MWP PRPGRAM STARTERS Week3 JAN 12

Good morning Rusty, and all to come! Rusty, it's good you are going to get right back at it today. Don't worry about last night. Just a bump along the way!
I did get through last night and now sit at 10/13 AF. Sitting down and posting at my lowest point helped a lot. New Day, thanks for sending me encouragement last night. It was a great help! Other than the weather, I'm looking forward to a great day. Hope you all have a great day and achieve your goals.
Oh, and one more thing: I watched the Mentalist last night. That is my favorite new show of the season. Have any of you seen it? I have the added benfit of remembering what it was about this morning!
    Dill

It's so great to get up clear headed every morning. I never want to lose that feeling!

MWP PRPGRAM STARTERS Week3 JAN 12

This is my first post. I decided to give up alcohol after last Sunday when I held a big lunch party got trashed and couldn't remember putting my darling children to bed. I have never been drunk in front of them before. It was also the first day of my period and for some unknown reason most of my most ridiculous humiliating experiences with alcohol appear to fit in with that part of my menstrual cycle. I would love to say that my partner has been supportive. The first thing he said when I told him I was going to try and go AF was that he didn't believe me. Since then he seems to be angry about the perceived lifestyle changes he is anticipating. I don't think my lifestyle has to change that much. I am a very determined person but moderation doesn't work for me. Yesterday I managed to go to a (40th) birthday lunch and not drink and then had a friend drop into visit me in the evening. (She had a beer).

My partner came in from a late business meeting last night and said he was angry about my drinking. Then this monring he has told me that he now regrets he hadn't made me stop drinking before as it has had a negative impact on our relationship (I agreed). Now he has said he wants to come home from work and talk about my drinking and how destructive it has been.

All I really want to do is concentrate on staying calm and not drinking. I feel he wants to punish me for admitting that my drinking has become a problem. I feel very alone and isolated. I don't want to 'phone a friend' as they will all tell me that my drinking isn't a problem and anyway what about him! (He is also a heavy drinker but much better at it than me but suffers terrible hangovers).

I feel this is all complicating my resolve!

                Flo, welcome.
I think everyone here will agree that sometimes a drinking partner may feel a little intimidated when the other partner expresses a desire to change. All of a sudden they may have to face something about themselves and just may not be ready too.
Ok, we all know that, but what do we do about it?

I believe talking is good, as long as HE isn't drinking when you do it. (It's alot easier for people to justify behavior when they're drinking.)
Tell him your reasons for wanting to change and ask for his support....I believe that's all you should do now, as far as that is concerned.

As far as YOU are concerned,.......develop a plan for what you want to do. Read posts on this site, learn and ask questions. You won't be judged at all, I promise. But you do have to have a plan.
Good luck! Keep coming back! The guys on this site and on this thread are great!!!!
                Hugs to you! :l

OK - I'm pooped. It's 5:00pm and I am going to head home after a long day here at work. But happily, today I am 12AF/14 for January- doing good - and on day 4 of my short term goal. Everybody does sound great today - lots of happy people out there!

Welcome Flo - stick around and you will succeed with all the support you will get here.
Jamms - ha! The joys of parenthood!!! Don't you let yourself get sick - moms aren't allowed to be sick!!!
Sunshine - you are doing great!! More AF days than AL days is a nice, positive change from the daily grind with the wine bottel!!!
                  USM - you're almost there!! 2weeks - what a milestone!!!
Blanchie - I know that giddy feeling. I get it too, just feeling good and not exhausted and ill feeling. I can be positively whacky some mornings!! Feels good though, eh?
Dill - you are doing great.
Rustop - keep it up, take the l-glut if you need it!
1More - the CD's must be working - you are doing great!!! They must be helping me too, as I have had no real cravings at all. I feel like a non-drinker in the evenings now, drinking tea with my son - what a bizarre concept!! I was thinking a bit about wine this afternoon, but I was getting tired doing the task I was doing, and that is when I want to get home and sit and sip wine and smoke - sort of an escapism thing!!

Hi to everybody else - I'm outta here!!!
                  xoxo peanut

                    Hi everyone,

I received my supps and CD's yesterday and the funny thing is I was feeling really anxious about quitting before they arrived, but seeing them made me feel excited and I am looking forward to receiving my meds so I can get started. I really hope they will arrive so I can begin on Monday 19th. So glad I have this forum for support as well.

Just got home from work and yeah my topomax has arrived. I am thrilled, I plan start on Monday 19th, I have been reading all your messages and can't help but admire your courage and determination. I really want to be able to participate fully in the support group and know that this isn't possible until I start my AF journey. I am thinking of you all.

                          Hey gang!
Where is everybody?!?!?! How are you all doing???
Stress head - welcome. Good thing to have a firm start date. That is something that I need to do to succeed at these things, be it going AF or starting a new dietary regime or whatever. Takes some phsyching up, I suppose!

Doing good here - am actually getting sleep. Not solid, uninterrupted sleep, but much more than the beginning of the month. No cravings for wine really and getting to bed by midnight. I was soooooo tired after work yesterday! Didn't get home until 5:45, and didn't want to cook, but did so anyway. Make some curried quinoa and some salmon - never have I eaten quinoa and it was really good (a grad student once did her PhD work on quinoa starch, so I know all about its proximate analysis!!!) - need some curried chickpeas or something to eat on it though. I ended up not going swimming as I was exhausted - first day of my period, poor sleep the night before, felt really low in iron, etc. I needed the night off I suppose, so I slept in the evening a bit and am feeling much better today. BUT, I forgot to take my cleansing herbals this morning! Phooey!!! Everybody was running late this morning, so no time!

I do hope everyone is doing well this week. I think the eastern part of the country(s) may be getting the cold we have had here soon?? I hope the weatherman is correct in his predictions this weekend of 0C - it will be such a nice break from this horrid deep-freeze!!

                          Back to work!
                          xoxo peanut

Hey everybody!! Long time no see It's kinda sparse around here...so to repeat where are the peeps??

It has been one heck of an intense week - this is the most demanding semester of the program, I'm so damn tired already, I will probably look 10 yrs older by May. We are all so confused about where we should be on any given day...I need a personal assistant...whatever- waa! waa! waa! (that's me whining)

Today is Day 15 - which means yesterday was TWO WEEKS! yay-

Peanut - why did you send such cold air this way? When it gets this cold down here, towns close - I'm serious -11 F Saturday morning - beach weather for you right??

And like USM said, the sleep is getting good. Plus, I wake up at 5am, feeling great, and can remember whatever I watched on tv the previous night, no crappy dry mouth, no fuzzy head or migraines, and can enjoy my coffee instead of drinking it hoping it will clear the webs.

                                Ya'll have a good evening -
