Well my new friends, I've made it to day 2. I feel like absolute crap though. I did not sleep whatsoever! Between my dogs and my husband I was woken up about a hundred times! I am so tired but other than that feeling confident that I can make it through today. I'll keep you all posted on how today goes.

Try and get some sleep remedies and order the tryptophan and melatonin from biorecovery . Insomnia is a hard one to deal with. Get some help for it

                Good Morning Kuya!
Insomnia is ONE of the main reasons I always relapse. It's so hard to deal with and I know if I drink I'll get a good nights sleep. Do you think the tryptophan is something I can get from a health store here in the US instead of ordering online? I have melatonin but it does not work for me. I used to take a 10mg melatonin with 2 5-htp's and the combo stopped working for me. Maybe with the tryptophan it'll be a different story. I can only hope!!!

Allan, I'm thinking of you this week! Sounds like you have the confidence to do anything!

iamaquitter, do you really sleep well while drinking? most things I read here - mirror my own experience of kind of passing out - only to wake at 2 or 3 AM and be awake for awhile....I had gotten so I took AL to bed with me - and when I woke up - knowing I'd be up for hours, I'd drink more. Fall back to "sleep" - and wake up feeling so shitty in the morning - I'd figure why not drink more. Most people aren't to that point yet - but the sleep that we get from alcohol isn't a restorative sleep like it is when sober.

I do get it though - as sleep was a huge factor in keeping me drinking too - but once out of the loop and able to look at it sober, I see how little sense it made. It'll get you to sleep faster - but what's the point. It's a temporary fix. I really feel that I am just now after a year - possibly getting back to normal and somewhat caught up on sleep that I deprived myself of all those years. A few nights of insomnia are normal at the beginning - but you're wise to try to find something to help with a lingering problem...sounds like the beginnings of a "plan"?

Speaking of that - day two-ers - what's your plan for later today or tomorrow, when that voice (Byrdie calls it the addiction voice - I'll let her tell you her more endearing name...:H) starts telling you that you just can't do it....that you can buy some - and just have a little of it here and there...this time - you won't drink til you're drunk...? Make sure you have things to do....things to drink...keep your belly full...stop dead in your tracks - turn around and do something else. K9 says to clean a closet...that always takes awhile! She also moved things around in her living room - I think that's brilliant. She had a "drinking spot" so she switched things up - moved a lamp - changed the atmosphere so that being without a drink wasn't the only thing that was different...Byrdie says to occupy your mind - think of ramdom things - try to name off all of your cousins...ANYTHING to push that thought out of your mind. And pretty soon, you will have two days under your belt - and you'll wearily settle into bed, full of awe that you did it.

                        Good Morning Nestlings!

Lolab, thank you for your sweet post that you have been on the lookout for me...I appreciate that. I admire your strength in staying AF for so long.

On the sleep issue, I slept better last night (after surviving day 1) than I have all summer. I had stopped drinking for about 30 days last Spring, then succumbed to my old ways early in the summer and kept going. Modding at first and then full fledged drinking every night and sometimes earlier in the day on my days off. Feeling like shit in the morning...can't stand it anymore. This morning, however, I am feeling wonderful...much better than yesterday when I had a humdinger of a hangover and had to even leave early from work due to vomiting. Enough!

I agree, Lolab, that we do not get the same restorative sleep sober than we do even if we sleep through the night after drinking. I remember reading that we don't get to a stage of deep sleep due to the AL in our bodies, so thats why we may think we get 8 hours but it's crappy sleep and not the good sleep one gets when sober. Yet another reason not to drink!

                        Have a great day all!

hey Byrdie - if you don't want to upload to a photo hosting site you can just post from your computer. It will show up as a clickable attachment like this...

In the "advanced" posting mode, choose the little paper clip (attacments) and then choose upload from computer - and browse your computer for the image. choose it and then it will show up on your post like this one does. Day 2... I have a horrible headache but minimal shakes. Started topamax today. Got some klonopin for withdrawals. And I have kudzu and l-glutamine as well as this MWO forum. Just want to make it through dinner w friend tonight without a drink! She's so used to seeing me drink that she will be shocked. I don't want her to know I'm quitting because I don't want her to stop coming around because of discomfort.

Read a lot of stuff here about people trying to quit on their own. I'm in the medical field and I really do not recommend going through withdraws on your own if you've been drinking a lot on a daily basis. I am very embarrassed to read about some of the ignorant docs out there---your best chance to get a knowledgable and informed doc is to see a psychiatrist or an addiction specialist.

And if you do take meds on your own without an MD (not recommended), make sure you go to your gp to get regular blood work. Do not take beta blockers if you have asthma and Wellbutrin if you have had seizures.

Ok, good luck to us today!!!
