My first time -- still drinking

Hi, Manny! Hope you come back today to read all the posts to you. We are a very diverse group, people who under other circumstances would NEVER have come in contact. That's the only GOOD thing that has happened in our journey with AL, and that journey has brought us all here. We're a big, crazy, loving, wise, family, with young ones and old ones and eveyone in between. I'm here because I'm in the fight of my life. In 3 months I have fallen in love with this place, and these people, and some I hope will be my friends for life. You have a lot of issues. So do I right now, very serious ones. But when I can't stand my own mind another moment, I come here, unload, and the response is sweet but strong, swift but true, and always given with love. So many of us are alone with our drink, shutting out the world, but here we can tell everything. The big, bad men here can cry. We can talk about prayer without offending those who don't have the same beliefs, because we're not trying to convert anyone to a religion. We do know we need a higher power, as has been said, to win this battle every day, because this journey does not have a destination. For many, the higher power is the group. Welcome again, Manny. Stay with us a while. It can't hurt, and maybe it can be the beginning of your answer.

          Welcome

          Hi Manny,

:welcome: and I too, agree that AA was not for me, that's not say that it's doesn't work for some people. For me it wasn't the whole "God" thing that bothered me but the people (too pushy) and MWO is what works for me. Sadly enough because of my drinking, I have come to terms that I may never get that opportunity to have children. I am 39 years old and well it doesn't look like it's going to be in my life's game plan, however, you never know woman these days are having them in their 40's. Anywho, that's another story..... But I can somewhat understand you not wanting to jeopardize your family life and maybe that can be your inspiration.

:goodjob: for stepping up to the plate and like someone advised keep posting and find what you can do help you.

          Big hugs,
          Janet

Welcome Manny I am a new member too- 3 weeks today! and 3 weeks AF
I could not of done it without MWO. I am (or was) a closet drinker, and would also get "caught" by my husband. And I did the same thing, numbed the embarassment and pain with my drink of choice. I hit rock bottom 3 weeks ago- and knew that I did not want to loose to the "beast" that is waiting right behind us waiting to drop our guard. So when you decide to face the beast- be prepared for a bit of a bumpy ride the first few days- The hangover, guilt and your body cravings. If you have a hard time- break up your first days into increments- cut the 1st days up- 1/2 day at a time, and if that doesnt work- take it an hour at a time. I promise it will do nothing but get better each day. I am 3 weeks into relying on my friends at this sight. Your already on your way- you have admitted that you have a problem, and you found this sight. We are here- ready to supply the support that you need to start your new future:welcome:

Sobriety since October 2008 ( with a few bumps in the road ) - but I am still here, strong and fighting every day for my sobriety!
And every day is a challenge - But I am WINNING so far!

Manny, many here already know, I am the wife. The one at the breaking point. I am not a religious person and the only time I spoke to God was out of despair, making deals with God to help my husband. Regardless of my own disbelief I was willing to go to Church with him to help him. Your wife finds you with beer and I found my husband in many places, many times with beer, vodka and both. I know what she is going through.
I suggest she reads "Co-Dependent no More" a great book to help the ones who live with family members addicted to AL. Good luck, we are here to help and seek help

Dee. Aussie chocolate's?....not a big choccy expert, but, aren't they supposed to come from Belgium or somewhere?..(Mind you, i did do a tour of a chocalate factory in Tasmania as a school kid..different smells at different levels of processing. but of no interest to me, but love a cherry ripe/mars bar now and then).
