        Hi Fennel,

Good luck on your journey. The book is great, It has modivated me already. Let's keep in touch we can try this together!!
Congrat on your AF nights! isn't it weird waking up and just doing normal things like walking the dog and doing laundry? I would have to wait hours for the hangover to pass before starting my day.

          Good afternoon Nesters!

          It's really busy here today

Hi & welcome Islandgirlie! Please grab a comfy twig & settle right in with us! I am about to celebrate my 1 year AF anniversary this week, thanks to the wonderful people here at MWO! I did not use any Rx meds, I didn't even use the recommended supplements due to allergy problems. I have gotten by just fine on my own vitamins/minerals & herbal supplements. I do however highly recommend the Hypnotherapy CDs! They really help you to change your thinking & learn to relax without AL.

Coco (Grasshopper) - Spring is here & so are the allergies. Anyone suffering a runny nose and/or sinus problems right now has lots of company! I think we get a bit too caught up in wanting to blame AL for every stinking problem that comes our way. Sometimes AL is not at fault - we just have to learn to deal with life. That is exactly what I have been doing this past year. Join me in becoming a Dragon Slayer

Nora, I do occasionally think about a glass of wine but KNOWING that I am unable to stop at one glass stops me dead in my tracks!!!! I have mentally disconnected myself, just don't allow drinking thoughts to have any priority in my life any more. I'm too happy with myself these days to go back down that slippery slope again!

Byrdlady, Excuses & runningwind - I am sorry that you've had troubles but you have all learned something about yourselves. Coming right back here after a slip & fall is the best thing you can do for yourself & loved ones. Brush yourselves off & hop right back up on your twigs! It probably would be best not to entertain any thoughts about moderate drinking right now. It's a very hard thing to do - I haven't had the guts to even try.......

Molly, congrats to you on your AF vacation! I flew to Quebec last year when I was about 10 weeks AF, had the best time ever! I thoroughly enjoyed walking around Old City Quebec, shopping, taking some good pics. etc. Totally worth it!!

          Be back later!
          Lav

            Hey everyone,

I want to thank you all for your good advice and support. Here it is, day 5 af. Doing pretty well with it with the exception of not being able to sleep. But that's nothing new......haven't been able to sleep for years but it's just worse now. I am a little worried about the weekend. Not only is it the weekend but I have a social event and another one the weekend after that where there will be all kinds of drinking going on and I can't miss it due to the nature of the celebration.

Hoping everyone is having a good day. Kit

              Hi Kitkatz
Well done on 5 days, bet you're really beginning to feel good. Like you, I have a sleep problem, always have had so the alcohol used to knock me out, I found that quite a big issue when I stopped drinking but 'c'est la vie'! The social events you're going to are they really unavoidable? If so just tell yourself how hard you have worked to get those AF days under your belt and not to throw them away for some scabby ol' beer or wine or whatever. I still am avoiding most socialising revolving around drink - not really that I would be tempted more that I would be bored!:goodjob:

                Hi Everyone

Just back from hols with my girls. So good to see everyone here. Welcome to all newbies. I think we were up to page 520 something when I left so theres a lot to catch up on when I've time.

We went to Singapore and Phuket for 10 days. We had a great time there - lots of walking and shopping and no al apart from 1 pina colada which we had around the pool with food on my youngest daughter's birthday. That's what she wanted to do and I was rather suprised to find that I really could have done without the al actually. Other than that - lots and lots of water or lemonade - it was so hot and humid!!! I am feeling really good and I've just noticed the skin on my face - so nice and clear. I love it. It makes this battle so worth it.

Its strange but since coming home yesterday I've had bad cravings. Is it just the familiar surroundings perhaps. I don't know but I'm not giving in to that and losing what I've accomplished so far. I love having energy to do things and a clear head to think properly and being so much happier and positive.

Big congrats Lav on your anniversary. How good is that. How good are you!!!

Molly you're a star too - having a no-al holiday!!! its so good being able to remember it all isnt it?

Anyway all, I now have a lot of catching up to do - washing etc. Will talk to you all again soon.

All this talk about holidays is making me want mine now weirdly enough I didn't drink too much on holiday last year compared to what I normally would and it was great so I'm looking forward to my AF one this year.:l

Day seven done and dusted for me, even if I did wake up feeling like I had the hangover from hell and actually thought for a moment I had drank.

I'm remembering all the good parts of being AF again now, I'm going to write them down and keep the paper on me incase I get tempted then I can whip it out and remind myself why it's not worth it:l
WHAT CAN I SAY? I DON'T WANT TO PLAY ANYMORE..

