Hi All, Just registered so wondering what most people do to start with, I've tried to cut down and give up many times and just resorted back to the standard routine, I'm 39 and have had this resting on my shoulders since a teenager, come from a family of heavy drinkers so grew up around the stuff, just wondered if many people out there have managed toi cut down to a healthy amount and what they found the best way, also wondered if they were many people registered with MYO in NZ, I've been looking at MWO form a distance for quite some time now
but finally decided to moveTags: None

The best thing to do is either download RJ's book or order it. I went ahead and got the starter pack which included the book, supplements and cd.s..while I waited for them to arrive I drank lots of lemon water and read threads and posted. When my package arrived 5 days? later, I read the book, started taking the supps as per the schedule, listened to the cds as per the book, for the whole 28 days and I am now 42 days AF ( alcohol free). I am 47 and have never been a moderator of alcohol, always drank to excess, but not everyday, was Af off and on and once for 6 months..this time was the time when my brain clicked and I knew that I had decided I was done. No plans to even moderate, that is the healthy decision for me... As far as healthy drinking levels, dont know what that is. I do know that the program strongly reccomends at least being 30 days AF before making steps or decisions like that.
Welcome, thanks for posting and keep on reading...post and let us know how you are doing...workout:chick:mwo2

Hi Jimmy and welcome.
I'm across the road. Most of us started by reading the My Way Out book which you can download. From there you can make a decision whether you want to aim for total abstinence or to seriously moderate. You can also decide whether you want to try medication, the supplements and/or CDs. Reading as many posts as you can absorb can also help to start you off in the right direction.
Look forward to seeing you around.

Hi and thanks for the quick replies, sounds like I need to get stuck in a read, it does seem quite motivating seeing all the posts, have many people tried the meds just get kick started straight off? if so which is the most popular? Thanks

Jimmy, I'm glad you came back and started a thread! The bare outline is this: MWO is a program, and this forum is a support area for people who want to pursue a program to get free of alcohol.... some want eventually to engage in "moderate" consumption of alcohol, others are certain they do not wish to do that (or feel that it would not work out for them)... The program that is described in the MWO book recommends that those who wish to engage in moderate consumption should follow a plan that includes at least 30 days of no alcohol consumption at all... with the assistance of various dietary supplements, exercise, hypnotherapy, and this support forum... not everyone includes all of those elements of the program, though.
Welcome to you again! Read the book, stick around, read a lot of posts, and tell us what you think and what your questions are.

Welcome Jimmy,
WIP gave you a great synopsis of the program. The forums are the key for me. Similar to WIP I plan to go AF; I know moderation is not going to work for me. One turns into 15 for me without the blink of an eye. It was difficult for me to get the first 24 hours under my belt, but now I'm on day 5 and I have no doubts I will be able to do 30...and beyond. Good luck to you in the route you take. Come back here often and you will find many supportive friends. I look forward to your posts, Jimmy. Hi Jimmy,
I started by reading the My Way Out book too. I found it in the self-help section at the book store by accident. It's a really easy read. I've read it a couple of times. It's taken me about two years to really embrace the whole concept of this program, but just recently I've started taking most of the supplements that RJ outlines in her book. I also finally found the courage to talk to my doctor about Topamax and he prescribed it. I'm up to 75mg. and I have cut back in my drinking. In fact, I haven't gotten drunk in days, and that hasn't happened in a long time. What I'm trying to say is that I think that this program can work if your willing to work at it. My hope is that I'll be able to drink moderately someday, but most importantly, I what to stop getting drunk all the time. Sounds like that's what you want too. Read the book. Read posts here. Get your mind in the right place. It doesn't happen over night, but when your ready, it can be done. You'll be able to do it. RJ suggests a whole arsenal of supplements, meditation CD's, a the prescription Topamax (if interested) to aid in the process. It's something more tangible than AA's twelve step program. Anyway, I'm rambling. Good luck. Keep us posted.
