    PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

    Hi guys!
Back from my night out with my running pals. It was COLD!!!! Only ran 20 minutes and I froze my big toe on my left foot!!!! Boy is that painful to thaw out! Need to get winter running shoes. Otherwise i dressed well for it. But I'm glad to be home now, as it's -39 out there, -53 windchill - YUCK!!!! My daughter is back in Victoria and called me today to tell me get on a flight and get out there as it was sunny and 6C and green, and....... oh, why does she do this to me?!?!?!

I have been having wine cravings. I said to BF that I really felt like a glass of wine, and he jumped up to go get it for me from the store. No, I didn't say get me some wine, just that I felt like it! Wish he wouldn't do that, but part of me sort of wishes he had, BUT, I would feel like such a loser if I had given in. So, 2 O'doules instead and I feel fine!

So must go to bed soon. Thanks for the tips on the hypno cd's - maybe I will listen to sleep learning to go to sleep by. I find them quite soothing. As for supps, I have followed the program pretty much exactly, except I don't take the B50. Maybe I'll go do the L-glut under my tongue right now to get those visions of chardonnay out of my head!!

    Goodnight!!

      PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

New Day: Baclofen is a commonly described muscle relaxer. "Baclofen is a potent gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA B) receptor agonist clinically used to control spasticity."

This is info from a paper written by Dr. Olivier Ameisen. He has experimented on himself a high dose useage of Baclofen for his alcohol addition. He states "In alcohol dependent patients low dose Baclofen @ 30mg per day was shown to be effective in promoting abstinence, reducing alcohol craving and consumption w/ no limiting side effects.
Google The Dr. and I think it was in the Oxford Journals,

It's interesting and he recently has published a book. Now I do not know where I got the formula from that I am following, but my Dr. did allow me the script for a low dose Baclofen 5mg 3x per day, that I am using in conjunction with 50 mg Naltrexone. I do know from one of these threads, a study is being conducted at a university in the east coast of USA using this same formula. And I am experiencing good luck at not CRAVING!
Usually for me day nine is the day I fail. And today I am sailing through....anyway whatever it takes is good enough for me.

          PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

Hi guys. I am on day 5 sober. AF so I am pretty impressed so far. It is such a help to know you guys are all there and ready to lend some support. I only ever drank at night I would have 3 - 5 gins, large, then at least a bottle of wine. I am finding it helpful to throw a hand full of ice in a gin glass and have diet coke or tonic water. Is that cheating? Is it fattening.
I have not received the starter kit and book yet so I am just doing this because of you guys thus far.

          Cheers

            PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

Thanks for the info. on the supps you're taking, friends. Keep it coming! Yesterday I felt spacey in the morning, and I don't know which, if any, supp. caused that. Kudzu? Tryptophan? Tyrosine? I know it wasn't the All One, the Evening Primrose Oil or the Magnesium...I feel like my own guinea pig, but I also feel pretty good. The whole supp. thing fascinates me, actually. Today, I'm going to skip the Tyrosine and see how I feel...

Felt great to wake up this am. with that "I didn't drink last night!" realization. My precious five year old had crawled into bed with me at around 5:00, and gone back to sleep in my arms. These are the moments I cherish so much, want to hold onto forever, and don't want to sacrifice to hangovers, ever, ever again!

Well done, everyone, on sticking with this!!! I love to hear how everyone gets through, and what rewards come from doing it...We're in this together! Sara

                PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

Good morning, all! Day 4 for me, too, 1MC.
I am feeling good and thinking about how much energy it used to take just to cope with morning routines in the HO mode. Sara, I can so relate to your waking up with the 'I didn't drink last night!' realization. I have a milestone of sorts to report: Probably because I was HO free, I didn't even THINK about alc for a full 5 minutes after I woke up! Usually I would think about it first thing upon waking because of analyzing what I was feeling, why, and then going into the mode of trying to remember the evening before.
                Let's keep it going!
PS: You know, if I had a penny for everytime alc crosses my mind in a day, I'd be reallly, really, rich! Can't wait for that to change!
                Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

                  PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

Good Morning Dill, 1MC, Sara. Day 4, I can't believe it! YAY! Glad everybody is feeling positive this morning. Let's keep it going!