Just taking it day by day.......

No, I can't avoid the social events. The first one is at my house and the next one is a birthday party for a dear family member and I cannot miss it. I'll just have to practice my no thank you speech. I'm thinking I will be bored too. Al made things more fun until the next day. I hope I can sleep tonight. How many days or weeks does it take to just be able to go to sleep? Like you, al would knock me out within 15 minutes at least and then I would wake up at 4 a.m. and not be able to get back to sleep. Last night I tried sleepytime tea but it didn't help. Oh well, one day a a time I guess. It's 5 p.m. which is a dangerous time for me but I don't have any al in the house so I won't be drinking. Yay!

Kit, how about listening to some music to fall asleep? I downloaded a relaxation cd (soft music with ocean waves in the background) onto my ipod and find it really helps me fall asleep. I usually wake up at some point and turn my ipod off but I don't have trouble falling back to sleep. Just a suggestion - I know how hard it is to not be able to get to sleep.

Maz - welcome back and way to go you! That will be my goal this year (if I get a vacation) - to leave the wine at home. Good for you!

Leave - hope you are doing well - haven't seen you here in a while but my posts have been sporadic as well - caring for sick parents.

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening and stay strong - it's definitely worth it!

Just having a sneaky peak during work too. You've all been very busy in the nest and I don't have time to read it all now, but here's some chicken soup for the sickies and well wishes for the newbies.
I've been sleeping too well since going AF. I drink Relaxing Tea before bed now and sleep the whole night. Trouble is I don't want to get up in the morning. I used to go to the gym at least 2 mornings a week before work and a Saturday, but I can't drag my body out of bed at 5.45 at the moment. I was feeling fine about it - after all I'm walking the dog each night, and if I'm wasting the $20pw fee, at least I'm not drinking 3x that. But last night the gym rang to see why I hadn't been  So now I have to get my a into g.
At least I don't wake up with a phantom hangover anymore.

Mazzie - Welcome back and well done on not drinking on holiday. I had forgotten you were going away and wondered if you had been affeted by the cyclone.

                            Hi Everyone,

Well, I went to the school event this morning without a hangover. Good job too as it was so hot, I don't think I would have coped with AL dehydration as well as heat dehydration. Also, I was a LONG way from a loo which I couldn't have coped with if I had a hangover. Must keep these good feelings clear in my memory.

I'm now home for an hour before heading to the gym.

Lav - Is it one year today? Very well done and many congratulations. You are an inspiration.

                            Catch up later everyone.

Hi Kit-I'm day 19 AF and still having tons of trouble falling and staying asleep. I too used AL to fall asleep (among other reasons) and would normally wake up at 3 or 4 am as well. Sometimes I would sleep through the nite, most often not. Of course everything was compounded by if not a hangover, massive fatigue all day resulting in caffeine and LOTS of food to keep me going. My saving grace now is that even without a good nite's sleep, I still have tons of energy during the day and don't have that bone shattering fatigue. I think the supplements are responsible for the energy and the decreased appetite.
I've tried everything: Benedryl, 5 grams of melatonin, 2 types of bedtime tea, Calm Forte and nothing is working. Chammomile tea doesn't even work, nor does the sleeplearning CD. I'm ready to ask my doc for an Rx. At least now I don't have to make a choice between AL and a sleep aid!!

Here's another thing we have in common: I too have to go to a relative's birthday this weekend (my dear nephew's 18th!!). I'm really nervous because I too used the AL to make these events fun but of course always went overboard and paid for it the next day. I'm so afraid I'm going to be both bored and boring.

OMG-too funny Everyone-Cougartown (which I'm watching right now) is all about Jule's deciding to stop drinking wine for a month!! She realized that she spent as much on wine per month as food!! Of course, she is sleeping better without wine-fiction for sure!! It's a good show-catch it if you can

Nora and anyone else feeling under the weather-sending pings that you feel better real soon!!
Welcome back to the all the holiday people-so glad your jaunts AF worked out well. Way to go!!

                                Welcome newbies. Hello all.

Congrats Lav - Wow you are truly amazing and put hope in the hearts of the rest of us!

Well I have been away. Had one slip up but pretty clean most of the trip.

Back home now on AF3 and the cravings are pretty intense right now and my strength is not great. I will keep working on moment by moment and hopefully wake-up to a AF4.

                                We shall see.

Great job everyone on your AF's. I think I really need to get the book

Must remember how good it will feel to lay my sober head down on the pillow tonight

                                Take care everyone :l
