    AF vs. Mod. (kinda long)

    Welcome to MWO Chi,

You've received some excellent posts here. Both Hippie and Nancy have delivered their usual, thoughtful perspectives. Sunbeam was spot on - first things first. Before you decide to moderate or give up the drink, get on the MWO program and give that first 30 days of abstinence a whirl. Take BF out of the equation at least initially, and concentrate on you and getting sober. Much can change in that first 30 days. You will discover the extra hours Hippie mentioned, probably lose a few pounds without the empty AL calories, and start to feel better about yourself. We'll be here with you all the way. Get started today, and let the other aspects - future decisions and the bf - take the sideline for the time being. Good luck to you.

"Those 60 days AF were detremental to my journey.... 90 days would have been better but I am well chuffed with 60."

Just wanted to comment here: pretty sure Deebee meant to say INSTRUMENTAL not detrimental here. Right DeeBee??

Welcome Chi--you have gotten some great advice here. Hope you stay with us!

I definitely want to do the 30 days AF. I know it would make me feel a lot better about myself. I am afraid of failing, though. I know that's no good reason not to try, but it really scares me. Right now, it feels impossible.

I'm also worried about what I'll do until my Topamax and supplements from the site get here. I should get the supplements this week (like I said, I already got some Kudzu and L-Glutamine from a local shop in the meantime), but the pharmacy site says I likely won't get the Topamax until sometime in the first two weeks of November!

Edited to add that I went to the gym today for the first time in months (despite reallllly not being motivated to do so) and am feeling really good and relaxed right now. I think I'm going to go take a bubble bath when I'm done here.

good for you chiizus, going to the gym! I think a bath sound great too.

It may seem like an eternity for the topamax but I think a lot of us have had good results with the kudzu and L-glut while waiting. I highly recommend the book as well. I believe the cds are an awesome tool too.

None of the tools of this program are a majic button, you have to want this. It sounds like you do. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Bf actually said some really sweet things last night. I think he realizes that a lot of my drinking issues stem from depression and stress, so he suggested that in addition to going to the gym regularly and everything else I'm doing, he wants me to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure every couple of weeks, and waxing if I want so that I'll feel better about myself. I thought that was a sweet suggestion. It's nice to know that he's at least trying to be supportive, even if it's hard for him. Just hearing him say that made me feel a lot better. Feeling like someone cares is really motivating.
