    Snow and Cold

We are now on Day 8 of our current "snowstorm". Woke today to 1" of new snow, with a prediction of 4-6" by Sunday.

This weather is very unusual here in Portland Oregon, a sea level city with a rainy temperate climate. I don't recall since the mid-1970s any stretch of more than 4 days of freezing weather. And we are on day 8 now, with more still to come.

I know in New England the first ice storm that cut power was 11 days ago. Yesterday's storm added more misery to those who still don't have power. How can you stand it?

And for you UK folks, I know from my historical reading that in the time of King Henry VIII winter was a season of ice and snow for three months a year in London. Dickens wrote of swirling snow. What do you think would happen if there was a two week snow in modern times?

I'm dreaming of a GREEN Christmas, just like the ones we usually have. It's not in the forecast.

    Snow and Cold

I grew up with snow so I just love it. It must be hard on towns and cities which don't have the proper equipment for snow removal, though. That I can't imagine.

For you, boss, I wish you the greenest Chrismast ever!

      Snow and Cold

I live in Southern Oregon. We have snow too! This is highly unusual to get snow before Christmas. Makes for a very festival holiday season. I am hopeful today because my daughter is moving back. I am so happy to have her come live with me while she pursuing other job prospects. I'm tired and lonely with living alone. She is flying in this afternoon. That's all for now......I was hoping someone would chat but at least I can post. My attendance at this site lately has been low but I'm still here and hopeful for the future.

and on that note... up here in Canada we have tons of snow. A bloody week long blizzard which is rare for us in Victoria! More to come. Much more to come from now until New Years!

SK - you guys have had quite a bit as well. We are being hit with the same arctic front.

A white Christmas rocks. It is so rare here. So I will shovel and shovel just to have the White Christmas!

I come from Yorkshire originally in the uk. Bronte land. Wuthering Heights and all that dark, morose thing. When it snows it snows. Fast, deep and blizzard. how wonderful. We once had really deep snow in May and it was really deep. I live in London now and never really see anything I would consider snow. It is like dust. Oh once but it was short lived for 12 hours if that and then it disappeared. Dickens may have witnessed snow as there were not airport terminals, and masses of traffic, not sure if it does affect, but I cannot understand why it never snows here in London.

Personally I love the snow. It is atmospheric and presents a silence which is weird. So lucky you. Mind you, how weird that the weather is changing. America seems to be hit by some freak weather lately. Storms, floods and now snow, apparantly it snowed in las vegas. Ah well. Enjoy it. Indeed I may move back to Yorkshire, purely cos I miss the climate. You can sing #im dreaming of a white christmas'......

                    Yorkshire!!

I'm from Leeds originally and am now an 'Englishman in New York'! I do not really miss the dark dank days of November and December, but I do miss everything else about this wonderful place. I'm on day ONE of taking the Supplements and I plan to slowly reduce reduce and reduce my 5-7 beers an evening habit that's kickin' my arse/health/mood/life etc etc. Of course coming from Yorkshire, I grew up drinking pints....that's real Pints ...not the 16 ounce American pints...and lots of them. Thinking back to my student days, most of my friends drank alcoholically like me...it was almost 'normal'...no wonder I've landed here!:new:

I imagine that if we had a week of snow here in britain, the country would come to a stand still. It usually does after a couple of days of heavy snow!

Oh..... I am so jealous of all of you who have snow! I've only experienced one white Christmas about ten years ago in North Carolina.

Savon..... I'm with ya here in Florida and its 76 degrees today! Running around in shorts and preparing Christmas dinner....LOL!
