    3rd day af

hello, as my title says today is my 3rd day af and i have been having some withdrawal symptoms (i think!). i didn't sleep well last night, have had a headache since yesterday, and feel like my heart is pounding. i know these are signs of withdrawal and am wondering of people can talk about what they experienced when stopping drinking.
i have been a heavy wine drinker for 8-9 years (up to 2 bottles a night) with some af time mixed in there (5 months for a spell), but for the most part i am at the beginning of being af forever. my body is telling me it's time to get over this unhealthy love affair!
i am going to ask my dr. for campral and am starting kudzu as soon as i get it (ordered it yesterday along with the mwo book).
i am so ready to stop drinking and appreciate all commisserations and encouragements!

    cheers (with water)

    3rd day af

Hi, Peace and welcome to you.
Today will be my 4th day AF since the holidays. I too was a heavy drinker until I found MWO in Sept. and have done stints AF over the past months.

My heart pounds a lot too and I have started taking alot of vitamins- magnesium esp. to combat this. But I also have high blood pressure. Have you looked into that possibility?

This is a great place for lots of support. We are all here to help each other with love and understanding. The world can be so judgemental and this is a place where we can really share and be ourselves.
    Blessings-
    St. J

        good luck cheech! igluts?

st.john thanks for the advice...i am taking a multi-vit and i eat a veg/healthy diet, and do have borderline high bp...i wonder if that is what's causing the headache and palps...probably. i can't help but think that i will be so healthy when i can say i'm a non-drinker. last time i quit, i started a running program which culminated in running a 10k and me having great health stats...i can't beat myself up for falling off that wagon, but i know i can do it again!

Are heart pounding, sleepless, restless nights, dreaming more then ever before signs of withdrawal. I am on Day 4 AL free after a 2 day bender during New Years. I need to make a long run at being AL free. I have no energy and feel like I am in a hole. Taking vitamins and Kudzu. I thought maybe the Kudzu was making me feel uneasy...anybody ever have this happen? Or is it just the fact that I have gone AL free for a few days that gives me unrest? Thanks.

              Sorry tech. difficulty.

I talked with someone about high blood pressure at my health food store, he advised increasing the amount of water I drink, I did and it worked. I am not saying you shouldn't talk to your doctor about it but extra water can't hurt. If alcohol dehydrates us wich I think it does, than we need all the water we can get.

L-glut and Kudzu are incredible for the cravings! Lots of water is key as well, fill your stomach up! You will really and truly start to feel better around day 5 or 6, trust me every day gets better. Glad you both founnd us!

                      Keep the faith!

Water will help the symptoms go away quicker. When I was in detox they forced us to go everywhere with these mini pitches of water. I had hypertension when I went to detox and after 7 days of drinking TONS of water and eating regularly, my blood pressure went back to normal.

I had wicked heart palputations, anxiety attacks, loss of sleep, felt hot then chilled, headaches, body aches, dull ache around my liver area and pain in my kidneys, shakes, nightmares, and was pretty irritable the last time I quit. I was so bloody scared that I had done so much damage the last time that it pretty much scared me sober. I am 36 and was well on my way having a heart attack, or a stroke. I just know it.

Drink a lot of water! Eat healthy, and I found that Orange Juice (the real stuff) also helped immensley for me during withdrawals. I started to take magnesium along with my other vitamins and it has taken away the heart palputations. Someone suggested taking magnesium and it had helped with the heart palputations and the pounding.

                        Welcome and all the best!

                          Hey Peace!

                          Cheers! (with water)

On day 3 here as well!

I can't really relate to the symptoms you mentioned - but I feel rather listless and unmotivated to do anything. Not sure if that's withdrawal or just the post-holiday blues

I started the supps w/ Kudzu this Saturday - no mentionable (side) effects, as far as I can tell.

i guess not drinking means we get to figure out what we really are feeling, eh?!
i took l-glutamine and milk thistle today and have been feeling fine. had a brief craving, but got over it.
i remember when i quit smoking 12 years ago i would cry alot, and i figured out that it was becasue i didn't have that sort of emotional block to fall back on during a time out with a cig...it was like discovering what really made me tick. maybe now i can really see where i am emotionally and if it is a "blue" space, then so be it!
i just really want a good night's sleep tonight!

                            cheers (with water)

i was also going to mention that TOO much water is not a good thing! it's rather easy to knock your electrolytes and minerals out of whack. but, yes water does help, especially with my sore kidneys!
