      Byrdie,

I can?t agree more. People offered me a sip as well or suggested to have one drink. I could never understand a point of having just one drink. It like going to a strip club and not getting laid. Why tease yourself?

I have noticed that I have a very addictive personality. If I eat one chocolate, I need to finish the box. If I start watching a movie I need to finish it. And so on.

I wander how many of us share this personality trait?

      Please share.

Yep, I'm that way, too. I can't have a bite or 2 of a candy bar and save the rest for later. I finish what I start! So I have it, too. B

I've always been known not to do things by halves alright. I defo was like that with alcohol. I've a lot of flashbacks lately and it feels like waking up after one massive binge of years. I keep remembering occassions where I was drunk and prob made a fool of myself or even worse thought I was covering up but now realise that I certainly wasn't. For the first time in my life I feel nervous around alcohol and people with alcohol so I think I'll be giving the pubs a wide berth despite my plans to socialise without any drink.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Allen I am that way also but more with tasks and less with things you consume. Before I really started drinking I did not really like to drink because you had to drink and drink and drink and it just seemed stupid the continually consume something over and over like that. I am very controlled with my calories and am a chronic calorie counter and I am really into nutrition, which seems silly if I keep pouring poison in my body. Anyway I think alot of us are very type A personalities.

How is everyone doing tonight? I have 3 more hours and I got tonight beat! Allen from your posts it looks like you maybe having a bit of a struggle tonight. I hope your doing good!

I don't post here much but am stuck on a train with the most obnoxious drunk woman. She is repeating herself and buying drinks for whoever will join her. Oh there she goes for beer 4. Or 5 and we've only been on 1 1/2 hrs. I guess I'm m sharing this because it is really ugly and I now have something to help me even more stay sober. I never ever want to be that person! I feel for her daughter who is picking her up in 3 hours. It is one thing to know the stupid that's we did but to see someone like this really makes me sick. Swearing and all. Someone next to her said this isn't a bar and her reply was who cares. Sorry for the long post but needed to vent.

45 more minutes and today is over. The voice was there but just wispers tonight seeing as Sunday is always AF and there are no stores that sell my posion open today and I only ever buy what I am going to drink that night. Tomorrow, however, the stores will be open and the voice will be loud, Tuesday the store will be closed for Christmas so I get a freebee that day. I can do this, the first 10 days are the hardest cause I feel like such a looser being in the single digets. My plan is to reward myself at the beginning of each month in 2013 for making the previous month AF. 2/1 is a Friday so maybe a nice dinner with family or friends or just me and hubby at Chili's my fav! The tripple fajita platter! Yummy! I'm gonna hang around till 9 then I'll watch a show while drinking peppermint tea with a candy cane for a little christmas cheer.

I hope everone is doing great tonight!

                    Good evening Nesters,

I'm happy to see folks jumping on here to express fears & worries. That's why we're here, we do understand each other where others around us don't

Moni, you remind me of myself in the beginning. I swear I didn't leave the house unless I absolutely had to for the first 3 months or so. I really needed that time to firm up my AF commitment. I made a solemn vow to myself that I would never set foot in a liquor store again & I haven't. Makes me proud & I know you can do it too There is no need, ever, to have AL in your house. If visitors want it, they can bring their own.

Clear eyes, hope you've lost the beer lady by now - geez!

odat, your AF days will pile up quicker than you think, I promise. I just loved feeling proud of myself for a change & that's what kept me going!

Byrdie, so glad to hear you survived the dreaded family visit. I have 3 brothers & they all prefer to keep to themselves & that works for me
Tomorrow I will post a picture of my train cake. The baking part was easy, the decorating part took some effort but I think it will be cute. The grandkids will love it, I'm sure.

Hi Hippyman, glad yuo are hanging out with us!

Wishing everyone a safe & cozy night in the Nest!

The big four oh today Moni :goodjob: and well done .You've come a long way.
To all here I would like to say thank you for where I am today ,looking forward to my first Af christmas in over 30 years.I usually dont have a lot to say but I have to say without you people and your stories and support( both old hands and newbies like myself)I doubt I would have quit.I cant mention everyone but a few in particular helped me without realising it.So to Moni,RC, Slay, and Almost Free ,your courage and thoughtful posts even when you were feeling low helped me stay on the straight and narrow .Every time I was tempted to drink I would come on here and sure enough one of you would have posted something that made me think clearly and put the thought out of my head. And saving the best for last
Byrdy ,I've said it before but you more than anyone have been my inspiration,I came on hear half-heartedly , not really believing I could quit but you me made me believe.Your no nonsense common sense struck a chord from day one and because of you, today I do not see myself as an alcoholic but simply as a non drinker.:thanks:
To all here have a peaceful and AF christmas.

How cool is it that so many of us will be present, with it, clear headed and into the moment this year. I'm so glad to be a part of this crowd too.
