    Making a Change

Hi all. I've been reading these forums for several weeks and finally signed up today. I've had an alcohol problem for all of my adult life and I've had enough. This entire summer has been a pretty serious bender.

I started the supps including kudzu and l-glutamine on Monday. The book should be delivered this week. Today is day 2 AF for me. I'm taking this one day at a time. I really don't have a framework for life without alcohol and that scares the crap out of me.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome Surcee. I'm glad you found this site. Most of us have a hard time imagining the rest of our lives without alcohol.
Great job on your 2 days!

      Welcome Surcee!

Don't get scared, make Plans! There's a whole world out there beyond the haze, books to read (and write) and people to meet. All the stuff that got put aside for 'you know what'.

For me, the biggest changes are coming as I get back a normal sleeping pattern. I remember way in the past when I could get up in the morning, and actually DO something, read the paper and then get some private activity done even before I started work. Then I got in a habit where I always slept with alcohol, which I now realize wasn't sleeping at all. It was all I could do to dragging my body into work in the morning. Heck with that! These wonderful summer mornings keep me inspired to get up and get moving. And that inspires me to "stay good" in the evenings which is my toughest time.

:colorwelcome: surcee!! Glad you found us, and glad you have your supplements and the book on the way. I can second the recommendation about the Hypnosis CD's - I really think they have helped me. Much better return on that investment than buying more Vodka.

I know what you mean about not having a framework for life without AL. I too was a "whole adult life" drinker. And a daily drinker. I ended up basically as a prisoner in my own home for much of the day every day by the end of it. What to do with myself was a big deal. I took the time to write write write stuff. Why I want sobriety. Lists of things to do - even short term things. A good To Do list can save you during a strong craving. I find that cravings are much less intense if re-direct myself to some activity when I have them, rather than sit and fight with it in my head. My to Do list has everything on it from chores I want to get done to books I want to read and recipes I want to try.

It's wonderful to get FREE. It's not easy, but the results are worth the effort. I hope you stick around to share this journey with the MWO crowd. Best wishes,

PS - Boss.man I love your thoughts about mornings!! What a difference no hangover makes!! I too am enjoying getting a lot accomplished before the rest of the world is up and at 'em.

Thanks again everyone! Day 3 AF is done - day 4 starting.

Boss.man - I'm finding it strange to sleep through the night. When I would pass out to sleep I would wake at 3:30 am and never get back to sleep. I'm looking forward to really being rested.

mwo2 and DG - I looked at the CD's this morning. Is the 4 CD abstinence set an updated version of the original? Just checking on which to order. I'll have to go buy a portable CD player.

DG - a special thanks to you. I found my way here through one of your posts on a weight loss site we both visit. :thanks:
