Not sure if I drink too much?

i guess to me it was well i'm drinking all this booze and because i'm drinking all this booze and it does impair me and really even if yu don't feel buzzed it does impair you, then that means there is just a whole lotta life you aren't doing. and for me it was well i'm trading in a whole lotta life for this stuff in a jug.. is that what i want to be doing? cuz there will come a day when i can't go run and jump and play and then i'll be sorry i didn't take advantage of it. but that is just me...

sonunds like you ARE an alcoholic and just trying to justify that your not one. you dont need to be a fall down puking street person to be an alcoholic, you know the old saying to thy own self be true

Well said Lucy! If you ask the question do I have a problem - you do! People who do not have a problem with alcohol do not pose this question. I do not have a problem with smoking or doing drugs, so these questions do not cross my mind.

I have been dancing around this issue for the better part of 20 years and I wish I would have been honest with myself back then. The pain, frustation, and embarassment that I would have saved myself and loved ones...

Take a good look at your lifestyle and keep reading... this is definately a progressive desease and there is much to learn from people who have been where you are. Ahh, hindsight! Good luck in your journey!

Having a few AF nights just to prove I have no issues or withdrawals, if I do then I will for sure get help, but I doubt it.

Sitting here without a beer or any drink whatsoever, not even substituting soft drink, doesnt fuss me one bit.

I hear what your all saying, but 30 days without alchohol doesnt freak me out, more like what a boring time I would be having instead of socialising.

If someone bet me $$, so there was a worthwhile reason for abstinance, then I'd do it for sure to win the money, but not just for self punishment.

If I can comfortably go a few days anytime, then I'm happy. Maybe I wont and then I'd have a prob for sure, but like I said I doubt it, I'm in control of my drinking not my drinking in control of me.

Surely because you have a look at a site out of interest is not a problem, I just wondered about others.

There are all the do gooders n health freaks about nowadays that everything is bad for you, I think you still gotta live life.

I'm not havin a go at you people, please dont think that, and please dont have a go at me, we are just discussing, not flaming.

Wow! Spiderpig, You asked a question and you received a lot of really well thought out answers. Why are you being so defensive? I think that if you think of doing without alcohol for a period of time as a "punishment", that says a lot!

I do think that calling us do gooders and health freaks is a bit bizarre! The fact is that the World Health Organization has stated that more than 1 unit per day for a woman or 2 units per day for a man is unhealthy and has consequences.

It is certainly your perogative to continue drinking as you have been doing. No one here is trying to convince you of anything. You asked we answered. Sorry the replies are not to your liking.

Oh....and by the way.....I have a great life, a life without drinking!

Here's my two cents, which are worth exactly that...
I'm 30 days AF tomorrow, and as many of you know, a few days back I was feeling cranky and very "deprived". Obviously I have a problem if I am cranky because I crave alcohol, either physically or mentally, or feel left out because "I can't have any". For those of us who want to moderate, we really do need to get to that point first where as RJ says, it's like butter. Nice but not necessary.

So, if I can offer any advise or comment to spiderpig, keep an eye on your habit. The years quickly slip by and before you know it, you will want or need it every day and your life will start to revolve around finding that next drink and avoiding places/events where it is not available. I know this personally, as I have put off many overnight visits to my parents because liquor isn't part of their life and was raised very much against it. My kids have wondered why we don't go there more often, and quite honestly, it was because I'd rather be home boozing it up. I'm working hard to change that.

Loved your post river. And congrats on almost at 30!

It is SO TRUE how the years just slip by and before you know it, you're all alone with your bottle. A couple of glasses of wine turn into a bottle which turns into 2 bottles ... nasty stuff.

:new:Hi everyone, I am a brand new newbie, this is my first post and am confused as to where I should be posting. I haven't found the right link I think. Where do I go? I am about to start the myo program I have the hypno cd's, all of the supplements and am trying to get my hands on the Topomax. A few roadblocks and am anxious to start because my husband and kids will be away for two weeks v. soon and it would be the best time to start. I am seeing a councillor today and am hoping she can get me prescription asap, although she can't prescribe herself, but am hoping to get a rx soon. All this to say that I am absolutely ready for this change and am very motivated to eventually go the moderation path with the AF as a back up plan. Did anyone follow the MYO prog. to a tee or v. close to that and want to know if they had any of the reported side effects the book addressed? I'm looking forward to this new beginning...

I follow everything except the topa (hubby doesn't want it on our records). That said, I couldn't be MORE THRILLED!!!! The book/supps/cd's work!!!! Believe in the program and in yourself and you can do it! You're life is about to change, and all for the better. You'll find tons of friends on here who will support you through every step of the way. There will be ups and downs and they will be here for you no matter what.

I have lately been having a bottle of red wine every evening. I don't go out socially, I don't smoke and I consider it to be my relaxation time I guess. I do worry about my health though because of what the government recommended limits are. In saying that I doubt very much whether I, or many people for that matter, stick to the recommended fat, sugar and salt intakes daily!!!

I think we tend to follow what we want to. If you aren't addicted to fat, sugar and salt it's probably easier to follow.

Johan, Most alcoholics drink because they like it. They drink to socialize. Many, in fact most, do not drink during the day time and are in all ways quite reliable and productive. Most of us are not physiclly dependent, nor do we experience withdrawl symptoms after stopping. Although, hangovers actually are withdrawl and most of us have indeed experienced hangovers!

Carry on, just thought I would share this information.
