So glad I found this website

    :new:

    Hi Everyone,

As a newbie, I thought I may as well jump in and post. It was pure chance that lead me here. I have been struggling for about five years with my drinking. It was pretty bad after a messy break-up and I was drinking everyday, sometimes mornings, at work. I have gradually managed to reduce my intake and now can have a week or even two without a drink. Then I lapse. I want to drink normally 'cause I can't bear the thought of never drinking again. It's that second drink that tips me over but I feel I have no control. This programme has given me the first glimpse of hope in a long time.

It's really encouraging to read all of your stories. Do you need a prescription to get topa. in Australia or can you order it from OS?

      Welcome Bok,

Have you read the book yet? I highly recommend it and it does explain the whole program with a list of the supps and medication.

Looking forward to more posts from you!!

Thanks guys for your prompt response. Have read the book and just finished ordering the supps and CDs. Am trying now to pluck up the courage to go to the GP and ask for Topa. Would you guys recommend I get a prescription or is it safe to order online? I don't know if you can even order it online in Australia.! So great to finally be talking openly to people in a similar situation. Have tried to cover it up for so long. Friends and even my partner think I am so together when really I am SOOOO not. The guilt is what's killing me now. Don't understand how this happened to me. Anyway...

If you can it is better to go to your GP. My GP has been great and supports me 100% even though she had never heard of the program before.

          Great to have you on-line!

:colorwelcome: Bok! I will just second the motion that I think if you CAN work with your doctor re: prescription meds, that's optimal.

You are in familiar company here - many many people are quite functional on the surface (career, family, etc.) while slowly dying inside with alcohol addiction. It DOES feel good to be able to talk to people with similar problems, doesn't it. Especially in a place that offers tools to help with the solution!!

I encourage you to NOT skip the part of the recommended MWO program about going at least 30 days alcohol free before attempting moderation. And also closely examine the part of the book where RJ talks about how you THINK about alcohol, and what that means in terms of your potential success with moderation. I would have saved myself a lot of agony had I NOT skimmed over that part so quickly.

With determination and the MWO tools, you can succeed at getting out from under the ball and chain of alcohol. Look forward to sharing the journey.

Already i fell so totally supported. You must all agree that the ability to talk freely to similar people is a great help n knowing you are not alone. THANK YOU so much already. REALLY. I feel supported and empowered. I read the MWo book and maybe I selectively ignored the 30 days abs. Is that a vital part. I will so be on here every minue if that is the case. Do I do 30 before I start the supps and CDs andstuff? Thanks guys. One strangely happy girl!

Bok, welcome! You start the supplements, exercise, CD's, etc. at the same time that you stop drinking, for a first 30-day period. That gives you time to get your mind and body cleared of the effects of alcohol, so you can begin to think effectively about your goals and your attitude about alcohol...

                    best wishes,

THanks WIP!> How do you get through the 30 day period? My counsellor was talking to me about that. Ive done two weeks but can never seem to break 30 days.

Can I take Topamax at the start or after. Sorry for all the questions. It helps to hear from experience.

It's OK, Bok... First, you go ahead and start the topa right away, when you have decided to commit to the 30-day period of freedom from alcohol. Second... how do you do it? One thing we say around here sometimes is: "Whatever it takes!" You follow the steps in the MWO book (you really might want to read the book again, this time more carefully, because it will be your blueprint for a plan), uses the tools of MWO, and get lots of support and information and suggestions right here on the MWO site. There are a lot of threads that are especially set up for people doing their first 30 days AF... look around, join some threads, and you will not be sorry your did.

Thanks soo much WIP. Ive been seeing a counsellor once a fortnight and I seem to keep it together for a week and then 'forget' I have a problem. Maybe a can find a cheeraquad to remind me here. Thanks so much. Its just such a new experience after having to deal with stuff alone for so long.. I see you have done 24 days - well done. My max is 14 and i kept thinking - why dont i want to feel like this always? It just takes one bad day to tip me over for at least a month! Im so glas that you are achieveing your goal - 30 days????

Hey, Bok, good for you, stick around, you WILL find a cheering squad here.

As for me, my short-term goal is 30 days, but my real commitment is a life free of alcohol. I was AF for 3 years once, and for other shorter periods of time (once or twice for a year... ) but in the past I have always gone back to drinking. Now I am 56 years old and totally disgusted with alcohol and what it does to my life. I am done, totally done with it.

                            best wishes,
