Yes Mama - I too have joined the unmasking revolution and added the real me as my avatar. Had a job finding one that I wasnt pissed in! I dont seem to be able to smile too well without AL fueling my laugh. But this one I was just naturally happy as I was on the beach in Queensland getting married.
I think we should say AL has cooties....... Spam didnt you ever watch Grease? That was my lesson in cooties...
Sunshine - sounds like your son is really testing your choice not to drink. Good luck with it all. I have a 14 year old and so far still have that tiny bit of hold left with him. But as he is taller than me, I find it very intimidating telling him off. His father is out of the picture - his choice also - and it doesnt make it easy. All the best.
Katie - you are doing well with not smoking. Good onya. It is hard but it will be worth it. Think of how much you will save (didnt realise a packet of fags were $15 now!!OMG).
Nora your kitty is just so cute. I showed my daughter and she wants him/her! Can you stick a stamp on it's head and send it over?
Lav - knew you would come out of this stronger. If the strength and clarity you have is bought on by 12 months sobriety, bring it on I say!
Survived the dinner with my husbands daughter. She even bought me a bunch of flowers for my birthday. My daughter (10 Year old - where did she get her wisdom?) said to me it is about time I started behaving like an adult and got over it. Where have I heard that recently??

Hi Sunshine, that's the exact age my son decided to screw up too. RRRRrrrr, really frustrating so close to graduating. Luckily my son did get his diploma cause he'd always done well in school before that. No Dad to help is really rough and wow, must exhaust you. Same for me at the time, no Dad around. Then I spent years trying to get him off drugs & AL and into re-hab. Around mid-20's he figured it out and got straight. Now we are so close and he thanks me all the time for never giving up on him. I used some pretty tough love too like Mama Bear says but it paid off.
Big Hug to you, take time for yourself away when it gets too much.

Hey all,

Good to see some beautiful faces on here! I can't upload a photo as its a work computer so i dont have the facilities..
My son enjoyed Playgroup this morning.. though the mum's did not seem as friendly this week.. a few just stuck to their own "groups" (they've obviously been going for awhile and know each other well).. i was left on my own a fair bit, but it was nice to see my son happy!
Off to see the flat soon.. i hope its nice..
I'm going to need help to stay away from AL this weekend as thats always my hardest time!!

Gosh, I am so tired today. I cannot wait until bedtime!

Sunni - Just wanted to say that I was the problem child. I rebelled against everything. Smoked, drank AL at school when I was 15 or 16, didn't attend, stole from my mum and dad. (I didn't do drugs and I didn't have sex though.) Can't really say why, I just hated school and my family life.

Once I got out to work, I was so happy. I was very unpopular at school and just wanted to start taking responsibility for myself - which work let me do. I became involved with the Army Reserves - loved that too and over the years have retaken my school exams.

Leaving school was the best thing for me.

Perhaps, I was just trying to keep up and be popular.

Hi everyone
Thanks for the well wishes. No cancer here and not even a small mouse in my tits! All clear. The specialist reckoned it was a fold over of tissue during the mammo, which is quite astonishing as there isn't much of me to fold really.

Sunshine, kids can be a torment. My eldest is a good boy, intelligent etc but got in with the wrong crowd and his social life became more important. He had the capacity to win scholarships but just scraped by. He's had one run in with the police as he got caught trying his first joint in a car with a friend. But he's a good kid. You have to believe they will come round as they mature.

Stressfull day here, I am having to do a sales & marketing report in preparation for a Bank meeting tomorrow, not to bore you all but as with lots of companies all not going well!!- normally I would have done this of an evening with large glasses of wine but determined to get through this one sober!!

SoBS - Glad to hear you are having a crawfish boil. Are they like little lobsters?
We have little lobsters her we catch in the dams and creeks. They call them yabbies in New Sout Wales but in Queensland where I was born They're called crawchies. Other people call them cray-bobs. We catch em in little netted traps and boil em on a camp fire. The we eat em with lemon juice & salt! mmmmmmm

Wow its sometimes difficult to catch up on and keep up with all that goes on here........am into day 3 AF and struggling a bit tonight......thought i'd better get on here and start reading....you guys are all awesome.....well done to all the people AF and hang in there the people who aren't!!!!
just a thought for you sunshine about your son?????
i have a bit of a theory that possibly most of us who drink are a bit obsessive compulsive........and also reasonably easily bored.....at least i tend to be both.....think that maybe to overcome something bad it helps to get excited about something good ......whether it is AF for us or a new career hobby etc....etc....etc......have you recently asked your son whether he could get excited about anything???? or even challenged him to come up with something he'd really like to do...be ...etc.....maybe he'd like to paint or dance but thinks its sissy.....maybe not but do you get my drift?....just a thought.......its all about channelling energy into productive as opposed to destructive things......
