    ODAT - Tuesday

    Morning lovely ODAT folk!

Bit of a grey one here in the UK but meant to be dry so that's ok.

I got a list of jobs on an A4 sheet of paper and the power will be off from 08.30 - 15.30 here so will be doing a lot of stuff outside. Not a problem. Lots of potting up to do, TONS of weeding, grass cutting etc etc. Gotta pick up some more pig feed and shop for stuff on the way. Fuel is getting so expensive here now that I never go and do just one thing when I drive, I always try and get lots of things done at once to minimise the amount of journeys and therefore fuel use.

For those of you wanting news of the pigs - the one that got bitten by the dog seems to be ok - wounds being sprayed with iodine - and the escapees slept well that night after their adventure and seem fine. Bessie with the arthritis is a bit more lively - the new painkiller/anti-inflammatory drug (for horses!!) seems to be doing a good job. Trouble is I have a real dilemma now. She can't be used for breeding with the arthritis and we don't have them as pets. It's a very strong possibility that the meat inspector at the abbatoir would condemn the carcase because of the arthritis damage (we can discuss this with the butcher/abbatoir owner luckily - it is a small, family run operation and very helpful) so a home kill and butcher looks like the likely option. :upset: Trouble is the antibiotics have a withdrawal period of 10 days and I don't think it would be humane to leave her without them for 10 days just so we could have safe meat. Think I will talk to the vet and see if there is another antibio with a shorter withdrawal period that we could change her onto. There is the possibility that the antibio has done its job and that we could just keep her on the painkiller/anti - inflamm.

The good news is that the horse's kick wound has healed up nicely and I will be riding him again this week. He will be horribly slobby and lazy because he has had too much time off but we will just have to work at getting him fit again. The sheep also seem to be ok (TOUCH WOOD!!!!) We have 28 now with more if we want them. And I am waiting for various chicks to hatch, some under broody hens and others in the incubator. And my little free range mama hen is doing a good job of looking after her two little fluffy bundles. Soooo cute!

So that's news from Bessie's small patch of countryside!! The only way I can keep all this going to stay AF as often as possible - that's why I am here and doing it ODAT!!

    Lots of love to all.

Wow, and I thought my little garden was neat - you're living on "Green Acres". One thing I know about farm animals is, it is a lot of work. 24/7 no holidays, it shows a lot of dedication to care for them.
My cucumbers are starting to come in, when I get enough of them I'm going to can Jalapeno Relish. For some reason this has been on my mind, the batch I made last year was very mild, but tasty! I want some more heat this year. I gathered mulberries from the tree and they are in the freezer for jelly. The thing I am most excited about is, after 10 years of trying I finally have rhubarb growing! I even added an extension on to the garden with some strawberry plants for jam next year. Something to look forward to.
Stay strong - have a great day!
PS - I was in the Air Force and stationed at RAF Lakenheath for three years, enjoyed my time there.

      ODAT - Tuesday

      Hi all ODAT'rs

Just back from vacation so have a lot of catching up to do. Glad to see all is well on Green acres Bessie. All our pets survived our two weeks away. I have somebody who comes into the house twice a day to look after them. It means they are in their own environment, out in the garden all day and while they miss the company its less traumatic for them. The cat stayed out all night and in during the day!! That's changed for sure.

Anyway had a lovely time away, Montreal and Vermont and feel better after it. Moderated well while away and was AF last night. Plan to get most of the rest of this month AF. Same in August and then come September back to some real AF time.

Hope everyone is doing good. Off now to have a good read of the boards.

          Good morning all
Day 11, feel less depressed and irritable, slept better last night despite a former boyfriend calling me up drunk off his ass and then having the nerve to show up here after I told him not to. I did not let him in. He crashed in his truck in front of my house. Hope he's not going to be a Stalker. I figured it was best to let him sleep it off, before he drove home, but he was NOT getting in this house. Just reminded me of the poor judgement that drinking gives us. I'm sure he feels like Hell today. I will not see him again. He not seen him since I went AF. When he sobers up I will tell him. I live in the Northeast too Ripple, beautiful today, but going to get Very Hot. Hope everyone has a great day

                Hey guys!

I am feeling great today! Finally I had my AF night last night. First one for July - have moderated all month but needed an AF night. Feel so much better now. NF too last night - going to go NF and AF again today. Like you Rustop I want the majority of the rest of this month to be AF.

I'm tired though, didn't sleep great but I have a busy day so I'd better get to it!

                Take care,
                Uni

Hi to all ODATer's ---- I'll have to start again today.... I did so well last night until about 8:30 pm. I got over the witching hour by pouring cranberry/grape juice and club soda in my wine glass. Was so pleased that it worked....... then while I was reading the, glass of wine left in the bottle from Saturday night kept popping into my head... so I thought I'd finish it and that would be it ... bottle empty. Well, you know what happened ... after I drank that I went an opened another bottle.... and I didn't even have any of my regular wine ... had to open a good bottle that we normally have for company. Now I have to go and replace that today. But I WILL NOT buy any of my regular wine .... too tempting.
I woke up in the night wondering how (or if) I was going to own up to my slip to you all and the guilt kept me awake for another couple of hours.
So here I go again. I'm disappointed in myself because I wanted to go the whole week AF. But as you say one day at a time.
p.s. I'm in the Toronto area, and we too are going to have extremely hot and humid weather for the remainder of the week.

OK, first Lucid--I would love your relish recipe. Could you post it in the recipe section or here? Do you have a good relish recipe for zucchini? I don't like sweet relish. I had to make up my own recipe for dill relish last year. Jalapeno relish sounds YUMMY!!

I don't want to compete with Bessie--but I though someone might be interested in hearing about our little farm. We raise dry edible beans (think pintos) corn and wheat. The boys and I have been irrigating the crops while our tenant is away. We have one center pivot (big sprinkler) and the rest is irrigated with gut pipe and gated pipe. We have to change the water morning and night. Last night we came across a rattle snake. I made it buzz so my son could hear what they sound like, then after some contemplation, I drove the 4-wheeler on top of it, so I could kill it. Well, I missed and he slithered off into the corn field! I'm a big chicken when it comes to getting too close to those things!

Well, gotta run son to school.

                      Have a great day all!:h

                        Hi ODATERs

Didn't have time to post yesterday as the shower stuck on in the bathroom and couldn't be turned off (dial just span and didn't do anything). Husband just went to work and left it! Couldn't get a plumber to come out - downside of lliving in the country so had to take the side panel off the bath myself and then crawl underneath to turn the water off!!! Spend most of the day bruised, wet and swearing a great deal. Then when husband returned he was p****d off because he wanted a shower! Aagh.....

                        What a nightmare.

Hi ODAT'ers! Beautiful day here in the Northwest. Not too hot but bright and sunny. My garden is finally showing off and looking awesome. Hope to have some fresh garden beans soon and summer squash as well.

I feel good today. I wasn't AF but only had glass and a half of wine last night and was in bed early. And the best part was, it wasn't a struggle. Just told myself I could have more if I wanted it but that I chose not to. Sort of silly to have to psyche myself that way but whatever works, right?

Love reading the boards and hearing how everyone is doing.

                            Happy Tuesday!

Hey guys - this Trace Adkins song popped into my head this morning:
"But all I can do is all I can do - and I keep on trying...
And all I can be is all I can be - but I keep on trying..."

The other day while in a department store they played that old goofy song "Don't Worry - Be Happy", made me smile. I might have to break down and get an ipod or something.
