Running...you always rise to the occasion!!! Stumpy's hair was a staple around here we are going to miss it. Did it die?

Alcoholic...I've been thinking about you. I see a couple of red flags, if you will indulge me...#1, your self appointed name. #2, You are drinking at work and you are in the medical field #3, you've only been at it since Monday! I checked the roll call list and I didn't see your total AF days....but you are telling us that you are trying to avoid AL yet you are still having 2 glasses per day. I don't know where you are in your journey but when you first came in, you were shaky and scared, like all of us. The primary goal of this place...is to try and help you get 30 days AF. That's the premise of this site...you will hear and see MANY differences of opinion as to what happens after that, but that's for another day....the first goal is for you to get those 30 days in.

Make NO mistake...every single one of us LOVED AL! We couldn't bear the thought of giving it up for one night let alone a lifetime! So give your AF self a chance....if you sail thru the 30 days with just mild thoughts of AL and are doing fine and the days pass quickly...by golly maybe you ARE one of the lucky ones! But if you find yourself pacing the floors and looking at your watch and having obsessive thoughts from the time you get up til the time you mercifully go to sleep, well....pull up a twig...you might be one of us.

When we are trying to let go of AL, it is just like breaking off a relationship...no different. There are stages of grief: Anger, Denial, Bargaining, Depression and finally, Acceptance. When you came here, like all of us...you were angry! 'Something's got to be done....I've HAD it with this life!' Then you move into the next phase...Maybe my problem wasn't so bad after all! Other people drink more than I do! If I can go a day without AL what's all the fuss, that proves I can DO it....' Then the bargaining...."if I can just have ONE drink" If I can make myself stick to just 2 glasses per night, I'll be ok" If I can just drink for social occasions I will be ok". Does any of this sound famililiar so far?? I know you are having mind chatter....but you searched out a sight for people who have serious AL problems, you chose a name that supports that...so what am I missing? It really IS more of a black and white issue than you'd think....either you are drinking, or you are not. Did you ever know someone with a heroin addiction that was 'just cutting down'? This is a progressive disease...I bet if you take a hard look in the mirror ....can you say you were as bad as you are now last year at this time? Change is hard, gosh knows...we ALL know that, but wouldn't you agree that you came here to get help? What is it you are trying to achieve? We will be here every step of the way....we are serious about quitting...but we can't help you be a better drinker....we CAN help you become a NON Drinker!

Nobody tried harder to make it work than I did....I never drank harder than the year I tried to moderate. We are here for the asking!!! Byrdie
All you gotta do, is get thru this day. AF 1/20/2011

Listen to the lady, alcoholic.she has been where you were, where you are now and is now where you want to be.Dont kid yourself you can tame or moderate it. if you could you would not be here. Its bloody hard but even after only 11 days AF I am feeling healthier and happier.Am I tempted every day?Hell yeah.what do I do?I come on hear and read positive stuff from people like Byrdlady and remind myself what can be achieved if I commit myself to being AF.

        Hi Everyone.

Just thought I would look in on you all. Last year I spent many evenings reading the threads in the hope that I could find a way to stop drinking for good. Well, I found a way and stopped drinking AL on 3rd November last year. My friends told me it would be a huge mountain to climb ! Since November 3rd, I have not had any alcohol ( and not craved for it at all ) and switched to drinking Blackcurrant and Soda. I lost nearly fifty pounds in weight and have recently climbed two mountains !

Now I walk five miles every day and feel fantastic. Seems a lifetime ago since I was feeling depressed and suicidal. Unlike many who struggle with stopping, I found it easy to do, once I got my head around things and decided what I wanted to do and how to achieve it. I also managed to save around ?5000, money that would have been poured down my throat.

Now I have no interest in AL yet I can go into bars and socialise. And it all started by visiting this site !

To those who are struggling with AL, let me tell you that it is do-able and also a lot easier than you might think. It all starts here though !

nurdl and Wicked: I just googled that EFT thingy and I really think that'll work. I'm not have any intense cravings today but when one hits I am going to give that a try. I am a total believer in accupressure and the likes! I'm excited about this!