Sara - just read your posts from last night. I too am following the program from the book. All of the supps, the Topa, etc. They really work b/c aside from a little tension, nervousness when time to cook ( THAT IS MY TIME TO DRINK!) I haven't had any cravings etc. just a little sleeplessness. But if that is the worst it gets...WOOHOO!

                  Have a great morning everybody!

                    PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

Hi all --- glad to hear everyone's doing great! I'm on day 4 as well and feeling terrific! Have trouble getting to sleep, but hoping that will improve in time.
Dill ---- boy can I relate to that waking up and struggling through the day in slow motion! Such an effort to do what had to be done. And waking up (and not wanting to get up)... and hating myself for having done it again. Does this ever feel 100% better!
Ocean --- thanks for the info ... didn't realize it was a prescription drug. Glad it's working for you.
Peanut --- you're a riot! Whatever possesses you to run in those kinds of temperatures?!...LOL!
Strawberry --- isn't this site wonderful ... I too couldn't have had more than 1 day AF without the people here.

Well, I'm actually going to get my butt to the gym on a Sunday ---- don't think I've ever done that before! ... always too hungover!

Have a great day everyone ... I'll be back later in the day when I need to gather strength again. :l

                      PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

Good morning everyone! Sounds like you guys are doing great!

My first day on Campral (yesterday) went well...no cravings at all...but I did give in and light a cig! Just took a couple of drags and put it out. It tasted like shit.

Anyway, I'm tweaking things a bit. I have been on Dr. Oz's Rx for better aging and health for about a year and feel good about those. Lots of vitamins and minerals... So I just added the L-glut, Kudzu and Campral in for craving reduction.

I decided against the tapes, since I just don't have the kind of lifestyle to devote to those. But I have a strong meditation practice I've been committed too most of my life.

                      Anyway, hope that helps!
You guys have a great Sunday! Hugs to all!

Hi all! Day 6 AF today - still hardly any sleep but even though I'm tired I don't have that awful tight 'hammer head' and the dry horrors! Well done everyone xx

                          PROGRAM '09 WEEK #1 Jan 1

                          Hi everybody!
My sentiments exactly Sue Ellen - well done everybody. So glad I did not drink last night, although AL was on my mind ALOT!!! I agree with Dill, that if I had a penny for every AL thought, I could retire for life!!!

New Day - have a good workout at the gym! I must get there more often, me thinks! But I tell you, this running I do with my group - the Hash House Harriers - we run, rain or shine, no matter the temperature. I think the coldest recorded hash run was about -70F in the antarctic, and the hottest was 125C in Saudi Arabia. OK - I'm not THAT nuts!!!

Stawberry - I suggest drinking whatever you want at this point to help you get over your AL cravings. I drink a ton of cranberry and soda. If it's diet soda your drinking, don't worry about fattening. Not sure about tonic - is that the same as regular pop??? I also drink AF beer sometimes when I have my two evening ciggies, on those nights when I make it though strong AL cravings - if I can only grab one of those first, the cravings pass. Some don't agree with using AF beers and wines, but I say, do whatever it takes!!!

Off I go - maybe I will get somethings accomplished around here today, or maybe I'll go lay down and listen to the hypno cd's again. lazy bum. Back to work tomorrow after 12 days off, where a nightmare-sized pile of work will be awaiting, so maybe the relaxation thing is the way to go!!!

                          xoxo peanut

Hi all, almost noon here in California, this is day 10 for me. I realized that I cooked yesterday and never once thought of drinking, even though I was 24-7, cooking was a serious drinking time too for me. So this is good. My meds are really helping me, I can not fight the cravings, so the meds are really freeing my mind.
Still looking for info about the tapes, are they interesting and worth the money? I really love to listen to CDs they do help calm my mind.
Keep it up! I am off to Berkeley with a girlfriend, she wants to buy a sari to wear to an event. I live in the woods in the country, I can not believe I am getting in the car, (not Drinking) and driving all the way to the city, WOW! That's an accomplishment right there.

                                Hi Everybody,
I decided to jump on this thread as a supporter. Jamms mentioned that the longer term outcome is mods, not AF. I am just completing 1 year at MWO, and have acheived my goal of being an occasional social drinker. I posted yesterday "My Own Path" under Tell Us Your Story. If I can help anyone, let me know.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.
