    when to start?

:new: I have just read 'my way out' from cover to cover in one sitting! I have been straight on the net and ordered my cd's and tabs, do i have to wait until they arrive for best results or can i start on monday 3rd NOV without them and hope for the best???. My goal is to be like Brenda in the book, a moderate drinker who can say 'no'. I can have 3 afns per week but do not enjoy those days the same as when i have my fix of chilled whhte wine. I want to have it like butter!! I do not want to be thinking about wine all the time! I think i am at the early stages but can identify with a lot in the book so need to take action now! Advice and support most welcome.

    Cheers!

    when to start?

Welcome to MWO, and no you certainly don't need to wait until everything arrives to get started. The supps and CD's are certainly very helpful, but you will find that a positive mental outlook on your program is an essential requirement.

I would encourage you to be open with yourself about your drinking, and make sure to set realistic goals for yourself. I know that one of your goals is moderation and there are many here who do that, but there are others (like me) who have found they cannot moderate.

Take it one day at a time, and be sure to share with us how it is going.

Ps- May I ask Athelete, did you start by trying to moderate with the tablets etc or did you go straight for abstinence? Am worried now that I have bought all this stuff and perhaps PMA is all I need?

Hi KW, Welcome. I have been sober for just over 3 months now using this site for support and the supps Kudzu and LGlut. These have definitely helped me PLUS the PMA. Give yourself at least 30 days af time so you can evaluate how you feel about your drinking and take it from there. You have found a good place here, keep posting.

            when to start?

            Hi KW,

LOL, your post is almost identical to my very first post! I was waiting for month end to go and buy the supps, then I had them, then I was waiting for my Docs appointment to get the Topa. My first post I also asked do I need to have all my tools in the box before starting the program and the answer that I got was START TODAY!!

I started off moderating for 3 months and then I did 60 days AF and now I am mod again. BUT I do strongly suggest going AF for as long as possible before trying to mod. Ideally I would've liked to have done 90 days which I still hope to achieve.

Good suggestions from DB and AA and S.O. I would add this: be sure to be very clear on your goals. If you want to try to reduce your alcohol intake without a period of abstinence, that's OK, but make sure that you have clearly in mind what you are setting as your limits. There's a device here called Drink Tracker that can help a lot with that. Most people (including me) would say that it is important to get at least 30 and preferably more time AF before beginning a plan of moderation. You would find a number of threads that you could join that would be helpful if that is your goal. There is also a weekly thread in which there are people working on a goal of moderate drinking. The point, though, is to make a clear plan and commitment, then go for it! No better time, than today...

                Hi keepwalking!

I, too, read the book from cover to cover in one sitting and I, too, enjoy the white wine. I was drinking it nightly and blacking out before MWO. Being AF for a period of time is very important and I agree with everyone else, don't wait. You've already started your new wonderful journey :welcome:
