    I'm new

    Hi,

I'm getting ready to start and I'm scared and excited!! I have tons of concerns that I'm hoping you may have already figured out and can share with me.

I suck at remembering people's names as it is and it's important in my job. I tried to order the nootropic but had no luck. Any suggestion?

My sons are away at school now and I can't figure out what in the hell I'm supposed to do with all of the "no drinking " time I'm going to have. How have you found hobbies etc. I'm alone and I finally figured out I've been dating my bottle.

Last, Thank you. I'm really really glad that you'll be here. I'm starting tio realize how lonely drinking really is.:new:

    :colorwelcome: Seaworthy!

Grab a notepad and start writing down things you have wanted to do but haven't done while dating your bottle. (I like the way you put that...so true!) You probably have a list of "chore" type stuff - and sometimes it feels really good to knock stuff off the chore list. But I hope you also include fun things or pampering things on your list as well. For me, it helps having these things written down as 1) checking off the chores is positive and 2) if a bad craving strikes, it's much easier to grab a pre-written list (or other words of wisdom you might want to keep handy) than to think stuff up in the heat of the battle.

As an example, I've always loved to read and have gotten back into that again in some of my spare time. Even got a library card and figured out how to use their on-line system to reserve and renew books!

Welcome to MWO and I wish you the very best in your quest to give up the booze. It has been difficult at times, but well worth the effort in order to get my life back.

      Hi Seaworthy,

I joined about a week ago and I have found the people here to be very helpful and supportive. There's not a question that you could have that someone here hasn't had experience with. It took me a few days to learn my way around the site, but I come here everyday and always learn something. Communicating with others with the same problem is a big help.....

I understand about what to do with the time. I have several hobbies that I have gotten back into. My mind can really only think of one thing at a time, so they become a welcome distraction when cravings rear their ugly head! Light exercise is also recommended.

In short, I'm having to act differently than I feel. Not easy, but doable. Lots of help here... I just got into the MWO book, which is excellent, and will start the cd's today.

      Good luck!

Welcome, Seaworthy. Sorry I can't help with the medication question. You might re-post the question in the section that is dedicated for medication questions, and it might get some additional attention and possibly an answer, there. Sounds as if you have already read the MWO and you are ready to go... why don't you tell us a bit more about yourself, such as what brought you here, and how is this program going for you?

Oh, and the ODAT thread (one day at a time) in the newbies section is always a big help if you're interested.

Hope to hear more from you soon,
            love and hugs,

Welcome Sea! There was a thread earlier about what to do with our time. Some suggested reading, quilting, going to bed early and so forth. Try to find something that you would not normally do while drinking.

                Best to you!

                      I'm new

Hi Seaworthy, I know how you may be feeling. I"m new at this to. When I quit smoking a couple of years ago I went through a time of really missing my buddy. I loved smoking more than anything and had done it for a long time. I read alot of advice colums on quitting and they all seemed to shorten the time it takes for a person to really get over an missing a substance of choice. You have probably heard the three day thing to get nicotine out of your body, they always say the first three days are the hardest. That wasn't the case with me. It took me a little over a year and a half to stop missing my cigs! I have to believe that giving up my binge drinking once or twice a month will be about the same proccess. I found a lot of things to do instead of smoking. I filled my life with people, ( I wasn't very social) and a lot of exercise, I run 20 plus miles a week now. When I first quit smoking I couldn't run at all. Change is slow, but it comes if we are deremind to change. I don't want to depress anyone but it's hard for me not to be honest. I have been fighting a lot of things in my life for along time and for me I know that alot of work was involved. I hope others an easier time of it but that hasn't been my experience. Goodluck and keeep posting!

                        Hi Sea,

Welcome!! You have already been given wonderful advice, I hope it helped? I know when I first started how daunting having all that free time was, well I can quite honestly sit back and wonder WHAT free time LOL. It's amazing the chores and hobbies we find once we boot AL out the door.... just living a normal life and doing normal things has taken up a lot of my time. Oh and when I'm at a loose end and start to "wobble" I jump on-line for a chat.

Have you thought about taking Omega3-6-9, it is great brain food, I have already seem a remarkable improvement in my memory.
