This weather is very unusual here in Portland Oregon, a sea level city with a rainy temperate climate. I don't recall since the mid-1970s any stretch of more than 4 days of freezing weather. And we are on day 8 now, with more still to come.
I know in New England the first ice storm that cut power was 11 days ago. Yesterday's storm added more misery to those who still don't have power. How can you stand it?
And for you UK folks, I know from my historical reading that in the time of King Henry VIII winter was a season of ice and snow for three months a year in London. Dickens wrote of swirling snow. What do you think would happen if there was a two week snow in modern times?
I'm dreaming of a GREEN Christmas, just like the ones we usually have. It's not in the forecast.
