      Hello and Welcome
Sounds like you are off to a good start. When I hit a difficult time, I try to stay busy or come here and read and post, or go into Live Chat. The craving does pass. Others have reported, and I am finding it to be true, that drinking beverages with lemon or lime helps to reduce cravings. I also go to AA meetings, but that is not for everyone. I wish you well as u begin your journey. It truly is a wonderful life!!

          Hello atlmom and welcome,
Thats good advice there, try to plan ahead, have something to keep you occupied, even if its just emptying the wardrobe and then colour co-ordinating your skirts and blouses, anything at all so that when you do get a craving instead of sitting there thinking about drinking you can turn your mind in another direction.

          Good luck,
          Louise.

I agree to plan ahead. And get all of the alcohol out of the house. That will take away some of the temptation. Good luck -you can do it!

                Welcome Alt,
As Sea mentioned in her post, try lemon water with lots of ice. I made a concious chg of my "beverage of choice" from beer (12-15 each day) to lemon water. It helped me get thru that 1st day and now I'm on day 3 and really hopeful about my future. Come here as often as you can- we have a wonderful, supportive group of people on this site. Good Luck. kriger

Altmom....good start! Have you read the book? Many here, believe reading the book and setting up a plan and taking a "No Matter What", I Will Not Drink.......works wonders!!

For me, I did all of the above and took the supps and I stuck close to those that were having success with this! I relieved heavily on the words and example of those that were making this program work. And, It Does Work!!

                  Best Wishes,

This sounds dumb, but I've been going to bed early.

If I stay up, I get twanged too much by old habits. Nothing to do with my hands. So for a little bit, I've just been going to bed an hour early, and reading for part of the time, and then just going to sleep. I was thinking today I might have to take up knitting or something like that!

Now Day 5 AF after 20+ years of always going to bed with a strong alcohol buzz.

                        Hi atlmom and welcome....
Going to bed early works for me too, or having a nice long, hot bath, just to get me past the witching hour.
When I'm struggling, I like to come on here and read some posts.
There are a lot of stories and advice that I'm sure you will be able to relate to.

Thanks. So far so good. I did get the book in the mail today and read it. I am headed to a PTA meeting so that should keep me AF for a few more hours. Then I'll try an early bedtime.

:welcome: altmom! That lemon water some others have mentioned is mighty refreshing in this heat we're having! Sounds like you're in the right frame of mind. Look forward to hearing from you. Alley

atlmom ~ Welcome! I see you have received a lot of great advice so far.

The key is to change your habits at that witching hours that's for sure. Someone mentioned knitting. But there are lots of things to do once you give it some thought. Get caught up on your reading, start a simple paint by numbers, tackle a 1000 piece puzzle, clean out that junk draw that has been neglected for so long. You will be surprised how much time you will have to really get things accomplished. And each little task be it chore or recreation is going to make you feel so great just for getting it done.

And in the beginning of my AF days, I found that Chamomile tea helped keep the jitters and nervousness at bay. That's if stress is one of your triggers as it was with mine. I learned to reach for the Chamomile instead of the bottle and it got me through tough times more than once.

Best of luck to you! You are on your way! We are here for you.

Alcohol is simply the device between success and failure.
