    ODAT Friday

Morning all. Look, here I am starting the thread again after a couple of days off. I'm still not going to do it every day though! Had an AF night last night which makes me feel a lot more comfortable but I lay tossing and turning and thinking about all the stuff that needs doing. I woke up this morning with my head full of those thoughts too. Really is one of the main reasons I drink to try to find a place to go that doesn't need me to work. But it is all in my head and I really need to develop a different attitude to it. It's not like I have a bad life -- I have plenty of plusses and benefits and lots of things that I like but I forget how to relax and enjoy it in the face of everything that needs doing to develop and maintain it. And I'm a bit of a workaholic so that doesn't help. Even pleasurable things like walking dogs, gardening and riding horse are just more jobs on a long list of jobs. That's wrong so I have to re-think. I need to find a method that will allow me to look at life in a different way - maybe a book (like I've got time to read one!! :H) Any suggestions?

Have a great day all. Al free for me.

Hi Bessie and all to come!
Good to have you back Bessie, I can relate to what you are saying about using al to escape from the lists of jobs, pressure in your mind. For me it is the same and I need to find other relaxing things to do in the evening. Silly thing is I'm actually better off if I go out as it means I'm occupied with other thoughts.
Hubby is back now so it'll mean adjusting and hopefully more incentive to avoiding al in the evenings. We're off on a canal holiday in a weeks time which will be a break from the daily routine.
Bessie - I was going to suggest some sport but I reckon you get plenty of exercise with your work!
    Take care all

Hi Bessie, Evie and all to come

You are right Bessie we probably all need to find something to replace the "getting away from it all" reprieve alcohol gives us. Mind you with Al its very temporary and really not worth it so we need to keep reminding ourselves of that. I love reading and do it a lot in the evenings, sometimes works, sometimes doesnt. A nice relaxing bath is something I have not had in a while, its the hop in, hop out of the shower routine so I must get back to that.

We should compile a list of nice things to do at the end of the day? When the evenings get long I plan to start some sort of craft project, dont know what yet but something to keep me busy at witching hour. What do other people do?

Hi Bessie and all to come . Bessie sounds like work is your life I can understand that all consuming thing!!!!!! always in the mind frame..... "so much to do" "so much not done today" and so much coming tommorrow !!!!! any one would toss and turn with that heavy weight. I find "distraction" is the thing for me...... those little distractions that provide that circut breaker from the previously mentioned thinking patterns. Like today me and my little darlin were fossicking through daddys old books in the shed and she found this one called "WHO FARTED" . Its a book with no words but pictures from old movies and stuff with one of the characters having a suspect look on their face> me and my junior beast laughed so much guessing who farted we both had to change our undies. Then the mobile rang back to earth but that little distraction gave me so much joy and energy. Bess hope you can find a little distraction today

Good Morning! Bessie, Evie, Rust, Capt and Paula.
I think we all experience that feeling of not being able to shut our mind off from time to time. But some of us are dealing with it more regularly. I know when it happens to me, it is miserable. So, I feel for those of you that are wired for it to be that way always. Seacailin gave a great idea on another post that she had gotten from a lady on how to overcome that. She said to focus on her breathing, etc. Maybe if she sees this post or if someone sees her, she can explain it in more detail. It sounded like a great way to get away fromt he hamster wheel in your brain and relax.
Great day for me, today. It is Friday!!!! I am still AF. Going to the horse track tomorrow. For those of you in the states, it is the Arlington Million Race. I live in the Chicagoland area. It will be a fun day. We will attend a handicapping seminar in the morning. I usually just read the name of the horses and pick one that I like. ha ha ha. But, sometimes I have picked nearly every winner. There will be live music, food, AL (which I will not consume AF Beer for me!).
Capt, that book sounds so fun!!!! It would be a great party tool, or great time with me and my stepson. I am always looking for ways to spend time with him. He and his Dad are into computer games and I could care less, so I am off in the corner quite often. Do you think I could order it from Amazon?
Have a great day everyone! Hello to all to come.

Capt, I looked on Amazon. They have "Who Farted" AND "Who Farted, Now?" AND "Who Farted, This Time!?" (Although the last one is not available) Looks like I will have plenty of good times with my Stepson! LOL Thanks. This guy must have some sense of humor.

Oh my hat I have to pick myself off the floor I'm laughing so hard.... you are all in top form today!! O2m I nearly peeded myself reading your post!!! I always say "woman probs" when asked why I'm on anti-biotics and that normally shuts them up very quick. As my dear hubby likes to say, no one likes to know when a woman has plumbing issues.

                      I can relate

I can so relate about not being able to relax and stop "thinking". That is why I drink also. It is the only thing I know that works. The problem is the next day I am just "thinking" all day about how mad I am at myself because I wasted an evening and feel like crap. It is going to be hard to learn new ways to relax. I spent $50 on a meditation CD, and can't discipline myself to use it--unbelievable. Just have to keep on trying. Life should not be about feeling stressed all the time because of the "lists" in one's head!

What to do in the evening? This a tough on. I could do just about anything drinking - except for reading. I try to go to bed early and read. No baths, cooking or TV (especially Reality TV) in the evening. These were all drinking activites.
