For all out there afraid to go to your doctor...JUST DO IT!

That must have been one of the hardest things you've ever had to do. Good for you on taking that step - I am so proud of you!

      :new:
Thanks so much for your story, helpahol. Well done!! I am facing this very dilemma today. I woke up this morning feeling particularly terrible and have been on the net searching for answers all day. I found the MWO site, and think I have the strength and courage to get past this debilitating behaviour. I know that I need to go to my GP for help, but have hesitated because I have a high profile position (big stress) in a small city where everyone knows everything that happens. Your post has helped me get over myself a bit and I will make an appointment as soon as the doc opens tomorrow. I hope sheis as helpful as yours. cheers and thanks again.

        Mr Darcy,

from one kiwi to another, and understanding the small town mentality of NZ , good on you!

I came here in June, and there are quite a few kiwis and aussies on here. I can totally understand your concerns. This site is a place where you can be as anonymous as you want to be without fearing that your issues will hit Morning Report! I so felt for the Commerce Commission person who hit the news recently. (For non-NZers: in a small country, a front page news item was about a high profile person who has recently taken time off to deal with "alcohol related health issues")

This is a great place to get support - and good luck in your quest with your GP. I have to day that I have had nothing but a positive reaction from my GP - think most medical people here are now aware of how dysfunctional our cultural drinking patterns are.

Lots of the suggestions for supplements and meds on this site can be got in NZ - but some cant! (mainly kudzu - seems to be only available in one pharmacy in Glenfield!! And I'm public service brigade in Wgtn!) PM me if you want more info!

I really wish you well - it is worth it!!!!!

Thanks for the support Aunty Mame. I am just starting so need all the help I can get. I have taken a break from work for a couple of weeks to get a start before the end of year hits. It is just good to know that I am not a bad person and can get my life back on track. Have a doc appointment for next week. Fingers crossed!!

I think you may have just inspired me to schedule an appt. with my GP... something that I've been avoiding b/c 1) I hate admitting my problems, and 2) I worry that he'll take the MWO method as a grain of salt. But I guess you don't know until you go for it.

Yes Chiizus. What do we have to lose really? We can ignore the doc who disputes our choice or get one who understands that we have to do it our way with their guidance and monitoring to have a chance at success.
I have been reading some of the posts and it seems I am one of the lucky people if all I have to worry about is losing my job and people finding out. My family is proud of me for doing this - trying the program and hopefully cleaning up my act. My darling told me so this morning.
Gather your best allies around you I say!! Let us know what your doc says Chiizus. Interesting to see how affected attitudes of medical staff are by outmoded social conditioning.
              Have a sunny day!
