a woman (and mother) on the verge...

SC - It took me bloody YEARS to grasp the "first drink doing the damage" concept....Honestly, I am areasonably intelligent being, and I ALWAYS thought "Na - it's the fifth or twelfth" la la la la la! Picking up the phone, or jumping on the computer, is VITAL - I do it today - because I simply DO NOT WANT to be the drunken fool I become when I take that lethal first bloody drink. The phenomenon of craving ALWAYS develops, and I would literally rob a bank or a bottle store to satisfy it once it has begun.. GREAT to have you on board - Skinny DARLIN!!!

      Hi Skinny Cow and welcome.

I am and have been in the same boat as you. Also lots of times trying to quit and only managing 2-4 days.

I have been taking Antabuse for the past 12 days and it's made it a lot easier to quit (well no choice really!). I can only recomend it. It makes it much easier to focus your energy right because you are not constantly going through the fight in your head that a drink now wouldn't do too much harm now. You are simply taking the option of drinking away. and that for 5-14 days at a time.

Good luck with everything and don't forget you are not alone and there are lots of folks here going through the same. I have only recently joined here myself and no regrets.

      :welcome:

The journey is the goal. As long as you're fighting the good fight and you're not giving up on giving up, you're winning. It's not about how often you get knocked down, it's about how often you get up again. Sobriety the goal for sure. But striving to get to that goal is what it's about. Not getting there. Because the journey never ends. The journey is the goal.

Welcome Skinny and you just described my life as well. I am 38 and have 3 children from 6 to 3 and I so understand where you are coming from.

It's like a buzzer goes off in your head and the voice inside your head starts chanting to drink. No matter how you are feeling. So you drink the first and before you know it a whole bottle is gone in a very short period of time. Then the aftermath.....that is what has encouraged me to change.

Keep coming here and posting. Talking is so good.

I heard once on an Oprah show when they were talking about addiction that the brain goes into a 'go' state. I know that state so well. But to me, its like my brain actually shuts everything oout in order not to let me THINK. Because if i thought at all, I'd say this is nuts! who wants the misery!

Although I drank last night, there was a moment, and it really was the first moment i've had like this, where the good thoughts flashed in. as they say 'this too shall pass'

Wow, do I know that feeling! I would encourage you to load up on the supps/tools here (if you haven't already) to help your body and mind calm that raging fire...

            Best wishes to you. :l
