    I'm New

Hello everyone, my name is Chris and I just received a percription for Campral today and plan to start taking it in the morning. I have been a heavy drinker for about the last 15 years. My drinking started out just drinking weekends and soon graduated to everyday after work and then at about age 25 I took a job working nights, this opened up a whole new world of drinking which was drinking in the morning. It has gotten to the point where nothing seems out of bounds, If I start drinking at ten in the morning on sunday and pass out at 7 pm and wake up at 1 am I'll start drinking so I can get back to sleep. I just hope the campral works. I'm worried about getting to sleep, getting enough rest so I can drive, I'm worried about idle time. It seems that most or all of my off time has drinking involved in it, It just seems that drinking is just to big a part of my life. Anyway I look foward to getting to meet some new people and take from this what I can.

Hi there Cdough, welcome to you! I havent taken campral but I know some have had much success with it. Have you read the book? That might help give you some inspiration and form a plan. I find the supplements help my cravings as well as the support here. It is scary to make a life change but it is possible and can even be fun )
            Good luck

              Hi & :welcome:to MWO .............

This place is brilliant, I was where you are 2 and a half years ago, I wont say that it is easy and the first few nights you probably wont sleep very well, but like others have said, download the book, try to relax and you will get through.

A wise man on here called Chief once said that withdrawal is like having the flu, just treat it as that and it will pass .........

All the best to you in your journey ........

CD, welcome, and remember that your goal to get off the alcohol will probably require more than just taking the campral. I'd suggest you read the MWO book, look at all the components of the program, and spend some time here reading the threads, posting, and asking questions! Come up with a good plan of attack, maintain a strong commitment to succeed, and be persistent! You've taken the first steps, so I have no doubt you can take the others, as well!

                  best wishes,

                    Hi Chris and Welcome! :welcome:

I also used to work nights- I would be sitting in a bar at 8am pissed on beer while everyone else was on their way to work.

Please stick around and let us know how you get on with the Campral.

Hi Chris, and :welcome: to the forum

I can totally relate to the gradual increase of drinking time. What started out as "ah, it's gone 6pm, its 'acceptable' to have a drink now" soon escalated into "what the f***, its 10am... who cares?" situation.
Ive learned from people here that the more time you have on your hands, the more susceptible you are to using that as 'drinking time'. I think the key is to keep yourself busy... what didyou enjoy doing before the alcohol took hold? Any hobbies? Might be an idea to take up something new to get stuck into... the less time we have to sit and drink - the more time we have to LIVE.

                      Take Care, and Keep Posting
                      Luv,
                      C

                            Hi Chris
Welcome to MWO. I am also a night shift worker. I have been for 13 years. How much does it suck to be at the checkout with beer at 8am when everyone else is grabbing coffee? I alway felt compelled to let the clerk know that I had just gotten out of work. My doctor said that she has see some sucess with the Campral. I have not tried it yet, but I may. Look forward to having you aboard. BTW, Do you expect to go through withdrawal? It can be dangerous, so stay close. There are others here, including myself, who have been through dangerous withdrawal. Please keep us updated.
