    Dating and Drinking

I'm single and newly AF day 10 and doing great, but I'm worried about dating and meeting new guys. In the past, new dates were spent sharing a bottle of wine and lots of discussion, just takes the edge off getting to know someone. I don't want to blurt out "I can't handle alcohol" and scare him away. How have others dealt with this situation? Any adivse is welcome. Thanks mucho! :new:

order a "mocktail" (AF cocktail) & if he asks why your not drinking just say you "i dont drink" . You have got to a point in your life were you have realised the health benefits of being AF outweigh drinking.
    good luck,

Ah, do I ever understand what you are saying. Dating has to be the hardest thing ever, being AF.

Witchy has some good advice. Saying you don't drink will have to do. (even for me). If the guy finds that weird or not 'normal' then he isn't right for you.

      All the best!

I wish I had the magic answer as I am in the same boat. If I go out on a date I try to make the first one a "coffee" date. I did meet at a bar and ordered an Odouls a while back and did not even feel the need to explain myself! That was my favorite part of the date!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

lol im also single and have messed about for so long getting wrecked, dragging back any female i could get back, but not remembering anything in the morning. I for one would have no problems with a lady who chose not to drink we are adults and make our own choices. dont let no one push you in to drinking you have enough demons doing that, good luck.

Just say "the Al does not agree with me. gives me a bad headache."

            That should do the trick.

I don't know about you guys, but in the past, on a couple of dates, I got completely wasted and scared the guy off that way

I think for any guy that comes across my path should really appreciate my not drinking anymore! LOL!

Ha! I am single and newly AF as well, and I have done alot of internet dating over the years. Meeting someone new can be rather scary, so of course I have ALWAYS drank and usually Wayyyy too much on my first dates. Therefore, I either thought the guy was cute, (when not really) or thought the guy was interesting (when not really) or just got horny and jumped in the sack for some drunk sex, LOL! Since I am sober now, maybe now I can meet the guy I have always wanted to meet, and if I happen to decide to have sober sex, it might be a great! :H

I think seeing as you are a female, something believeable is that you could say you are a complete lightweight when it comes to alcohol, even one goes right to your head and you can't handle it.

It would help if you are little!

Sorry, I just realized I was talking about myself too much. In the future with drinking and dating, I plan to simply say, I gave up alcohol, that its just not good for your body. I think that anyone who has half a brain already knows drinking is really bad for you. Im sure you will be respected for making such an educated SMART choice not to drink. :goodjob:

                              Dating and Drinking

Thank you for starting this thread!! Being single again after 17 years of marriage was my "excuse" to go back to drinking after 10 years AF. Dating AF is a huge problem for me, but, at least temporarily, I am not worrying about it. I have decided to take a full year to focus on my recovery from alcohol and nicotine addiction. I am also trying to launch my two twenty somethings, so I can begin a career as a Travel Nurse.
