SOUTH AFRICAN/ANYWHERE ELSE ON SAME TIME ZONE?

Anyone out there on SA or anywhere else on same time zone that will prob be online at the same time? Probably the same witching hour? Its cold and dark now so that hour is probably getting a little earlier. I'm approaching Night 2 now and in the middle of the "Suicide hour" with the kids which will end in about an hour or so and then the test begins as hubby is out tonight but I feel relatively positive.
Apologies for heading this South African time zone obviously anyone online is a wonderful support and a great help.
I feel I should be ok but if I falter I'll be heading right back here. I'll leave my PC and website open so if anyone else also needs support I'll be here for you too.

Welcome!!!

I have hunted high and low in SA for Kudzu but the closest I have come is not pure enough to have an effect. Feel free to send me a mail and I'll give you all the details of it and the shops where I bought it and the other suppliments from.

I did have to download the book of the website, which was quick and easy and after reading it was a real turning point in my life. Unfortunately I still haven't managed to get my hands on the Hypno CD's but I have continued the program with out them and so far so good.

Hey DeeBee, it's so great to find other South Africans that can help! Yesterday when I started reading I got so excited because What'shername Jewell's story is just like mine (almost). First time I've come across the term Functional Alcoholic and that is me too a tee. Not sure if I'm an alkie though or just an alcohol abuser?? I am sure I want to stop this kak habit.

Every Monday I promise myself to go at least till Thurs without having a drink in the evenings. Usually I only make Monday. Tue and Wed I will have about 2 glasses of wine. Thurs a bit more because it's nearly weekend and most Sat and Sundays I wake up with a hangover and crack a beer at about 12pm to take the edge off.

Funny thing is I am really living a functional life. I never miss work cos of a hangover. I have a long-term relationship with a great partner. My career is doing well, I even run ultra-marathons. Just, especially when I'm socialising, I can't seem to stop in time. I don't get fall down drunk or puke but I have too much and feel like shite in the morning.

I can so relate to everyone's stories. The thing that freaks me out is making myself a promise every week that I just don't keep. I always say I have a split personality because in the mornings I can't think that I will want a drop of booze again. As soon as I leave work I start the debate in my head. "Just one glass of wine - you've had a rough day".

Enough about me - what's your story?

Can I pay with an SA credit card for the book?

Are you on meds?

function alcohilics... yip me to - but surely we would all be functioning even better with no AL ...
i did purchase the online book with a SA credit card no prob - and all the other meds, CDs etc would also be available that way but you would probably wait a good 2 months to get everthing delivered - thats pretty much what i wait on books from amazon.com

i did search a while for local products did not come up with anything significant - will have another go...

Hi Guys. Thanks all for responding! Jessie tks for the msg! I guess we are all in the same boat - functioning on the outside but addicted on the inside! I am not working as I have 2 small children (we are not in SA at the mo as are ex-pats) But I will be back there very shortly. I have downloaded the books and started the supplements and also started on Topomax. I was on ante-depressants for post-natal depression so thought "what the hell" if it will help me beat the craving I will try it. I read the thread on Topomax on here which made me go for it. Also you can get it over the counter here as I am very embarrassed/nervous call it what you want about having any of this on my medical record. Anyway, To sum it up, i managed 36 days of being AF then went to a dinner party and had wine of course all the effort went to seed but back on track now. Did find it muc harder to break the habit the 2nd time so upp'd the topomax and feeling positive but a lot more grumpy at 6pm!!!! Anyway thats my blurb, this is an excellant site with some excellant support and advice. And in SA there is always pressure to Drink! Stick close x

Does it clash with other medication - I take a beta-blocker every day for anxiety.

So nice to see you all here. I really started to think I was the only South African lucky enough to discover this site! I feel less isolated now!

Have any of you ordered product from the health store yet? I was busy ordering the cds and kudzu when i deceided to lookup threads about kudzu first and came across this discussion! I will put my order on hold till I hear from one of you.

I was very embarrassed to tell my doctor about my problem with alkohol and asked him for a prescription for Topamax. He had no clue that it could be used for the treatment of alkohol abuse. To make a long story short - after three weeks and after reasonable success on Topamax, I made him a copy of the section in the on Topamax and wrote him a report on my progress. He phoned to thank me for the information and was clearly going to prescribe it other patients!

I did manage to find an online phamarcist who could send me kudzu and who once supplied it to a store in Menlyn, but did not keep stock of it. I did not order it, because i was not sure of the quality. I can give you the contact details, if you're interested.

It will be nice to know more or less where in SA you all live - I am from Potch.

Don't know about their quality, reportedly this site has made sure it is formulated to be the strength used in the research. Good luck.
