    Newbies Nest

Morning, Nesters! Good to see ev'body! Snap, as a girl from the South, we ALWAYS carry and pack of Lance crackers in our purse!! You would be amazed at how handy that it! It hushes little kids on planes...soothes grumpy coworkers...distracts nosey husbands when the MasterCard bills arrive....1000 uses!

Yes, it really IS amazing the good gossip you get privy to when you are sober to hear it and REMEMBER it! Loose lips sink ships!! So true! Glad I'm not the one running around with them anymore!! Building those strong muscles AGAINST drinking is empowering!!! The muscles you use get stronger! (conversely the ones you don't get weaker, too, so that's good!)

Friday is just another day of the week, not a free pass to Boozeville! K9 and the girls will be along later to cheer us on to the weekend! If you got thru the last 15 minutes, you dang sure can make it thru the next 15!! And so it goes...... XO, Byrdie

Snap way to go! I have not tested myself yet. Yes i am close to 160 days but have not had the balls to attend something like you just did. Not yet. I have been thinking of trying to though. You have given me strength and im going to go out this weekend and see how i feel. I have to face it at some point right. I wont have a set back I know that. I just dont want the monster to start talkin and break out in a sweat. Did you have a moment or two like that last night?
Just quit. Dont think, just do. God will help.

        :yougo::yougo:HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!!:yougo::yougo:

Snap - Your story of the no-food-zone reception was a good one! The bonus of some juicy gossip AND a stop at McDonalds on the way home was really the icing on the cake (speaking of cake...there wasn't even a cake at the reception???) Way to stay strong...you really showed alcohol who's BOSS!

Don't know if I mentioned this, but last Thursday I went to a concert (at an Indian Casino) and noticed that NOBODY seemed to be drinking. They do allow alcohol in the restaurant and bar area, but nobody that showed up at the concert seemed to be buzzed. I thought "huh...I guess being drunk all the time really ISN'T normal after all...who'd a thought?" LOL

Stay strong over the weekend peeps. Friday/Saturday/Sunday are just DAYS not a pass to drink. A craving will never last as long as a hangover, and you'll never wake up in the morning wishing you'd drank the night before.

Now get out there and have a great sober weekend!!! :h:h
:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Believe in yourself. You are stronger than you think.

I had a very interesting evening - hubby and I were invited to an ex-colleague of mine's evening wedding reception last night. It was about an hour and a half drive away and we were invited from 7.30pm.

Good old me offered to drive :H (I have my uses!) I naturally assumed that there would be a buffet or some type of food (don't people generally lay food on for evening guests at weddings? I've only been to the whole day in recent years?) so I had told hubby that we wouldn't eat beforehand (it was all going to be a bit of a rush with the drive anyway).

I had spent the whole day worrying about 'not drinking' how I would cope (these were friends who know me as a hardened drinker - life and soul of the party etc) - but spent the day thinking about all the lovely food I would eat instead - and didn't have lunch in anticipation of the lovely spread ahead! Anyway - there was no food laid on at all for the evening guests - not even a peanut or crisp in sight. It was in a converted barn miles from anywhere - and you couldn't even buy crisps at the bar!

Well everyone at the wedding was absolutely smashed and slurring (a combination of those who had been there all day drinking - and all the evening guests who had arrived thinking they would be eating so were drinking on empty stomachs!)

Even my hubby (who hardly drinks and only had two beers and a Baileys) was feeling a bit light headed. I was soooo relieved that I wasn't drinking - I would have been an absolute mess if I had been indulging to my usual extent on an empty stomach.

The bonus too is that as I was the only one sober - I was told some incredibly juicy gossip by a few people who's tongues were very loose with information that should not have been divulged - oops, if they remember this morning once they've got over their hangovers, they will certainly be cringing!!

For those of you who are worried that I might waste away from lack of food - we stopped at a drive through McDonalds at 1am and had Big Macs and Fries!! Haven't done that in years.

          Happy sober Friday everyone!
Way to go! You're an inspiration.

Hi Erik - wow 160 days is amazing. I have a long way to go to catch you up!! First, I must confess that my story isn't all based on balls. I couldn't have drunk last night even if I wanted to because I started taking Antabuse 3 weeks ago - and second I was driving (for all my past sins, I never drink and drive - in the past I just never offered to drive :H!!)

However, whilst this is cheating - I think it has fast forwarded me (be it drug induced) to the very important stage of my journey that Byrdie mentions - ACCEPTANCE.

When I arrived the party last night the wine was flowing and I admit I looked longingly at those glasses and imagined what it would taste like; but I accepted that I couldn't have one - so that was that. This was a great learning curve for me - and I hope it will stand me in good stead for the future when I'm no longer taking AB.

The early part of the evening was the hardest - when everyone was 'enjoying' their wine, beer and whatever else took their fancy and I was sipping a lime and soda (I admit to a pang of jealousy at that point). However, as the evening went on and I could see people getting noticeably drunker, slurring and stumbling I felt better and better about the fact that I wasn't drinking - I was still having a great time catching up with old friends I hadn't seen for a long time and remained composed and can remember every conversation (including the gossip!!)

I forgot to mention too that several people commented on how good I was looking. One said ' you're positively glowing, have you been on holiday or something' I didn't say 'no - I've just given up poisoning myself!!

Good luck Erik - and if you go out remember to plan your escape route. If temptation gets too much just leave.

Byrdie - not sure what Lance Crackers are (not heard of them in the UK) but will definately make sure I have reinforcements in my bag in future!

No Sugar - glad you enjoy my stories (I do tend to waffle a bit!!)
Never put off to tomorrow what you can achieve today!

Hi K9 - there was cake at the reception - but as wedding cake is usually laced liberally with brandy I didn't think I should take the risk (I'm taking Antabuse) - didn't want to end up as the evening's entertainment!! :H:H

Snap-in the beginning I felt like I was "cheating" also by using AB to control my drinking but, it worked so who's to argue. I'm just so thankful that I had option to get AB prescribed from my Dr and the money (very expensive) to get it. It literally saved my life. I took it for approx. 2 months, 125 mg per day, and still have some left that I will pop in an instant if I ever feel the beast pulling on me in a way I can't just ignore or eat AT. I love the fact that you can't have a drink-and that is that. As Byrdie says "move long, nothing to see here."

                Have a great day.

Hi Overit - I'm so glad to hear that you managed to move on from AB after just 2 months. I'm hoping that will be the case for me too - my Dr will only prescribe for 6 months but I can already feel my attitude changing in just 3 weeks.

I feel liberated by the fact that I simply CANNOT drink. Full stop - no point dwelling - just move on. I also like the fact that on some evenings when I REALLY crave a drink and start telling myself that maybe I'll stop taking it tomorrow - I know I would have to wait at least a week for it to be out of my system and by then I would hopefully have seen the light! (I haven't done that - but it certainly crossed my mind in the first week!!)
