Thats what my doc told me. I am drinking just enough to calm down and then eating and going to bed. He told me about the saturation effect I guess its a matter of my body being so used to being saturated with al that when I start to detox it goes into fits. Thats what happened today. I was freezing my tail off under 2 blankets and a sheet while fully clothed and still sweating like a pig, plus I was having violent tremors and shakes. I went almost a full 24 hours without a drink though and thats a start. What got me was vacation at home. I sat around for 3 weeks "resting" drinking beer all day.

Hi Dazed,
Hope your Wednesday is truly the hump day for you. I've been thinking about you and the severe physical withdrawal. Our bodies are so amazing - we give them liquid poison and they somehow learn to cope. The creator of the universe was obviously no dummie. Kudos to your wife. When you can lift your head up high, be sure to tell her in no uncertain terms how much her steadfastness and understanding mean to you. And show her in a meaningful way - how 'bout those dance classes?? You're a lucky man - getting a second chance and inspiring who else knows who. We're all pulling for you.

It was weird, I started drinking at 4pm and only drank 3, ate dinner and took a nap. About to go to bed in a few and sleep all night. Been playing with the terrier and watching vids on the computer. I feel so much better today than I did yesterday. I spoke to the Doc and he put me off work till Monday at the earliest so I can relax a bit with the ativan.

Its a good thing. I only took 1 0.5 dose. It relaxed the hell out of me. I am not big on pills other than my thyroid and blood pressure stuff. I feel great for the first time in weeks.
I cant tell you how many times I have had altered violent patients in and get had them dosed with haldol and ativan and just drop off into slumber within minutes. Now I understand why. This stuff is powerfull. Anyone that is starting out that has been drinking heavily should get something like this. The agony I went through yesterday is gone today.

Thanks, I feel a bit high right now from the ativan but its not a drunk feeling. More of a happy lightness. I am sitting in a walk in closet converted to an office and all 3 of my dogs are back here with me laying around. I am about to go cook some pasta with bertolini maranara sauce, no meat. Best stuff in the world. I havent had a real meal in days. I will eat and then grab a nap. I am going to take a walk with the jack russel later and then maybe another with my rotty, the beagle is 16 years old so I dont want to take her out, she has a bad hip.
I should have listened to everyone yesterday, that physical stuff was a nightmare. The ativan has made all the difference.

An author of a book about Jack Russels said, "If you don't want a dog in your bed, don't get a Russell." We have one. She really is better at taking a nap with my husband. The bed gets crowded with the three of us, she thinks. One of us people should get up!My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

He is a bed brat. When we go to bed he wants up there with us. Its kinda sweet right now because I am sleeping so much and its nice to have the company when the wife is at work but it can be a pain when we are both in bed and wanting to sleep or cuddle or anything else. . He is only 14 weeks old though so he is still learning. He is one of the most affectionate dogs I have ever had and growing up in Oklahoma on a farm I have had alot of dogs. I am lucky right now to have him and my part rotty part something else that I rescued from the streets, man is that a story. My beagle we got years ago when my wife had cancer and just needed a companion, shes a good dog to but is really old now.