Dangrod: Welcome to MWO. I have been trying to quit drinking for years and in the last week or so that I've been on this site I am more hopeful than I've ever been. The people on here are phenominal!!! Good luck to you! Glad you found us!
One day at a time, no matter how many times I fail, I will get this monkey off of my back!!! :confusedmonkey:

Hi Timpin. Thanks for updating us on your progress.

I am at around 50 days right now and completely agree with everything you have said. When you first start out the first few days or weeks seem impossibly hard. Once you pass that 30 day mark it seems to get easier and easier. The more I change my lifestyle for the better the more confidence I gain.

Good for you. And well done on saving ?5k. I am spoiling myself with the money I save from not drinking. Should start an AL savings account.

Day 33 in the Big Sober House

It's Day 33 in the Big Sober House and all the housemates are outside the door of the Diary room where auditions are taking place for the new Big Sober Movie. Inside, upon the casting chair, sits one very excited birthday girl facing an X panel of judges: Fin, Slay and Stumpy (who has since had a makeover and has had her hair replaced with a hand. Weird.)

              SLAY: So, K9, welcome.

K9: Thanks. It's good to be here.

SLAY: And you think you've got the X factor?

              K9: Look at me.

              SLAY: We are.

              K9: Then say no more.

              SLAY: Confident cat.

              STUMPY: Yes, she is.

              FIN: But can she act?

SLAY: Well, let's find out... K9, we're going to ask you to do a bit of improvisation based upon the themes of the movie, alright.

              K9: Why, sure. Can't wait.

FIN: Ok, so K9, the movie is called "Sleeping with Devils and Waking with Angels", can you improvise a scene whereby you play a devil that another character spends the night with.

              K9: Sure

              K9 Gets into character...

K9: (In character)... So, you - yes, you - well, you are just so fecking amazing that I want to toast your radiant brilliance with a sup of this ruby red wine. Ignore the do-gooders of this life, the folks that are the chirpiest in the morning are the most boring. Listen... You and me, babe, we ain't just gonna paint our innards red, we ain't just gonna paint the town red, or the city red, or the state red. No, we're gonna paint the universe red. We're gonna fecking suck the fecking marrow out of life; we're gonna burn this night through like we are incandescent rage; we're going to prove to all the shmucks of the world that what matters to YOU is number one, that what matters to ME is number one, that... Actually what matter to you is gonna have to be number two. YES, call me LOKI! I am one of the gods! You are one of the gods! And tonight we are omnipotent.... Indestructible... Invincible... Unconquerable... Tonight is our night. With our hip flask and cigarillo's, tonight... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tiPAvmy3eA[/video]]tonight's gonna be a good night!!

STUMPY: That'd freak out my hair, if it hadn't become a hand.

FIN: Well... well done. Clearly a natural talent there.

SLAY: Perhaps, yes. Let's hear what the audience have to say about K9's performance.

Outside the diary room the housemates are whooping and wooting at the dairy room door. Clearly they approve of K9's performance.

FIN: So, Stumpy, Slay, we need to make a decision here. Will K9 go through to be in the movie?

STUMPY: K9, you've proved yourself a great character actress. I think you have what it takes. So i say... YES.

              The housemates go :woot:

SLAY: I'm impressed. Really, I am. Much potential there. Is it enough though?

              The housemates go, booooooooooooooooooo

SLAY: Is it...? I say it is. YES.

              The housemates go :woot:

FIN: So K9 it's just me to cast my vote and I say -

The diary room door bursts open -

              STUMPY: Stella?

STELLA: Sho, wha' like a shicken can't be innamovie, no? Whash wrang with a shicken?

              SLAY: Stella? Are you drunk?

STELLA: Am no drunk. am jish shaying why noone thin' to ashk a shicken if a wanna be in a movie. a can act. look (hic). "The namesh, Chook, Shtella Chook. Fanshy giving me a mashash, K9?"

              K9: Excuse me? A mashash?

              STELLA: Yesh, a mashash-sh-sh... (hic)

              K9: You mean a massage?

STELLA: Thash wha' a sed... you no lissenin'? Anawanna-marnnini wivanolive. Shaken no'shtirred.

Stella sways, then stumbles, then falls...

I tried three times with firefox before it finally opened. I used to have a lot of problems with IE.
