    alcohol withdrawl seizure-Genetic??

Sooo, I first visited you all quite a few months ago. Hubby and I are still drinking, but I think I'm finally seeing the light. I'm tired of being so tired all the time and tired of living the life that I've been living.

My question is this---- My brother has had (I'm HOPING past tense, like I'm one to talk!!) a drinking problem. Just spent 45 days in jail for a DUI (wonderful new AZ DUI laws). He's had a seizures in the last year or so, and the general agreement among the family is that they all seem to be alcohol related. Every time he's had a seizure (2 times in the last 6 months), its happened when he's been without alcohol for about 5 days.

Sooo, IF this is the case, is this condition hereditary? I have not gone more than a day or 2 without drinking in the last 2 years. I have gone 100% cold turkey in the past when I was pregnant. What are the chances that seizures are something that will effect me as well? I'm sure, sub-conciously, it's been an excuse to keep drinking. Yet I REALLY am tired of it and am totally ready to live a "normal" life. This is just something sticking in the back of my mind that I can't shake. What if i have a seizure while I'm driving to work and I get in to an accident?????

Hi there kids and welcome again to mwo. Stick with us and im sure you will find alot of help.
I too worry about drinking being hereditary. My mother drank alot, and i became a fully blown alcoholic. I have an 8 year old daughter that i worry will grow up a drinker. I had a good chat with my counceller about this issue, and she said that it is as much what you see in your life when your growing up. If you see a member of the family who is a heavy drinker, it gets inbedded in you and becomes the norm. I started drinking wine at a very young age, and wonder if it is because of what i saw and lived with.
Stay, post and read. come for a chat on the AF army thread. Take care

I think the risk of seizures depends purely on how much you've been drinking on a daily basis.
