A Safe Place for those of us still drinking to post.

REALLY? Yikes. Doggie grazed on the neighbor's scuppernogs (sp?) along the fence to the point of standing on her back legs to reach. I did see one big barf of a lot of skins. She never seemed sick, though. I guess they fall into the grape category right?

Ha! If I knew what they were I'd answer!! I won't hijack the thread but here is one part of an article:

      Why are grapes harmful?

As far as grapes and raisins go, no one is sure why they're harmful. It's been confirmed that even grapes grown without fertilizers or pesticides can be toxic to dogs. But not to every dog, and not every time. It's also not known whether small amounts eaten over a long time period could have a cumulative effect.

What we do know is that the end result in nearly all reported cases of grape or raisin toxicity is acute kidney failure. (The term "acute" means that the condition is severe and comes on quickly.) The dog ultimately can't produce urine, which means they can't filter toxins out of their systems -- a process essential to life.

During the twelve-month period in which the effects of grapes were studied, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center handled 140 cases involving one or more dogs. Over a third of the dogs developed symptoms ranging from vomiting to kidney failure, and seven dogs died. The ASPCA based their study on reported cases, so naturally there may be cases where a dogs health is entirely unaffected by eating grapes. But until they know all the facts, the Society advises against feeding pets grapes or raisins in any amount.

        Wow... I never knew that
My dogs go wild for them... Maybe that's why Ive had problems with Casey. I mean, I dont feed them grapes all the time, but when they're sitting there staring at me munching them, then i cant resist throwing the odd couple to them... if anything, just to see them scamper and scrabble about after them.. looks so funny.... cos the grapes usually roll around around under the table and all I see is a pair of back legs sticking out, while they're searching for them, lol.
Will definitely be stopping that now though, so Thanks Dolly for the info.
?I am playing all the right notes... But not necessarily in the right order.....?

I understand mine used to catch them if I threw them. I switched to baby carrots and they seem to like them

Chocolate can also be very bad for dogs. You're right, Dolly, baby carrots are really good treats for dogs, given in moderation. My 12-year-old baby just died from kidney failure and the vet strongly recommended the carrots for our other dog.

You can give him 'Rollover'....also can be used for training. It comes in a tube and you can cut it up. Hmmm.....now that I think of it, maybe you don't have Rollover over the ocean there?????

One - I too have a shih tzu but he's a year and a half already.....we have other dogs too so we always have treats on hand, breaks up the dry food routine as well. Also, I have been giving him Angel Eyes (you can order on -line) for the tearing normal for shih tzu's - has worked wonders!

And Chelle, glad to see you back, sometimes it only takes one person to say one bad thing to set you off, trust me, I know, this weekend it was my daughter...and yes, i did end up drinking this weekend, not going out but just sitting by myself watching tv, not even the new tv I just bought!!! Well, its another day so we shall see where it takes me/us.

One, I get mine from FitFuel.com - Nutritional Supplements, Organic Foods, Fitness Apparel, Sporting, Anti-Aging - they run specials with no shipping charges. or you can also order from Amazon.com which offers free shipping over $25. I am in the states though so i don't know what charges would pertain to you...i just know that i found a product that actually works....and he gets a little treat at night because its a powder and i sprinkle it on a little can dog food....hope this helps. I love him dearly, he loves playing with the other bigger dogs and he is a little sh*** at times.....my kids dressed him up as a pirate for halloween

Grapes - i used to let my springer spaniel eat 1 or 2 every now and then and then I also read where grapes are not good for dogs so i don't let her have them anymore....she used to take them and throw then up in the air and then roll on them more than she would eat them....she does the same thing with carrots now too!!!

I did not know about grapes but I have read that avocado is poisonous to them.

Mine aren't interested in fruit too much apart from my cocker who will eat anything- he loves to catch the bits that fall down when I make smoothies.

Will have to be careful in future.

Hey all. I just got my antabuse today. Woo-Hoo!! I'm gonna start it on Wednesday. (Hubby has 7 days off starting Wednesday). Yes, I'm drinking right now..hence the thread. Gonna give myself a full 24 to start. Thanks Chelle for the antabuse advice, and for forgiving me. LTG, I hope you forgive me to. I was a jack-ass talking. hehe!! Wish me luck, guys. I know what I'm going into with the antabuse, and have warned all my family of my mood from withdrawals.
