    Help

Autumn, you can start a new thread anytime you want, and people will see it when they check for new posts, and they may or may not reply. As to live chat, there are sometimes no people at all in there, sometimes several. You can post a thread with the title "chat?" if you want to invite people to go into live chat with you.

If you have specific questions, just post a new thread and ask them. Then wait to get answers! And give it a while, it might not be a matter of instant results. If nobody answers, try again!

    Does that help?

            Help

Hey Autumn - sleep is a huge issue for me too. I swear I didn't sleep for 3 weeks last spring!! If you stay AF, it will get better. Really!! Just gotta learn to sleep, not pass out. I found the hypno CD's helped me with that, the subliminal one and the sleep learning - sort of lulled me to sleep. Have you got the CD's or thought about getting them?? They really are helpful to some, not so much to others, but I love the sound of waves and seagulls, which is why I like to fall asleep to them, with some calmes or melatonin to help me.
Best to you - hang on. We are all here for you in this not-so-easy battle!

              Help

              Hi Peanut:

I am new to this program and took some of the calmes last night. Today when I went to work I was nodding off all day. Of course I am sure that it did not help that I was drinking last night. Today I took the Kudzu Rescue and wondered if that was doing it. I usually do not nod off at work even when I drink heavily.

              Thanks for your help.

                Help

Hi Autumn, I have problems with sleeping too. If Im drinking, then its more a case of passing out and not actually proper sleep... and if im sober, then Im waking up in cold sweats and having surreal dreams.
Im thinking of buying some hypno cd's too... I quite like the idea of going to sleep with soothing sounds to accompany me,rather than watching the ceiling spin
?I am playing all the right notes... But not necessarily in the right order.....?

                    Help

                    Hi Autumn,
I didn't mind the sleep issue too much when I first went AF since it was so much easier to be tired than hungover. But I would definitely suggest getting a bottle of melatonin. I take that at night with one or two calms forte and -poof- next thing I know it's morning! It's cheap, about $8 and very well worth it. Best wishes to you!:l

                        Help

Hi Autumn: You are talking to the insomnia queen. I have suffered with it for years and thought it was menopause or an inherited condition from my mother. Menopause might have played a role, but I now believe alcohol is the major culprit. I have tried every product out there both prescription and OTC. I am finally sleeping pretty well. For me, that is going to sleep about 11:30 pm (although I have been going to sleep much earlier lately), getting up to pee during the night, going back to sleep and getting up between 5:00 and 6:00. Before I would wake up at 3:00 and that was it. I was up for the duration. It was horrible!

What has worked for me: 50mg Topamax during the evening, magnesium/calcium/zinc about 45 minutes before bedtime (I never knew this worked until recently), Calms Forte (two), and sometimes melatonin before bed. I listen to the sleep learning cd at night and the other cd's during the day when I can. My husband actually found me asleep on the couch yesterday when he came home from work. I had listened to the hypnotic cd on my MP4 player and zonked out. The only way he ever found me asleep before was after I had downed a couple of bottles of wine. In fact he asked me if I had been drinking.

Good luck on your journey. You've come to the right place. The sleep issue was a huge one for me. I still have occasional night sweats, but nothing like before. Probably hormonal. Hopefully, I still have a few hormones. Kay

                          Help

Interesting about the mag/calc/zinc combo to help with sleep. Wonder what it does?!?! I have always thought that the insomnia problem just runs in my family - but really, after 3 weeks AF I had been able to fall asleep again. Besides, most of my siblings have a problem with sleep, and most of my siblilngs drink - so, nature vs nurture????

Welcome LostinTexas - Not sure that the Kudzu would make you sleepy. When I was taking it daily (which I think I will start doing again), there was so much else being taken that the effects of each got rather confounded. I know the calmes forte alone never helped with getting me to fall asleep, but the melatonin does, although I tend to be quite drowsy the next day when I take it.

River makes a good point - better to be tired from lack of sleep, rather than hung-over. I know I had both usually, as I stay up pretty late when drinking, thus my goal to not drink on work nights. I've been moderately successful, although there is still usually one night during the week that I end up drinking wine. I am still working towards changing that - and this week I am trying again. It seems to be a never ending battle for me!!

                            Help

I am not sure whether or not I gave you a proper welcome Autumn. I have been having a bit of trouble keeping up lately. Welcome aboard. I too take the Calms Forte. It help me with anxiety. I have tons of anxiety which led me to the heavy drinking. A form of self-medication that turned on me viciously and gave me more anxiety than ever!!! I did not sleep well in the first couple of weeks off of AL, but I agree with River; it was way better to be tired than hungover. Best wishes as you begin your journey.

                              Help

Hi Peanut: Recently did a search on supplements that help with insomnia. Came across the magnesium/calcium thing. Then noticed in Roberta's book she recommended magnesium/calcium as one of the supps, but didn't mention why. So I added it. I have osteoporosis and figured it couldn't hurt. Kay
