How are you all doing. I have been following a program on channel 4 at 9.30am, in the uk. It is following three people with different addictions, 1 prescription drugs, 1 crack cocaine and 1 alcohol. All three, 2 women and 1 man have been admitted to a specialised re-hab unit and are having supervised treatment to get them off their addictions. They are being filmed 24/7, and are being monitored by fully qualified medic staff and psychiatrists. It is heart rending stuff, watching them go through their withdrawal symptoms, although they have been given medication to help with the withdrawal symptoms, and watching them talk through their reasons for getting addicted in the 1 st place. The young woman had a very sad, and abused childhood, and has been on every drug there is since she was 14 yrs old, and was introduced to crack cocaine by her boyfriend.
The older woman had been prescribed diazepam 30 yrs ago whilst going through a messy divorce, and suffered with terrible anxiety and panic attacks.
The oldest man had been involved in an accident years ago and had become dependent on drinking over 200 units in 1 week. He started the day having a glass of vodka, having 5 pints at lunch time and then finishing the rest of the day drinking a bottle of vodka or more. His family were besides themselves and his wife said that this was her husbands last chance as she couldn't cope any more.
It is very sad watching their torture and you can relate to how they feel and how they got in the position that they are in. The poor man is going to be told tomorrow that unless he stops drinking he is going to die. I hope you can watch this program as it brings home to you just how lucky you are if you can escape the demon addictions so many of us have.
Take care all.
