE

Thanks all! I did have trouble sleeping but it wasn't bad, it was more like having energy, good energy. I layed there for a while but felt good.

Not taking any supplements, not yet. I am in training and put a lot in my body already, so not sure how things react. But the working out helps my mood, just need to make sure I don't celebrate a good run with a victory beer.

              Sleeping

I thought I would have trouble sleeping last night to, but I took 2 Calms Forte before bed (have been taking 1 several times throughout the day) and I actually slept quite well.

The weird part for me is going to have to buckle down and explain to hubby how hard this is. He knows I am doing it of course, but since he drinks too, it's kinda one sided.

Gonna go for a walk and clear my head.

                  :goodjob: Chiman,

I think reading posts here has really helped me see myself in a different light and has increased my resolve to stay AF.

                    DAY ONE is DONE

It's scary how many folk have AL in the house still. I know I was told previously at AA and then in rehab that it isn't safe in initial sobriety to have it near you. When I got back to my flat I knew there was a bottle of gin (was for a friend), and half a bottle of champagne in the fridge. I was in two minds about them since I don't drink gin and find champers too dry (it was also a present from another friend I work for sometimes). I thought it may be ok since I hadn't touched them before - then I thought about what having another drink could mean for me and those around.

I got the gin and threw it in the communal skip-bin outside, the champers was sent with my Mother to my Brother for his birthday - it was a few days away but I still told her to take it.

I am just not prepared to risk it. A ?6 bottle thrown away is cheaper than what I could lose by drinking. The only risk I do take is with bars - but over here a lot of eating places are pubs, especially on a Sunday. I am very wary though!

Yes I did slip last week and it was ok, but I was very lucky and still had two days of hell.
