New to the Site- Wine addict

    hi flower

    :welcome:

I'm new today too and posted my first message on the just starting out forum - "new - in need of encouragement" - have also joined the 30 day AF for Sept thread.
Yes I can identify you on the wine front! Over the last couple of years have gone from one glass a night, up to 2, then 3 then 4 then a bottle - I have to stop.

My circumstances are sligtly different in that my drink problem only really developed after my 2nd child was born, due to postnatal depression, hysterectomy, lack of family suppport with the kids etc. During pregnancy I had a horrible time with sickness and extreme nausea for the whole 9 months that I never even contemplated a drink.

I'm on my 2nd day AF now - keep in touch and good luck

Winos galore!!! It was the one thing I was surprised at when I first joined this site - how many of us have a problem with wine!! So welcome to the newbies on this thread!! There are so many of us in the same boat. And about the weight - I lost about 14lb during my first attempt in May and then AF June - felt great!!! And I do believe it was because of all the wine calories I had eliminated and my increase in exercise because I wasn't so yucky and tired feeling every day. Gained some back during July and Aug, which I think is directly due to wine calories! So I am now on Day 2 (again) - back on the wagon - and am also hoping to drop a few pounds again.

Thanks for the posts, it really helped.
I guess I am a 'problem drinker' and not fully fledged yet... I don't get the urge to drink until after 5pm !!

The problem with me is that whatever I drink, whether it be diet coke/ orange juice or wine, I drink too fast, and I think it is the speed i consume that has led me to get into this state !!

I am currently trying to cut down to 2 glasses of wine a night, as like Isaid b4 I want to start trying for a baby soon, and I don't want it to be a terrible struggle getting off the wine.
            Thansk again,

              Hi again flower--

I drink too fast also. I never could or would drink a mixed drink, because it would be gone in like 5 minutes! Thanks for the reminder that I need to learn to sip--will make my diet pepsi last longer!!

Ha ha, I agree, maybe sipping my drinks rather than gulping them would help !! Imagine how many less glasses i would get through. I'm gonna give that a try xx

Add me to the wino list! About 2 bottles a day.

This will be my 3rd attempt on getting this monster under control. Waiting on my Topa to arrive any day now ... trying to control until then.

                    Welcome to the newbies!

Wine is also my vice. Rather than drink it every day, i can be alc free for weeks, then i binge on wine for 2, 3 sometimes 4 days. Its always white wine. I drink it till i pass out, wake up and carry on till im gone again. And so on ans so on. I can lose a whole day sometimes. It has got like this in the last 6 months, though ive always had a passion for white wine since i can remember(was brought up in a rest). I had a mother who was partial to the odd gallon or two of it when i was younger, and to me it seemed normal growing up. I can go through 2 or 3 bottles in a day easy and i always feel like death for about 3 days after my 'binge'
Quit for nearly 5 years, but have been on the decline for the last 2 years and its come to the point where i am at a crossroads. I either carry on and lose everything and prob die an early death or i stop for good and move on.
Have just cooked dinner for myself and my daughter, which was wonderfull, and it makes me wonder why i do this to myself and loved ones.
Anyway, im alc free since aug 30th, and thanks to everyone here feel positive about the future.
Thanks for listening and good luck to all.

I'm new here. Also stopped on 30 August. Drank white wine almost every evening for about 3 years. I don't miss it yet, but the weekend is coming up up and I know my mental associations. Have to somehow keep out of the supermarket or anywhere they sell it (which is everywhere here on the continent). I'd love to get the book and the tape, but have to wait till payday. Can you pay with a euro credit card?
I'm absolutely determined about doing the 30 days AF. This will mean staying home every evening for a while. My problem is loneliness, I have a wonderful teenage daughter, no husband around, no relatives, only friends who drink. Can't go to AA - tried it but there are reasons I can't go. Have no relationship with my doctor. I don't want to die for my daughter mainly but for me, too. If I carry on I will have an early death and I get scared of that. I work like hell to keep things going and when the evening sets in, I used to feel I "deserved" to unwind. But not drinking. Have also out on about 10 lbs in the last 2 years. Starting menopause and feeling really, really, down.

Hi, Had. So glad you are "absolutely determined"! And I can pretty much promise you... instead of being sort of a grim march through abstinence, it can be a really wonderful experience. Difficult, true, but with a lot of compensations in the form of FEELING so much better, developing a different outlook about many things... Stick with it, OK? Come on over to the AF Army and BoozeBusters! We have a very good time.

Hi Melmo, Welcome: I, too, had gastric bypass surgery, back in 2001. I did not drink for a very long time, but gradually starting drinking occasionally, which led to more and more; and red wine is my poison, also. But, I will pretty much drink anything. Basically traded one addiction for another. I have kept my weight off, and am now working the MWO program. Very hopeful that I can moderate, but if I can't, abstinence will be in my future. Good luck to you. I am on day 2 of AF. Took all the supplements and started topamax yesterday. No cravings at all. If I can conquer the insomnia thing, I will be a happy camper. Kay

                                Hi Flower!

This is my first thread :new: and i really related to your post. I'm a brit who has to have a bottle (or more) of chardonay each night. I'm also at the age where i want to try for a baby (I'm 30). Problem is nothing seems to matter that much when the 1st glass goes down! Unfortunatley my other half drink too, which makes it harder to be strong. We both gave up for nearly a year but weakened about 18 months ago. I don't think I've had a drink free day since. I'm glad I found this site today, everybody seems great. It gives me hope that I'll soon have the strengh to try gain. Hope to see yu on here again soon Xx
