    New here

    Hi, I'm new here. :new:

I was doing great in a recovery programme, had 2 years sobriety, then 2 years ago I got fed up with it all and thought "I don't need this, fed up of looking at my belly button, I can do it on my own". But, of course, I can't! Have struggled the last 2 years, sometimes stopping for 2 weeks or a month, but always picking up again. Now on 3 bottles of wine a day (hence the nickname!). I am 20lbs overweight, completely unfit and I hate myself.

I haven't read much yet on the site, but am off to do so now. Any help would be greatly received. i guess mostly I want to know - does My Way Out work?

    :thanks:

:welcome: 3. It works for me!! My advice would be to get the book or download it. Understand what the programme is about, get some supplements and whatever else you feel will help you - hypno CDs etc and keep reading and posting.
      It really does work!
      Best wishes

Hi there and welcome, Does my way out work? well i think thats up to each person to work out for them selfs. i dont think anything will stop us drinking except ourselfs. i really love this place as your free to express what you are feeling to others who have the same 'problem'. get ideas on how to over come this addiction, find other ways of dealing with it ect.

Becasue of this place i have had a go at being sober for 120 days, im slipping again now. but everytime im at home and want a drink i try to come here and read, go on live chat and try to get my mind somewhere else.

I also LOVE Red Wine. normally 2 or more bottles a night.

Read around this place and post what ever you would like. people here never judge. only try to help

I love this place. some very kind hearted people.
so i guess the answer to your question is.
This place helps. but its you that must take the first step.

        Take care.. and welcome :

It works for me, although I am no where close to two years sober, much less two months. But I'm on my way, thanks to this program. I love love love this site, the program, the people. If you did two years, you certainly have it within yourself to do it again.:h

            Welcome 3 Bottles,
I am new to this site, as well. I have been posting for about 5 days. I have not finished obtaining all the supplements I need and I don't have the CDs, but I have a lot of hope for my future and the future of those on this site. Even though I am still drinking, I am doing far less than I did last weedend or even Mon,Tues of last week. I attribute it all to posting and the wonderful support of those here. It is a great community of people from all walks of life and from all over the world. They can offer support, some advice and compare notes with you on how different things have worked (or not worked) for them. I KNOW its going to work for me. One big piece of the program that I am looking forward to buying are the hypno cds- I expect them to be really effective for me. Once again, welcome. We'll all look forward to your future posts! kriger

This place is Great and has helped me tremendously. I have struggled with my drinking for the past 4 years. I was sober for a ten year period and an eighteen month period prior to that. I did get the book, and some vitamins and supps. I never thought that I would stop again, but with all of the advice and support I have for 30 days now. You had 2 years. You Can Do It Again.!! Nice to see you posting Karl. I hope that u are well.

Hi, 3Bottles: Here's a question... did your previous recovery program "work" for you? If so, how did it help? And why did you stop using that program? What is it that seems different, to you, about the MWO program?

There is no program that is something like the dream many of has have (or once had): take some pills, and all is well, no effort involved, we drink socially with never any negative effects.

So... I'd suggest you read the MWO book, and hang around here, and ask questions, and make a plan for yourself to get where you want to go!

                best wishes,

If you keep coming here, read and post often, and are honest with yourself, it will work. You will read many posts here from successful people. The people who are not successful I think mostly don't stay long. There may be some here who aren't making progress, but maybe they haven't figured out how to set achieveable goals. This alcohol thing is a hard problem, nothing works for everyone. You have to put a lot into it, and be determined to succeed.

I personally feel I have achieved great success here. It is a wonderful community, and "RJ" is a kind and generous person to make this web site available to everyone.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

                    Welcome 3Bottles,

The program the RJ has devised, as you will see when you read her book, was first and foremost for her personal benefit. She was no entrepreneur looking for a program to market as a way to make big bucks. That said, what worked for her was a multi-faceted approach vs. a single, "magic" bullet. That approach appeals to most of us because it touches all the areas that make us vulnerable to drinking. However, not everyone applies the program. It is flexible, but ignoring 90% of it probably will test your resolve more than you naturally can. So, read - read as much as you can on the website, read RJ's book, and intiate the program. Be sure to come here often - the water is fine! Good luck.

                    V.

p.s. Karl, ditto Sea's thought - good to see you post. Hope you're doing ok.

3bottles, welcome to the site. I don't know if MWO "works" but what I do know is, it has helped me a lot. Am a AF? Not 100% but I'm still working on it due to the support and encouragement of the people I find on this site.

The My Way Out program is helpful. Also, others on this site have given me a lot of insight about why I have gone back to drinking before. It has taken me all summer so far to keep building up to more and more days AF, but I kept making slow painful progress (I can honestly say I have never done anything more difficult. I am beginning to see the benefits now, though). Like others have said, it's hard. But keep coming here because you will get inspiration and ideas for making it through the hard times.

Thanks for your help everyone. WIP, I had a good think about what you said about why I gave up on the AA programme. I just felt so miserable all the time, I "worked the steps", went to lots of meetings, etc, but I just felt really depressed. It seemed to me that everyone else in the group was too! When I mentioned it to my "sponsor" she said I wasn't doing it right. Then I picked up a drink and felt a failure. I feel, for me anyway, it is a very negative programme. Also, I don't believe that a "higher power" was keeping me sober - I believe it was me doing that. So I am looking for a positive way of being AF and the MWO programme seems to offer me that.

Well, I ordered the book and will get some of the supplements today too. Can I ask, does everyone take topomax? Seems interesting to me, I have such trouble with cravings when I don't drink, I think it would help me a lot. I feel I need to be AF as I can't seem to moderate my intake, I just end up getting drunk every time.

3Bottles, I understand. I was in AA for 3 years, a long time ago, and it was helpful for me, during that time period. But, as time went on, I felt that there were aspects of the program that were holding me back, or that felt wrong to me. Part of it was the emphasis on "character defects," and what seemed to me to be almost an enjoyment of taking on the "sick" role. Another part was the heavy-handed "higher power" stuff. I had done (and continue to do) quite a lot of reading in the professional literature about addiction and treatment of addiction, and I know that the research shows that AA approach is helpful to many, but also not at all helpful to many others... or only helpful for a short time. There are contemporary approaches that I believe are and will be much more effective; the MWO program is something of a prototype, I believe, of something that can become adopted in treatment facilities, outpatient and inpatient, as well... instead of the near-universal insistence on 12-step stuff. It is multi-modal and it places quite a bit of responsibility on the individual, to set up his/her own program and follow it, getting support here, and monitoring what is helpful and what is not...

stick around, let us know how you are doing...
