Welcome to the newcomers ----- my story is very much like yours, except I'm much older and have been upping the one bottle per night to 1 1/2 lately and been doing it for a longer period of time ..... so good for you to stop now (especially before you try and conceive). With my first pregnancy (29 years ago) I didn't stop drinking until I knew I was pregnant ... and one night on a business trip (when I suspected I might be), I had a binge. Have always regretted that one night, as my daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability when she was about 5 years old. Learning has always been hard for her and she had to work extra hard for mediocre results. The silver lining to this though---- it has given her a great work ethic and she's doing well in business because she is such a hard worker. I've not shared that with anyone else ... it's been a horrible burden to carry the fact that I probably was the cause of this.
I'm also on Day 2 AF (again) and going to try for the 30 days this time. This is a great site to gain the inspiration to continue. The effort it takes will be well worth it.

We have a home bar completely stocked with every type of liquor -- we love to throw parties -- and I never even think about opening it or making a "drink-y drink" for myself. I do have a martini rarely, when we are out at a nice steak joint. But wine, that's a different story: I can practically hear the "glug, glug" when I drink it down. And I can scarcely wait to open the next bottle. Have never been overweight, though, and I have no idea why -- I know there are a ton of calories in those bottles I wash down. Wish I could keep it out of the house, but alas, we have a nice wine cellar and my fabulous husband loves it and doesn't have a problem stopping after the second glass. Not really fair for me to say "get rid of it all!" especially since I am the one who introduced it to our lives -- before we were together, he never drank. Ah, well. Good luck to all of us wine addicts/lovers and may we find a healthier way...

Hey Blondie_grrrl, Do not have a wine cellar but do have a fully stocked bar. I hear ya, I hosted a Labor Day party Sunday and was getting drinks for all my guests but stuck to Oduols. My one guest even brought a gift of wine and nice Cognac. Lucky you for no weight gain.

I found that Ive put on nearly a stone in weight over the past year through drinking wine... and I was dieting at the time too.
Im hoping this 30 day AF will help towards shifting some of these extra pounds.

My understanding is that the alcohol/calorie issue is very complex, not like calorie = calorie with other foods. I.e., the calories consumed as alcohol are always used first by the body, rather than other calories, so if you have the wine and steak, your body is going to work through the steak only after it processes the wine. If you'd had water, the steak would be worked through your system earlier. Too much alcohol (aka Why We Are Here) interferes with absorption of nutrients that help build muscle & keep you lean, and I've read it interferes with the body's ability to clear estrogen, which can increase body fat. Also depletes glycogen storage in the liver, increasing blood sugar and fat storage. Finally, the obvious reason of weight gain for some people is the "Wow, I can eat that whole pizza" reason, which is reduced inhibition. Also known as the "I would look good dancing on that table" but we're just talking about calories, here, I believe.

Welcome Flower, the book/supps/cds are a great way to start! I got the starter pack and found that it made the difference for me.... It is the best "investment" I ever made, cheaper than alcohol and all related health issues for sure! Hope you stick around,

Blondie ---- that would explain these extra 25 pounds! Hopefully losing some (or all) of it will be a great side benefit to going AF. It would be extra encouraging too.

                        Kat --
Hosted a party and no alcohol yourself?? You go! Actually I have found that when we throw parties I tend to have a slower start, drink less early in the evening (not that I don't have more than my share after people leave, as part of my "clean up routine"). Now that I am trying for an AF September I don't think I am going to tempt myself with any party-throwing...you should be proud of yourself!

Thanks Blondie_grrrl, I do feel proud especially since two of my biggest triggers were there. My crazy mother and my sister who just got her ankle braclet off from 27 day house arrest. Did take a big nap when everyone left. Would normally spend the day and into the evening numbing things out.

Flower - welcome! This place is Addicting... in a GOOD way!

But, Chelle - I literally laughed out LOUD reading about you puking on dog. Then almost puked myself when you said other dog was eating it. OMG!!!

Toooo funny (well, not for your dog!)...

Fellow wine addict here! I usually started my night with two-three beers. Then finish it with wine. This is my first day AF ~ you should join me and the rest of the Sept AF groups.
