New to the Site- Wine addict

    Hi,

I have been drinking a bottle of wine a night for a few years now, and I came on here cos I think it's getting to the point where if I have an evening where I can't access alcohol, I either drink b4 I go out, or occasionally put a small bottle of wine in my hnadbag- so I guess that makes me an alcoholic - horrible word.

I have a very understanding husband, who has just said maybe I should start by cutting down, and I agree, but any advice would be very helpful.

I am overweight- probably due to the alcohol and late night nibbles that it brings.

I want to start trying for a baby, but know I can't whilst I drink this much, cos it wil hurt the baby.

If there are any other wine addicts out there- pls get in touch :new:

Hi Flower, and a warm welcome to MWO. I'm not a wine drinker, my poison of choice was / is vodka... straight. You'll find lots of support here, stick around. I'm on Day 2 alcohol free.

        Hello

My favourite drink is red wine too. I don't think I am an alcoholic, but a problem drinker, as I never drank during the day or felt the urge too, BUT, I enjoyed my drink of an evening and was becoming more tolerant so needed more to get me drunk. Then I would feel terrible the next day, and say never again until the evening came, and off popped the cork, and off I went again. I think it would probably only be time before I went to the next stage and started during the day. I too have gained a lot of weight because after drinking I always ate to soak it up.

Apparently a lot of mums in the UK have turned to drink too and drinking at home.
A combination of boredom, stress, loss, personal circumstances, and the fact that it is much cheaper to drink at home than go to the pub, are all factors, according the the press, and I would agree with a lot of that.

Good luck on your journey and with trying for a baby.

        Regards

Hiya, Im a wine addict too.. usually about two bottles a day, and more if I go out for a glass or 3 at the pub.
Good to know your husband is understanding, together you can get through this. My partner is helping me sooo much. Im on Day 2 alcohol-free and was really irritable with him last night.. I didnt mean to be, and he went and ran me a lovely bubble bath and lit the bathroom with candles
Sunday night was the last time I had a drink, because I knew I was doing the 30 Day AF September.. and I remember passing out next to the patio doors, waking up and realising Id been sick over the dog

Whenever Im getting twitchy (Day 2 is always a nightmare) I keep that mental image in my mind of sunday night.

Anyway, Welcome to the board - You're not alone. Keep reading and posting
          Best Wishes,
          Chelle.

P.S. I bathed poor doggy the next day

Welcome Flower, Wine is also my drink of choice. Also like scotch and beer. Somehow wine felt more sophisticated. Well it isn't. I am on this road once again and am AF 5 days now. I went 30 days in May, most of June and 1/2 of July. August I was back to full speed again and my tolerence was up. I found that to be one of the scary things as I thought if I laid off for awhile it would take less to get a buzz. I was wrong at that as well. A supportive partner is so great. My husband is as well. He never criticized me but had expressed concern. Definetely read RJ's book and keep reading and posting here. I had alot of trouble at first calling myself and alcoholic, I prefered problem drinker. I now do not mind saying alcoholic as it reminds me of the seriousness of the disease or disorder. Very best to you in your journey.:welcome:

              Hi flower :welcome:

I chuckled a little when I read your post--It seems to me the majority of the members here would call wine their poison. Beer is mine. This is a great program, start by reading "My Way Out' and go from there!

Hello! This is my first time posting. I too have a problem with wine. My cicumstances are a little different than some as I had gastric bypass surgery about 5 years ago. I drank socially before, but nothing like after surgery. It effects you quickly and leaves you quickly, so you end up drinking more. I do not drink everyday, but when I do I can easily drink two bottles. I probably drank 4 days a week. I am concerned for my health and my sanity. I have been AF for 7 days. I didn't suffer any withdrawels and actually haven't wanted any wine. The funny thing is I don't drink liquor and if that is all that's offered, I won't drink. I can have a couple of beers and I'm good and don't want anymore, but when I drink wine I can't stop. This is my first time posting and I enjoy nreading all of your post!! If anyone can relate, please respond.:new:

Melmo Welcome as well, I can't remember who but I think there are a few here who have had gastric bypass and similar issues. I have heard you just go from one addiction to another. Think of all you went through to get yourself healthy and feel good about yourself.

                        Yip another wine drinker here.

You can beat this beast! Read the book first, get the supps and cut back drastically until you are ready to follow the program and go AF (Alcohol Free) for 30 days. Whether your goal is to moderate or abstain from drinking AL all together there is support and understanding here.

I know.. he's a samoyed too, so all white and fluffy... well, NOW he is.
They're called the "smiling dogs", but Im pretty sure he gave me a scowl on monday morning.
What made me nearly throw up again was the fact my other dog was trying to eat it off his back.
Felt so guilty I took them out for an extra long run and got them two massive bones to chomp on.
