Hi, I'm brand new here
and scared to death. But excited that I'm actually acknowedging my problems. Here's the thing, alcohol is not my only problem. I also have a dependence on pain meds for an old injury, you know the story. I am very high functioning ( but I don't fool myself), in that I only allow myself one pain pill a day. Mainly out of fear that the withdrawals will be awful if I stop. But then at night, theres the wine. I love it. There I said it. I really want to be able to have ONE glass, and be done with it. I saw this program and I'm excited about it. I am going to order all the books, cd's etc. I'd also like to try the Topomax but don't want to go to the doctor about it. Also, will it still work if you have any pain meds in your body? Please dont judge. Thanks!Tags: None

Hi, I'm brand new here
Hi fitness,
No judging here, just lots of support. That is the beauty of this place. Can't really speak to the pain med/ topamax interaction. Someone will address that. Just wanted to say welcome and feel free to speak openly. Read and post alot. Sounds like you are off to a great start with the book and CD's. :h"It wasn't all I wanted, but all I could stand!":bigwink: Alcohol free since April 8, 2008

Hi, I'm brand new here
Hi Fitness,
Yip, no judging here but maybe a little bit of tough love. I hope that you change your mind about seeing a Doctor if you do want to go the Topa route - it can be dangerous to mix medications.
Reading the book is the start to a wonderful journey...

Hi, I'm brand new here
Fitness, glad you ordered the book. That should give you a lot more information in terms of reducing the amount you drink vs quitting all together. As you will see when reading the posts on this site, some are able to moderate, some are not - but you will be the ultimate judge of that.Sobriety Date: June 15, 2007 -- "It's not having what you want, It's wanting what you've got...."

Hi, I'm brand new here
Hello and Welcome
I am not sure how Topa and painkillers interact, but you could Google it. I would like to go on Topa myself, but am waiting to get some health insurance. I am afraid to do it without medical supervision. I know first hand about withdrawal from painkillers. It is Awful!!! I am very happy to be free of that. Come to think of it, I have pretty much done withdrawal from everything. As they say, some are sicker than others (meaning me). I am glad that you are here. Lots of great advice, support, and a few laughs along the way."Decide-Which Voice in Your Head you Can Keep Alive" (Shinedown)

Hi, I'm brand new here
Hey fitness, from one wino to another, welcome! :l
I, too, have struggled with pain meds and can only say you are very smart by reading the book. The supplements and CDs are so very helpful I can't even begin to explain.

Hi, I'm brand new here
Hi there
Pain meds are a bitch; they've been a part of my life for so long. As I said, i'm extremely moderate, but still, its an addiction and I know it. How did you get free from them? Were you off meds when you stopped drinking too?

Hi, I'm brand new here
Hi fitness,
I'm afraid I can't add much to the pain med dilemma. But it seems to me, once you read RJ's book, that part of getting off the sauce is getting your body in good shape. With meds and AL, our normal systems get all out of whack. In order to conquer the AL beast, we need to start being good to our bodies with healthy diet, exercise and healthy thoughts that don't focus on the next glass of wine!! If you can, I'd see your Dr. and get his/her help getting off the pain meds. It's a big step, I'm sure, but it will always be the elephant in the room as you work toward sobriety. We're all in your corner. Your story is our story. No better time than the present to confront your demons. Looking forward to hearing from you!
