    Not really a big revelation...

But EATING really helps when you feel like you want a drink...

So, I was sitting around thinking about buying some wine this morning, when I realized I had a couple hours to kill before I could buy any. Realized I was hungry and made nice, big breakfast!

After eating, I'm now not as interested in drinking.

I definitely think the urge to drink is tied to low blood sugar, as some have pointed out.

Have a good Sunday!! I'm going for AF now.

You are right Savon. That is the first thing I do with a craving. Eat. Then if that doesnt work I sleep if that is an option.
    Good going!

It's so true! And I am SO bad about eating. I think I got into such a bad habit of getting all my calories from wine. And living alone, it's just not inspiring to cook for one.

      Thanks for the reminder Savon!

Oh yes.. I can relate to this.
Only this morning I had an urge to pop across to my shop for a bottle of wine, so I grilled some potato waffles instead... with brown sauce.. yum, took my mind (temporarily) off the wine and just fancied an orange juice instead

          Good point Savon!

You are dead on. I've found a cranberry "health" mix in the produce dept. at the grocery store. It's various nuts, raisins, dried cranberries, etc. When I get home from work, I put some in a small dish and that gives me the instant carbs that helps turn off the wine prompter. Good for you for the Sunday save! As I mentioned on the ODAT thread, it's amazing how intuitive, inventive and observant we become when we're not crowding our little brains with thoughts of the next drink . . .

What works for me is to get out my big kitchen knife and start chopping onions, garlic, celery, peppers and get them cooking in olive oil.The chopping helps release frustration, the wonderful smell of the veggies cooking make the house feel cozy. Many times hubby has walked in and asked what i was cooking...I have NO IDEA but there are tons of things you can create from that base.By the time I have done that, the craving has past.

Coca Cola, not the diet stuff... works for me... for the same reason- low blood sugar.

My office mates laugh when they hear the can hiss open some mornings at 9:30!!! The caffeine, sugar and bubbles makes it work FAST and fill me up. It's kinda my Red Bull ( which is just yucky!) or my Starbucks, ( I am not a big coffee drinker)..................... but it takes alot of 'edges' off!

I learned in treatment to watch for these four triggers: H-Hungry A-Angry L-Lonely T-Tired. These used the acronym HALT and said that when you have a craving to ask yourself, am I hungry, angry, lonely or tired, and if so, to rectify the situation and the craving should pass. Good for you Savon. Always nice to see you on the boards.
