Confused................
Finally went to my Doctor about a month ago to confess my Lager Affliction, her response was a suprise to me, she really didnt think I have anything to worry about, she didnt seem bothered, nor concerned at all. She did point me in the direction of a group or a clinic place nearby, but she just made me feel that I was making somathing out of nothing.

Penny, that is unfortunately NOT an uncommon response from physicians. Many of them have little or no training in addiction and dependence; AND an unfortunate number of them are heavy drinkers, themselves.
So: I take it, possibly now you are confused as to whether or not you really have a problem? Or is it that you feel you need medical help, to get a prescription or get lab tests, but she is not helping you with that?

It is NOT a common response, actually. Maybe your doctor didn't hear you correctly. Or maybe your doctor was preoccupied about something else. This can happen.
I have NEVER heard about doctors dismissing the fact a person is drinking that much every night. I know a LOT of alcoholics and I have never heard that before.
We are not in the Roman Age where doctors are that under educated about this problem. I would go and see your doc again. If it really is a problem for you; then get your doctor to listen to you.... They are only human after all.

Thanks for your replies, I am from the UK, and generally drink Carling on an evening. the figures I quoted are the top top end figures, I probably average 6-8ish drinks per evening (not that that figure is acceptable either).
Anyhoo, Im ok actually, Ive tried cutting down my beer intake without the help of the Dr. Used L-Glut, Kudzu, Amino to try and knock the edge off the cravings, and Calm Tabs and Sleeping Tabs to knock me out at the end of an evening.
Hardest bit for me is sleeping thro the night, I seem to get a stupid fear of not being able to sleep, which in turn urges me to get a few beers from the fridge. Odd I know!!

Not odd at all Pen, lots of people feel exactly the same about sleeping. Also it does get better the longer you are without alcohol in your system.
The supps you are taking should help, thats what I take and it really does help craving
What would you like to achieve do you think? Do you want to stop drinking completely?Living now and not just existing since 9th July 2008
Nicotine Free since 6th February 2009

I find it odd that most drinkers actually don't bring up the drinking to doctors, trying to hide it - or completely lie and underestimate the amount that they actually consume. It's odd that you would be honest with your doctor, asking for obvious help and having them completely disregard the information. As accountable said - maybe the doctor was pre-occupied. OR Maybe the doctor drinks twice that much at night!!? Could happen...

I like nothing more than a few beers out with friends and I cant imagine cutting those out. For me, if I reduce my intake to goin out drinks on a Fri / Sat or Sunday and eliminate the TV Beers at home early in the week after work, I'd look at that as a good achievement.

The book does talk about giving your body a rest from alcohol for at least 30 days just to detox a bit, do you think you could do that to start?Living now and not just existing since 9th July 2008
