But you know what. The joy of having my body back, and my time back, and not hiding in a cave or being perpetually depressed is worth a whole lot more than all the wine in the world.
Boss.man --- what you said here really hit home with me! I am so depressed after I've been drinking ... and today I feel just like hiding in a cave. I will keep this in mind when I want to overindulge .... I've got to crawl out of the cave and start living again.

            Hello I'm New Here

I have abstained a few times this year, firstly while going through an emotional crisis, then while recovering from an op and then a big AF April (30 days), this was followed by 2-3 AF's a week and now am right back to 1 bottle a day. Am still not over emotional crisis and find drinking blocks out the feelings but am sure not drinking would be a better way to go - just need great motivation!! Please help!

              Hello I'm New Here

OK, yes, you do "need great motivation" ... We all do, right? I wish it came in a pill, or something, but of course it doesn't. You have to find it within yourself. For starters, how about drawing on your recognition, that you expressed today, that you are "so depressed" when you have been drinking? And then moving on, perhaps, to other reasons (of your own) as to what alcohol takes away from you? There are some good threads around here somewhere about "what we hate about alcohol..." if you look around, at other people's posts, you will likely see many things that remind you why you might want to quit drinking!

But, when all is said and done, it has to come from within you.

              best wishes,

              wip

                      Hello I'm New Here

                      Hi MargieRose

I have made that mistake twice- did 30 days AF (not recently I might add) then went back to drinking- thingking I could mod and being right back where i was in no time.

I am now striving for that place where I simply 'Do not want to drink'- because I have far far better things to do.

Keep reading and posting- there is lots of wisdom in these threads

                        Hello I'm New Here

                        Welcome Margierose and Chacha,

As WIP said so well, the motivation ultimately has to come from within you. Once you're completely honest with yourself and decide that AL has way too much power and say-so in your life, you'll be well on your way to overcoming the beast. I'll also suggest you read Periwinkle's post in "Just Starting Out" titled "Roberta's recipe." It's a frank take on the MWO program and so well said. We'll hold you hand every step of the way!
