    How Long????

Does anyone know how long it takes for the body and mind to recover after long term al abuse? Physically I feel better now (12 days af) but I am sure there is much more healing to be done.
I am still marvelling at all the inspiration and support here. Each time I feel weak, I am here reading posts and gathering strength. Pretty often at the moment )
    Thanks guys!

    How Long????

hi Startingover, good question and I'm not aware of any textbook answer to it, but the good news is that with abstinence and proper nutrition the body and mind will make dramatic and constant recovery over a period of years. there will be times you may feel frustrated but it's just a plateau and keep plugging away! One of our beloved members Xtexan has written extensively in "long terb ABS" about this subject...look him up, very good read.

            How Long????

Starting over - I think it depends on
            1. Your body
            2. How much you drank
            3. How long you abused

I am just starting to feel like my body is really mending now (after almost 7 months AF). I think it's like healing a broken bone ......... First you set it and after 6 - 8 weeks it holds back together (the main important healing takes hold). Then the weeks and months that follow it really gains strength and repairs when you can't feel the pain anymore.

All of this probably depends on how you are eating, resting, exercising and just generally taking care of yourself during this time.

Not the answer you wanted - huh! In my opinion 12 days is almost 2 weeks after setting the bone!! :H But you will feel better and better each day - and the initial pain is gone!! Ya hoo
            Keep it up!!
AF since Jan. 1, 2008 .... It all began right here

              How Long????

Well, looks like I have a long way to go then. It will be my work in progress )
I am taking some supps and have ordered the MWO book for more ideas. I am trying to eat well and exercise. It is the mind games though isn't it? That little voice that keeps on. At the moment, I am determined but I know that when the honeymoon period is over, I will probably struggle more. Yesterday was tough a family meal with wine. I said no but it was difficult. Today I went to the pub after a long walk with dogs and hubby I had an orange and lemonade which wasn't too hard. I enjoyed it. The hardest part for me will be socialising. Not good at the best of times. But sober?? Will have to work on that one.
Thanks for all your replies. I am going to check out xtexan now.
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

                How Long????

I don't really know how long it takes as I have never given my body the proper amount of time to heal, but I do know that just after a few days of being AF I begin to feel better, so much so in fact that Ihave an absurd need to destroy that good feeling with a hangover that lasts for days on end. Good luck my friend. I hope healing is swift and smooth for you.

                Blessings,
                FROGZ~

Don't worry Frogz, you too will reach a time when you will look back and count the days proudly. I just know it!
