Wine is mine too! Pinot Grigio my fav poison! Never drank til bored in late 30's either, funny, had a wildly competitive job as a pharm. sales rep, with everything centered around cocktail parties, travels, golf tourneys, etc., and never over-indulged. Quit to stay home more for kids, and was bored, no goals, no pats on the back, went from one extreme to the other! Anyway, this is the best site ever, has saved my life, its a struggle, and you never, ever get it right the first, or even second time, but at least you know now, that there's others, and that you don't want to keep on keeping on, and we are all just sick and tired of being sick and tired! The best thing that has helped me with the extra fluff the wine puts on, and having had surgical menopause for cancer, I'm a-ok now, was to change the routine, at the time when I usually popped the cork, I headed for the gym, or out for a long walk, anything to change the "habit".... I make hubby take his clothes and meet me, so he doesn't just walk in, we sit down with a bottle opened, and talk about the day, and keep on drinking...this way, at the very least, we start our first glass later, and the endorphins are uplifting, so it helps to not want to dull it so much, and to know if you don't, you'll wake up feeling better the next day....just try to mix up your routine....I live in the middle of 27 acres, and no neighbors, 40 mins to the town where all my friends are, or 11 miles to our farm to kiss the horses, so I know how "isolation" is a big trigger....just get up and go to Barnes and Nobles, or for a long drive, or anywhere to get outta the house! Sign up for a course on something you are interested in, a few evenings a night.....something, anything than just sitting and drinking....gotta make a new "normal" routine.....does that make any sense? I'm doing lots better, and the work-outs help the fluff, but I still over-indulge on the Santa Margarita now and then, so I'd love to just be AF....that's my goal too..... We'll do it together!

Hello all you wine lovers. Hello Toughintexas, My poison of choice has been Pinot Grigio. Great advise on the changing of routine and finding an evening hobby. What starts of innocent enough as a cocktail after work had totally escalated for me over the past 8 years. I am going 30 days dry again and hopefully more. Still looking for that hobby. Thanks again.

I too love to drink wine, Pino Grigio is my fav. I have been taking the supplements for a month and 25 of the Topomax for 2 weeks and am down to drinking a couple of glasses a week. Last night I made a bad choice and drank 3 glasses and it hit hard and I feel terrible today. This is my first day to participate on the website so I am excited to get some support. You will feel much better when you wake up and did not drink the night before. You will lose weight from not having the wine and the Topomax helps with that too.

Hi ToughinTexas,
I too am a Pino Grigio drinker living in Austin. I am in the medical field. This is my first day to post. I agree about changing the routine; it is so easy for me to come home and pop that cork before I even change clothes. I have been making it 5-6 days then I break down and have a glass but last night I had 3 and did not feel so good today. I am excited to be a part of this group.

Big Wino here too - Cab or Chardonnay are my favs. If it is not around, I wont drink. If it is, it's GONE. I am starting all over again. But like many others have said, I will NEVER stop trying to beat this thing. It's hard, but you can do it! This last pregnancy, I had a hard time conceiving so I went AF and went totally healthy for months...Also, I have had three girls - each time I even vaguely suspected I was preggo, I stopped cold turkey. If I was pregnant, I stayed AF for at least 8 months after I gave birth. It will work for you too, just relax and cut down or better yet, stop altogether. Unfortunately some switch flipped on in this wino cranium of mine and made me think it was OK to start up again. My youngest is 18 months and I am really struggling this time. Keep positive and know you have friends here."All that we are is a result of what we have thought" Buddah:heart:

Wine was usually my choice, partly because that's what was in the wine cellar. We used to keep a few mixers in a cupboard, but gradually I drained them all. This time of year it was burbon in apple cider -yum! I frequently hid a bottle of vodka to mix with anything. But I've come a long way from that through the MWO group therapy. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.
