I've been moaning that alcohol is everywhere and so are things that remind me of partying.

Truth is, I choose to pay attention to these cues. They will always be there. I just need to become immersed in something else so that I do not even recognise the party posters, the Facebook posts, the alcohol etc

Your post is right on target with something I've been thinking about all morning. Alcohol had such a big place in my life and now it's gone. What am I going to fill it with? It's like having a large wad of cash in your pocket, not sure what to do with it and it dwindles away.

Just checking in to let you know I'm dropping my son off at my grandmother's house today and checking myself into the hospital to detox. I do not know really whether or not ill be allowed on the internet or not, so there's a good chance I will not be on here for a week or so. I wish everyone the best and i will be back on when i am finished to start my new AF life.

Everyone deserves to live free of addictions - I'm so happy for you that you have so quickly been able to arrange things to begin this process and create a new life for yourself and your family. The Nest should always be a welcoming, supportive place for everyone who is working towards this goal. I'm sorry that my frustration with the situation resulted in a judgmental post that made you feel unwelcome and others uncomfortable.

I hope your detox process is not terribly difficult and prepares you to begin this adventure of changing your life for the better. Your fellow nesters will be waiting to give you the love, support, and occasional constructive tough-love that we all need to get it done.

All the best to you, NS

Well it took me a little longer than an hour to get through the past 2 days! I did throw in some shopping and a nap and baked some cheese filled croissants..

Lovely, very good news that you've shared with us today. A very courageous decision and I'll be thinking of you during this week and looking forward to hearing from you when you're back.:l

DO! great post. Are you still in the mood for a cheesy croissant or should I save it for tomorrow morning? Don't worry, it wasn't too much work!

Jvo, you're sounding really strong-- I've written down the name of the film you mentioned. I haven't heard of it, but I'm always looking for recommendations. I enjoy reading your posts very much and have a plan to read your thread tomorrow! Looking forward to an entire day off tomorrow-- Except for a run, I don't think I'll leave the house. That's ok every now and then, isn't it?!

Jennie, did you finish painting those walls?! Hopefully you fell asleep first and didn't have to do it! Or do you like painting? What colour? The only time I had fun painting my house was when I had a great old apt in Seattle. I didn't have any money so I would go to the paint store and take whatever colours they had "messed up" on and were selling at extreme discount prices. I painted the walls and the trim different colours and each room was different. It was so much fun and funky and in the end looked great--IMO.
Glad to have you back here!!

Steadfast, good to see you-- Here's to having the weekends completely free with a clear head and an Unhungover body. Damn, it feels good, doesn't it?

Dottie!! Did you get the computer thing worked out? How are we going to celebrate our 90 days? Should we meet up for coffee and cake?

Pav, I love Steely Dan! I'd forgotten all about that song and now I've had it in my head the whole day. I've always felt I should have been a young adult at that time instead of a young child--I have a lot more in common with people 10-20 years older than myself than with those my own age. Interesting experience you had at work! Progress, to begin to change the way we deal with every day life. It's happened to me a couple of times, where I've stopped in my tracks, completely aware of what is happening, named the problem, my feelings and made the decision to deal with it in a different way than I have in the past. It's a great feeling, isn't it? You have 3 weeks today, don't you? 21 days! Very well done.

Humble rider, :welcome: and great job on 3 weeks! It's nice to have you joining us in the Nest. Have you found a comfy branch?

and Londoner, What are your plans this Sat. night? Tonight? I hope you'll be hanging out with us in the Nest. How are you today?

LBeagle, It sounds like things have calmed down at your place-- super to hear that the kids have jobs and are sober, and that you are connecting and finding things to do together. Have I mentioned how much I admire you and your strength and generosity? I don't know if I would be able to do what you are doing.

I missed you all this week-- I know for a fact that I would not have been able to handle this long work week plus baking for and organizing a 12 year olds birthday party PLUS having to deal with her annoying father (my ex) if I had been drinking!! I would have been a complete wreck with nasty skin and a bad mood, exhausted to the bone-- and now I'm exhausted, but with a clear mind and a good mood and I am proud of myself again! I've been more proud of myself in the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 10 years. Here's to a super sober Saturday, Nesters! It's within the reach of each and every one of us..xo

                      Good morning everyone,

                      Still here, still sober. Yay!

                      Dave,
Thanks much for the welcome and words of wisdom. Unless I'm like one guy I read about who woke up one morning having had his AF epiphany and never had the urge to drink again, which would be great, I'm going to have triggers and temptings along this road. I need to make a plan now for those speed bumps.

                      Willow,
Nice to meet you. I have noticed my skin finally looking better three weeks into this. I still have just a hint of that fair isle ruddy look, what with my ancestry, freckles and all, but I don't feel today like I have to pile on the foundation that I used to after my daily benders.

Yep, daily benders. I'm an administrator/educator who couldn't wait to get home to put herself into a stupor with a bottle of wine a day. For like 35 years, with one pregnancy break and a few weeks to months here and there of self-enforced sobriety that always led back to having just one with the girls or whatever. This time, working on day 21, I have been positive and fairly comfortable, but I haven't been put in a social situation where I feel like I have to imbibe. That date is coming up December 6. I know, not even a holiday, right? More on that later.

Thanks for the coffee and oatmeal offerings. I'm having my one morning cup right now, followed by fruit and yogurt. Then a good book, a little knitting, a walk with the dogs, who knows. The whole day is my oyster.

Best of luck to all of you here who are struggling just like I am. We can do it. HR

Londoner, please please please reread your posts before you make up your mind. Easier still, just read the goals you posted for yourself in your sig line. You know what's going to happen. I know what's going to happen. Don't do this to yourself - do you really want to repeat history time and time again? I know it's difficult: at your age, all I wanted to do over a weekend was to party. But if staying AF is really worth it to you, you will have to do the difficult - and unpopular - thing. You can either please your mates, or be selfish and do what is right for you. Either way, the ball is in your court.

Welcome HR! Day 21 is awesome - congrats! Have a look in the Toolbox - lots of help and advice in there in smoothing out the speed bumps, including the one called 6 December.

LC, any croissants left over? My supper will be a while yet. Lovely, thanks. Save us one for tomorrow as well, will you?
14 October 2013 was the first day of the best days of my life!

Dave, I'm with Dottie on The Christmas Story and Ralphie.....one of my all time favorite movies. That, and Office Space of course....Dave, I hate to tell you this but...YOU ARE A GOOF!! Haha, a man after my own heart. I am after all a reincarnate of a cross between Lucille Ball and Dick Van Dycke.

                            Dream - thanks

I'm going out in shorts and tshirt tonight with no money or ID, so absolutely no way I can go out to a pub or club. I won't drink round my friends either.

Purely watching sport and chilling with some friends - I need to socialise somewhat. I'm fed up of either being a recluse or out drinking heavily.

Time to start building a real life, one of no lies. One that does not rely on alcohol.
